The science language―an overly-neglected field for the extrapolations science-fiction―is put brilliant use in this powerful story. Against a background ultimate peril from a galactic invader, man (in this case, woman) back beyond Babel to recall for humanity the places the soul, where words are not enough.Would the similarity between the gestures of an Arab dancer and those of the dread Galactic invaders help to break the communication barrier before it was too late?

Franklin Patrick Herbert Jr. was an American science fiction author best known for the 1965 novel Dune and its five sequels. Though he became famous for his novels, he also wrote short stories and worked as a newspaper journalist, photographer, book reviewer, ecological consultant, and lecturer.
The Dune saga, set in the distant future, and taking place over millennia, explores complex themes, such as the long-term survival of the human species, human evolution, planetary science and ecology, and the intersection of religion, politics, economics and power in a future where humanity has long since developed interstellar travel and settled many thousands of worlds. Dune is the best-selling science fiction novel of all time, and the entire series is considered to be among the classics of the genre.

Okay so "Story of Your Life" (The short story the movie Arrival is based on) is basically a rip-off, and improvement, of this very outdated short story from the 60's.

One thing that irks me about Frank Herbert is that he tries to be a feminist in the most misogynistic ways. Yes, his lead is female, and smarter than everyone, and saves the day. But, she is such a stereotypical overly emotional and meek woman that it makes you hate her.

A fine story about first meeting an alien race and linguistics. In some ways similar to Ted Chiang: Story of Your Life

I need to read more of Frank Herbert non-Dune.
