(noun) Bloodsucker, murderer, bedpost-notcher, God’s gift to women, fiend.
Seth Gramble is a prince among his people. Half vampire, half jaguar, he is one of a rare few who can shift into an animal form. Both his halves have found their mate in a female detective determined to lump all vampires in with the rogue who killed her former lover. He’s given her six months to see him differently. He’s done waiting.
Paxton Tenor wants nothing to do with a blood-sucking fiend, no matter how much he makes her body sing. Nothing good can come of a vampire. A case she’s working on partners her with Seth, and she’s forced to reconsider her hatred. He doesn’t seem at all like the rogue who sucked the life from her boyfriend in cold blood.
When Seth’s kitty comes out to play, Paxton realizes she’s been stupid to deny herself this man. And when he puts his life on the line to protect hers? All bets are off.
Annmarie McKenna lives with her husband and five kids in the Midwest. Throw in a dog and a cat and she’s well over her limit for the average family. Luckily, writing fantasies has proven to be an excellent way to de-stress from her daily life of being a cleaning woman, chauffeur, cook and mom. Okay, cleaning woman—not so much. She leaves that to her hubby. Now if only she could figure out how to de-stress her kids, she’d be all set.

When Seth’s kitty comes out to play, Paxton realizes she’s been stupid to deny herself this man. And when he puts his life on the line to protect hers? All bets are off. Warning: Let’s be realistic here people; there’s sex. Who doesn’t want to be coerced into bed by a sexy, God’s-gift-to-women vampire? And when they can be undressed and on you before you can blink—hello. Even if said vampire faints at the sight of his own blood…
Someone kidnapped Annmarie McKenna and replaced her with Shelly Laurenston. I don't know what to think after reading this. I think of Annmarie McKenna as I do Lisa Marie Rice in that I know what I'm getting into when I pick up one of her books. I guess congrats are in order to Miz McKenna for changing it up but that doesn't mean I enjoyed it. She was trying to be funny but instead I read this book with what was probably a really weird look on my face. Since I love Shelly Laurenston, some parts of this book made me laugh, but most parts had me cringing in pain and embarrassment. If I wasn't already familiar with this author's work maybe I would be more generous. It's not a bad story, it was just not what I was expecting so maybe that's why I'm being harsh. 2.5 stars
Seth Gramble has finally made up his mind to make a move on the gorgeous yet stubborn Paxton. Paxton who has avoided him ever since the day he was introduced. Payton is also a cop and partnered with his best friend so he runs into her more often than not and it has been a battle just to not snatch her up and run – he’s at the end of the line with her giving him the cold shoulder and he intends to do something about it first chance he gets…
Seth is a vampire and just a little more on top, and there is not anything he can do about that to make Paxton get over her fear of him. Due to no fault of his own but of his kind she is not only uncomfortable around him but full of tension as well and he has just about had it. He has waited long enough and not prepared to wait any longer.
Seth’s chance to rock Paxton off her feet comes sooner than he expected with a new case for him to sink his teeth into. Paxton does not play hard to get but there is more to Seth than meets the eyes and both Seth and Paxton are not players – so some surprises are in store for them both.
Ms. McKenna is one of those authors that no matter how long her books hang around on my TBR pile – I am going to get to it and I am going to love it. She is also one of those authors that is able to cross the genres and very well in my opinion. So I have read shifter, paranormal, m/m , contemporary and ménage as well as just about all the spice you can imagine between the pages of a decent book by her.
TOOTH AND CLAW is a short read – it picks up at the point where both Seth and Paxton are ready to explore a simmering attraction between them that has been building for some time. There is no hanging about on the horizontal activities and it was enjoyable for all myself included.
A little mystery is involved but nothing to sing and shout about as this book was all about breaking down Paxton’s defences and Seth finding that one person that makes him more of a man than he already was.
There are definite pluses to this book including the support cast, they are fun, funny and hard arse as well. There was also an openness between Paxton and her partner Luke that I found refreshing and the dialogue between the two was the highlight of the book.
I can’t recommend Ms. McKenna enough – if you are looking for a series to start with, try her Mates Series
M/M – Court Appointed.
Ménage – Blackmailed.

I honestly loved the premise and idea of the book; but when I got to the last page, all I could think was, "that's it?" It felt like a really abrupt ending and the author could have taken the book so much farther! She had a good plot, humor, and some really great characters!
It was the title that first drew me to this ebook. I was curious. Then when reading the blurb, I didn’t get any further than half vampire/half shifter and I knew I wanted to read it. I’m a sucker for both shifters and vamps. so this story seemed like it would be right up my alley. And Id’ never read Annmarie McKenna, though I’d always wanted to. I let destiny take its course.
And I wasn’t disappointed. Ms. McKenna gave me what I love in a hero: dominant, alpha, protects his mate despite her protestations and the fact she can take care of herself. Seth is all of that and then some. It’s been six months since he found his mate in Paxton, who is a police officer and partner with Seth’s best friend. He’s waited to claim her because she hates vampires. Her lover was killed two years before by a rogue vampire, so she wants nothing to do with the man. But Seth has other ideas and when he sets out to seduce her, Paxton doesn’t stand a chance.
He’s even assigned to work with her and Luke on, of all things, tracking down a panty thief. Being near Seth more than ever wears Paxton down and once Seth claims her, marks her as his, she can’t imagine why she denied herself so long. The man and his lovemaking are phenomenal and now she can’t get enough.
The only thing I didn’t like about this book is that it’s a novella. It’s way too short. Ms. McKenna does a good job of packing a lot into it, including some great humor in the way of teasing between the characters and, of course, some hot love scenes, but when it comes to the shifter side of Seth, I definitely wanted more. We only get one shift and though it’s a good one, more of his jaguar would have been terrific. The length of the book also caused the investigation to wrap up a little too quickly and conveniently, but I forgave that considering what I did get.
I have several of this author’s ebooks and I’m looking forward to reading them after this introduction to her work.
Seth's a vampire who can shift into jaguar form, works with the police to track down miscreants, and faints at the sight of blood. His best friend, Luke, is a cop whose partner, Paxton, is Seth's mate... only she doesn't know it yet. Oh, and it's too bad she hates vampires. When Luke, Seth, and Paxton are sent on the trail of a panty burglar, things heat up and Paxton can no longer deny the attraction she feels for Seth.
This was a nicely balanced story - some silliness, a bit of mystery, and lots and lots of steam! My only complaint? I wanted to read more about these characters. Please bring us more of their stories, Ms. McKenna!
How is it that all the books were so short all of a sudden? hu?
This was a short and sexy story, if not a bit lame with all the panties that were stolen .... but anyway, it was hot I really liked the characters, loved Luck! Can anyone give me him?, it would have been great, thanks <3
I still feel, however, this was perhaps a liiiiiittle too short, I'd like to see more of them, but it was a lot of good anyway ...
I'm almost as confused by this story as it is by itself. I feel like I was dropped into the middle of a brainstorming session that was published into a book. I'm not even sure why I'm giving it two stars instead of one. mess mess mess.
A quick but enjoyable read. Seth is a vampire who has the ability to shape-shift into a Jaguar, who claims his mate while on the hunt for a "panty raider".
I'm giving this three stars because it was humorous, and I enjoyed Seth and his wit. I do think Paxton went from "I hate vampires because one killed my boyfriend" to "Bite me, baby" a bit quickly.
The plot and background were both very interesting and entertaining. I really liked the ideas. The boo was short, sweet, and steamy---my three favorites s's.
