Excellent book on Japan. Liked it because it is not as expensive as the LP book and thus is an excellent starting book...

I read a 1st edition published in 1992 by APA Publishing (HK) ltd. Oddly there does not seem to be an ISBN. Outdated of course, but interesting none the less. As a result of reading this edition, I have two walks I intend to do when I retire. After walking across Kent several years ago, I think walking is the best way to see a country.
The guide puts (and I expect later editions also include this) the history and culture of Japan into perspective.

One of the better travel guides to Japan. I have traveled extensively throughout the country and the Insight Guide was generally pretty helpful. Would recommend to those looking to buy a guide on Japan.

I got 2 travel guides: Insight & Lonely Planet for my trip to Japan. Insight had prettier pictures and had more background on Japanese culture and customs than the latter. Not as many attractions are in this guide but it has more extensive information for the main tourist attractions
