'Sallis's work is fun to read.' - Library Journal 'A beautifully written story' - Bella Morag, Vallery and Jannie were just schoolgirls when they first met the Reid brothers. When the Reid boys returned from the war it was Berry, the vibrant one, who had changed. Crippled in mind and body, he married Vallery although he held the dream of Morag in his mind. Settling to a life in the remote cliff-side Abbey, Morag, Vallery and Jannie discovered that Berry still had the power to draw them all to him.
Susan Sallis was the author of over twenty bestselling novels, many of them set in the West Country. She was born in Gloucestershire and lived in Somerset with her family. She died in 2020.
I wonder how the inspiration for this story began...three schoolgirls, protected, naive (mostly), free from parental constraints; three boy - men, brothers... In any case, I became obsessed and had to use each spare moment to read on. Well done, Susan Sallis. Another hit.
