Perimeter Red
Xaverie is a young woman who is scheduled to attend one of Second Earth's most prestigious schools. She soon becomes an integral part of a group of peers, and they all come to find that the school is more than it seems to be. Every cage has a lock that can be picked, and this group is about to break free. However, freedom has its own consequences, and Xaverie and her friends will find themselves in more trouble than they can imagine.

I did not find a passion in writing (or even reading) until I was beginning college. Fan-fiction fueled my imagination to a point where I decided to try original fiction. After a year or so of perseverance, I was finally able to complete my first novel. With a supporting push from friends, I sent out manuscripts to a handful of publishing companies. As is usual with these tales, I received nothing but rejection letters. In a stubborn attempt to have my own way, I decided to look into self publishing. Luckily, I have a few very selfless and hard working friends who were willing to help out. Overall, it proved to be an arduous, but fulfilling process.
Currently, I have completed two novels since publishing my first (one being the sequel to Perimeter Red). In addition to editing those, I am working on writing another three. Even if my books never make it far in the world, I am happy to have been able to share my stories with those who take a chance on them.

Review of Perimeter Red by M.W. Morrison
Overview.
An excellent and original story. I found it gripping. And I love the cover. But to confuse the issue, this book seems to have been written by Meghan White as well as M.W.Morrison!
Story.
Four young people meet at a school on a planet known as Second Earth. They are not all human, though.
It is forbidden for people from different species to reproduce.
One is human, and the other three from various other species. Each has a special talent, but not all know of it at the beginning.
Second Earth is ruled by an autocratic species called Regen. They enforce the rules strictly, and will eliminate any who don’t obey. Opposing them is an underground operation calling themselves Undercity.
The four friends soon find out that the school is not what it seems, and they are captured by the Regen. They must escape or face death or worse, be forced to work for the Regen.
I don’t want to say much more as it would be spoilers.
Characters.
The characters are well drawn. Each one is an individual with flaws as well as strengths. I found myself liking them, even one who was rather grumpy and prickly.
The relationships between them are realistic. There are arguments and disagreements, and not all get on well together. But they work together as a team.
There is development of the main characters through the book as they discover more about themselves and the talents they have, and learn to control those talents (which are different for each character).
Writing
Sadly, the thing that lets this book down is the writing. Ms Morrison seems to make every error she can.
The grammar is faulty. The use of ‘off of’, which is grammatically incorrect, lay instead of lie, for example.
The punctuation of dialogue is usually wrong.
There are semicolons scattered willy-nilly throughout, often wrongly used.
Repetition of words.
Wrongly used words, and overuse of ‘smirked’ and ‘scoffed’. These are also often wrongly used.
Too many ‘justs’ and other ‘filler words’.
However, in spite of that, I found the story so compelling that I have given it 3*

I wrote this book, so I can't exactly review myself on it. Had to give it 5 stars anyway ^_^ Self publishing is about supporting yourself, right? LOL

I don't know why but this felt nostalgic :)
Maybe because I've been gaming since the 90's.

I really liked the book! When Xaverie is scheduled to attend one of Second Earth's most prestigious schools nothing is as it seems, which she and her friends quickly figure out. What starts as an intriguing adventure lands Xaverie and her gang in a bunch of trouble (stopping here to avoid spoilers).
I think what makes this book special is the author's writing style, which draws the reader into the exciting story. The plot is interesting and mysterious, making it a great read. The characters are rounded and well-developed, as is the world-building. I could have wished for even more of the world-building, but I am a sucker for that part of a book.

I have to say this is my favorite book! It's the kind of book you don't want to put down until you've finished reading it. The characters are great and you will really feel like you know them by the end of the novel. It is also a book that is great to reread numerous times. I hope there's a second one!
