A curse as old as time, a Mafia Don and a wife of convenience.
Emilio Greco needs to return to the Mafia society or watch the empire his father built crumble around him. There is only one problem: He’s cursed to live as a beast, and only love can free him.
But who could love a man with teeth, claws, paws, fur, and horns? His only chance is a marriage of convenience, a woman already tied to him by contract, a bride he never wanted.
Lucia Bianchi finds herself locked away in a New York penthouse with a reclusive husband and his infamous temper. Horrified to learn the truth, Lucia knows her duty to her family means she must stay.
What she doesn’t expect is that instead of being repelled by Emilio’s appearance, she is mesmerized by him. With their growing attraction and budding romance, Lucia must find a way to break down her beastly husband's walls.
With war and chaos breaking out around them and old enemies rearing their heads, Lucia and Emilio’s fledgling love is tested. Can love truly conquer all?
Looking for a Beauty and The Beast retelling book with a Mafia touch in it? look no more. The Made Beast has everything you want in a TBATB retelling and more ;)
And moreover, if you're into Monster romance/ MMC, you should definitely read it! This story provides a perfect mix of everything, a good world/ story building, Monster Romance, TBATB retelling to a good amount of spice 🥵🌶. I love the way the author grips the story so smoothly while keeping the streamy-ness in the story too, generally, the author fails to do that in a monster romance and makes everything about Smut. The above tropes are my favorites, it has everything I love, there are more but the above are the main ones! I give it a 4.5 not 5 cause I was expecting some more groveling here otherwise overall this book was perfect! I love the writing style of the author too. I'm eagerly waiting for the 2nd book of this series which is about our unhinged Greco brother ;), I already love DRIO! The author confirms that it was going to be more Spicer hehe! Check the TW before proceeding to the book.
4.75/5 stars (just because I needed more groveling) This was supposed to be a cute little spicy book to get me out of my reading slump and it turns out that it’s going to be one of my favourite monster romances to date.
I loved the take on the Beauty and the Beast retelling and all the added elements. Lucia and Emilia are amazing protagonists and I loved the dual POV. This was a marriage of convenience romance in a mafia setting and it was the most enjoyable thing I have read in a whule. The angst and tension was there, the spice was stellar and the writing style was gorgeous! I can’t wait for the next one.
This is truly for the girls who preferred the Beast’s form over his human form and I have never self-inserted into a story more. I loved this!!
Read this for: -forces proximity -marriage of convenience -opposites attract -4/5 spice
I liked this okay. But sadly it had a few things that really bother me in some romances.
1) When the MMC is an asshole and yet the MFC falls in love with him. Why? How? I know many of us love an alphahole but they have to be redeeming in some way. I really don’t see how Lucia fell in love with him.
2) When the MMC fucks up and doesn’t do enough redemption before the MFC forgives him. No. For all that Lucia went through the comeuppance was not nearly enough for me in this book.
There were some other things that bothered me but I don’t really care about going into a lot of detail. The characters and story felt copy and paste. The writing was actually pretty good.
first review of 2023 and we are kicking it off with a banger🤌🏼
made beast by charlotte powers is a solid 5/5✨
this book had everything i could ever ask for and more. we got - • mafia romance • forced proximity • enemies to lovers • marriage of convenience • opposites attract AND it’s a beauty and the beast retelling 😭😭 perfection.
Emilio is a mafia don who was cursed by a witch moments before he killed her and her entire family. the only way to break the curse is if someone loves him and he loves them in return. (y’all know the drill). so what does Emilio do? he calls in Lucia’s marriage contract that was set up between the two mafia families several years ago. obviously! and OH. MY. GOD. does it get spicy 🌶️🫶🏼😳 (Lucia? wanna swap lives?)
the drama. the romance. the action. the plot twist. the smut. UGH i just loved it. and that ending?!? i cannot tell you how much i loved that ending. all i’m going to say is that if you were disappointed with the beauty and the beast ending… you will love this book.
imma need book two asap cause i need to be back in this amazing, sexy world that charlotte has created
thank you again @powers.of.the.pen for sending me this book!!🫶🏼i’m gonna keep badgering you now until the second book comes out because you cannot drop that bombshell of a message in my dms and leave me hanging 😭🤣
Longish review; TLDR at the end. SLIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD
A very true beauty and the beast retelling. A lot of the hallmark moments from the classic story are revisited in this book (library scenes, candlelit dinner, maternal figure guiding the MMC, the MMC letting the FMC go “for her own good,” etc.) and it made me nostalgic at times. I will admit, I rolled m eyes at some parts of the beginning that came off as a bit cliche, since I expected this book to be a much more subtle rendition of the BATB story. Once I realized that it was truly a BATB story, I enjoyed it much more.
THINGS I LIKED: I felt that the MMC’s self-disgust was very realistic and true to how I think many of us would react in his situation. I appreciated the slow development of the FMC and MMC relationship—it was appropriately paced and I appreciated how the MMC’s actions aligned with his internal thoughts (i.e. He doesn’t simply think that the FMC deserves more and then turn around and act as though he and her are perfect for one another. He avoids her, he keeps parts of himself hidden, he rages at himself, etc.)
THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE: This book doesn’t really have a magic system in place, and is very much set up as any other mafia romance (warring families, politics, arranged marriages, etc.) set in the modern world. Like our world, the only “magic” that exists is that which is practiced by the superstitious. So when the MMC is subject to a curse brought on by a “strega” and meets a very tangible magical outcome, it should not be taken lightly by every single other character in the story. Realistically, if a person turns into a beast, there would be riots and assasination attempts and certainly no wide-spread acceptance. The MMC goes into hiding to keep the world from seeing his disgrace, so rumors spread that he is the “mafia beast,” and the majority of people don’t even believe that “beast” is literal. It just struck me as a little odd how, after the MMC is seen by many people, they just sort of….accept his monstrous form? Granted, maybe their cultural superstitions and heads-up helped. But come on, youre telling me there wouldn’t be a coup attempt because “who would want to serve the cursed dom?”
Had potential to be better if the author handled certain situations with more nuance and had more realistic supporting characters (realistic in their dialogue, their reactions, and how they handled certain situations).
I was on track to give this book a 4 because I really did enjoy how the love story developed. BUT (and this is a very big but), this book ended with one of my least favorite tropes: near-instant forgiveness. The FMC takes the MMC back after a trivial amount of groveling. Granted, I did really understand his reasonings for his actions, but after the very traumatic event that the FMC went through, he should have had to work more to get her back.
I definitely think its worth the read for anyone interested in dipping their toes in monsterish romances and like the whole mafia thing. Entertaining enough if you aren’t a picky reader like me. I’d definitely say its works as a palette cleanser.
TLDR: worth the read for anyone who wants to dip their toes into monsterish romances. A bit cliche bc its a TRUE beauty and the beast retelling and it lacks some nuance, but the romance is well-paced and interesting to read. Good palette cleanser.
I am adding to this my list to reread immediately. I LOVED this story.
This is exactly what I've been looking for in a book and it has shaken me out of a vicious reading slump.
The writing alone drew me in and eased me through the first few chapters, which is where my interest either gains or wanes. Charlotte is exceptional at drawing you into the story and keeping you on your toes.
There are super spicy scenes (the en suite 🥵🥵) which I loved, as they were all romantic in a way. There is a perfect balance of plot to make this the ideal book for me.
I really enjoyed the mafia aspect as well, having never read a mafia romance before, I am pleasantly intrigued. The plot twist shocked me, I teared up a few times, and the scenes of graphic violence were extremely well done and kept me immersed in the tale. My only complaint is that the story isn't longer.
Made Beast is a Beauty and the Beast mafia retelling and Charlotte’s debut novel! I’m always down for a retelling so I was super excited to read this! I enjoyed the development of the characters throughout the story and the attention to detail from the monsters to the scenery was *chefs kiss* 🤌🏽
Made Beast follows Emilio Greco, Mafia Don, who is cursed to live as a beast and only love can free him. His last hope is a marriage of convenience to Lucia Bianchi. Lucia knows she must stay with Emilio but she doesn’t expect to be mesmerized by him. With war and chaos breaking out around them, their love will be tested. But the question is, “Can love conquer all?” *Check TW as there is some violent and dark content*
dnf 27% Not for me, it's basically all inner monologue. Like 98% and the remaining 2% actual conversations with characters. But even that was at most a sentence here and there. I also didn't care for the formalities of calling each other Mr. Greco, Mrs. Greco, ands most of all Mistress Greco.
Thank you so much to the author for an early copy of Made Beast! This was such an enjoyable, quick read that I didn’t want to set down. Morally grey mafia men meet monsters in this romance and I loved this combo so much!
The descriptions of the monsters, as well as just the rooms, were so vivid and I felt like I was right there with these characters. I was so happy this book was dual POV and it was done so well. These characters were so different, yet had their similarities they didn’t want to admit, and I felt so in tune with their character through Power’s writing.
If you haven’t read a Monster Romance yet, don’t let that deter you from checking out this book. This Beauty and the Beast retelling is a perfect start to get into the genre and has so many great tropes that you won’t want to miss, so I highly recommend checking it out!
Wow, it's been a while since I've read a book in 24 hours, and this one I couldn't put down. While the story isn't particularly original—it's a retelling of the mafia beauty and the beast tale—it's incredibly captivating and beautifully written! I was amazed. The characters have a lot of depth, and the plot has enough twists to keep you hooked for hours. The surprise... I never thought I would be writing this, but the monster smut made me blush several times.🤭 It was perfection.
A delicious blend of two of my favorite romance genres
I really enjoyed this book, even if I wanted to slap a certain broody beast sometimes. I’m a huge fan of monster romance and also enjoy mafia romance, so I was intrigued to read this book and I can happily say it didn’t disappoint. I can’t wait to see what happens with our shadow-loving beast in the next book.
I had the privilege of reading an advance copy of this book and I was totally blown away. If you like retellings this is definitely a book for you. One of the best parts of the book is the character development and also how easy it was to get into the story.definitely worth the read!!
Okay I originally read this to provide feedback around the monster aspect of the book. I loved it. It kept me turning pages and cursing having to work. I’m already dying for book two! So if you love retellings and monsters grab this lovely book!
This was everything I needed in a Beauty and the Beast retelling. I loved everything about it, the main characters, side characters, the story, the romance, the smut!
Made Beast kept me hooked and excited from the start!
Another thing I absolutely loved is the author’s note at the beginning which included the content warnings, more authors should do that.
If you love a book that has mafia romance, marriage of convenience, forced proximity, opposites attract, monster romance and spice then this is definitely the book for you.
Of course I’m going to give this five stars given I wrote it. But this book brings me so much joy and I’m proud of it, so it deserves all the love from me.
"Made Beast" is a Beauty and the Beast retelling set in a modern NY where the Beast is none other than a Mafia boss. Cursed by a witch over a blood feud, Emilio Grecco must find someone to love him in his new beast form if he ever wants to break off his curse. Alongside his brother, who was also turned into a beast, the Grecco Don decides to marry Lucia, a Mafia princess who knows her "role" is to ally with another powerful family to help her own amidst the wicked mafia world. Although Lucia is loyal to her family, she still wishes to forge her own path amidst the dangers and will try her best in her new tricky circumstances. However, when another mafia Don threatens Emilio and Lucia's starting relationship while they're still trying to battle their own and each other's demons, Lucia and Emilio will have to set aside their differences if they ever want to break the curse and leave this brewing war alive.
I love retellings as even though they are known stories, each author gives them a spark of individuality, which is generally fun to explore. I found the book an easy read, and it had a nice pace overall. However, I found the main characters insufferable, and the plot resolution felt extremely rushed. I also hated every time Emilio called Lucia his "little wife." I would've loved Lucia to have had more agency despite her circumstances, as she was a damsel in distress for 90% of the book. As for Emilio, I can only say that despite feeling a bit sorry for him as he was turned into a beast, I found his attitude, internal misogyny, and constant ghosting very repetitive and a hindrance for me to like the main couple.
Made Beast by Charlotte Powers is a dark, but sexy retake of Beauty and the Beast. If you can take the mafia-appropriate violence and misogyny this is a fun read.
This book kept me on my toes for a good chunk of the story. Especially when the FMC is in danger, I had a hard time putting down the book even as I was suffering a migraine! That’s how addicted I was to the action!
If I had a singular complaint, I would have liked a crap ton more groveling. There is some groveling, which is great. The MMC does apologize, but a part of me wanted Lucia to make him work for it a little more. Possibly though it had to do with how young she is (only about 20, going on 21). I am a woman over ten years older than that so that might be my bias there. I cross my fingers for even better groveling in the next book about the MMC’s brother.

Review:
This book was a delight. Different from all the other monster romances I’ve read, here we have a very reluctant hero, one who had lived his life as a human and now, after being cursed, is living in the shadows as a beast. He needs someone to love him, as he is, in order to break it. However, with his brooding, ice and cold behavior, not counting the fact his bride didn’t know he was really a beast, made things difficult.
I loved Lucia. She was a gentle and strong heroine. I felt sorry for her some times because she was frequently confused by her husband’s behavior, but she persevered without losing herself. It was a great debut novel and I will most definitely continue reading this series.
I loved this. The FMC was a good balance of innocence and brattiness without making either her entire personality, which I feel like happens pretty often in romance. If you thought the beast was hotter before the curse was broken, read this. If you didn’t, read it anyways and let Charlotte change your mind.
From someone who didn’t think she liked retellings, this beauty and the beast retelling truly did shock me. It had me gripped from the first page and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This was also my first mafia type book and that really added to the story as well. Can’t wait for the next book to come out.
Needless it is to say that my favourite Disney movie had always been the beauty and the beast and when I saw that this story was its retelling, I dived head first in it and it did not disappoint.
Sincerely, I enjoyed every aspect of this book and can not wait until I read Alessandro’s story !
This was the best retelling of beauty and the beast i have ever read. I loved every second of this book and the characters. The spice was off the charts and well written! If you love a classic retelling, then read this!
4.5 ⭐️ This was solid! It’s been awhile since I’ve picked up a mafia romance, and I’m always a sucker for a beauty and the beast retelling. The smutty scenes were great. I cannot wait for book 2 in the series to be released!
This a beauty and the beast retelling with all the spice and action any adult Disney fan could ask for! I loved that this was a retelling but remixed with a mafia spin. I love me a good mafia romance and this had it all! Emilio is yummy and I'm all for him. I love Lucia and the things she does to get to him! The character development and plot are well developed. I enjoyed all the spice as well! Its a must read. Can't wait for book two! My first book by this author and definitely not my last.
