Catherine Booth (1829-1890), together with her husband, William Booth (1829-1912) founded the Salvation Army in 1865 in East London, England. When Catherine died, William wrote a moving tribute to [She was,] “the mother who nurtured his children, the wife who had stood side-by-side with him in battle and a warrior who never flinched from a battle.” He said his heart was full of gratitude because God had, for a season, lent him such a treasure. He called her his friend, his counselor and adviser. This tribute conveys the love story that was the Booth's marriage.
