Radical Self-Care: Inclusive Tools for Overcoming PTSD, Heartbreak, Conflict, Anger, Discrimination, Addiction, Anxiety, and Other Trapped Emotions

Rate this book
What do conflict, PTSD, addiction, heartbreak, anxiety, and anger have in common? They all persist because of emotions that became trapped in the body from difficult experiences. Building on titles like My Grandmother’s Hands , Complex PTSD , and The Body Keeps the Score , Sage Liskey reimagines how we think about life’s struggles, making healing easier and more accessible for privileged, oppressed, and marginalized communities alike. Scientifically backed techniques to deal with big and small struggles are covered from over seventy books, hundreds of research articles, and the author’s personal experiences. These include mindfulness, emotional releases, visualization, conflict resolution, asserting boundaries, EMDR, inner child work, psychedelics, correcting self-limiting beliefs, dealing with addictions, forming healthy relationships, and creating a more equitable society. Whatever you are experiencing, here are the tools to begin your journey to feeling better and becoming more resilient in life.

I met Sage at a street fair and purchased his book after talking to him for a bit. Good to put the actual author to the book. I have been on a healing journey for decades following the murder of my father when I was nine. In the last 9 years I have been doing a lot of trauma-informed work. I have found that a missing piece of my healing has been moving into the body and not away from it. Before I made this shift the focus had been solely on changing my thoughts/beliefs. I’ve come to learn that focusing solely on my mind/thoughts/beliefs was bypassing a key part of my healing - my body and my emotions.

I am now trauma-informed and have made more progress in the last 9 years than I have in the last 49 years.

Sage’s book is a wealth of trauma-informed subjects that I find necessary for healing. I love the idea of “trapped emotions” being the basis of trauma, especially Complex PTSD. I have found it imperative to reconnect to MY trapped emotions through grieving, especially experiencing crying at a deep not superficial level.

I find that Sage’s book smartly provides many options or tools to help remove impediments placed by toxic shame so that trapped emotions can be released and in so doing free up life force energy that can be used for better purposes than replaying prior life experiences that no longer serve you.

I recommend Sage’s book also for the work he put in putting all this information together. Takes a lot of dedicated and disciplined work to do so and Sage’s heart is reflected in this book.

Congratulations Sage. Well done. I hope your book helps others gain access to tools that free trapped emotions which in turn allows more free flowing energy for a more vital and vibrant life.

Radical Self-Care is an incredible read!! It's packed with research, insights, and practical tools for personal growth, healing, and self-awareness. What’s truly impressive to me is how much valuable content the author fits into one book while maintaining a trauma-informed perspective and an awareness of his positionality in our society.

For personal growth nerds, this book is a goldmine. 🙌🏼
Full of modern research and eye-opening ideas surrounding self-care and nervous system regulation strategies. One of the most impactful takeaways for me was Liskey’s guidance on moving “trapped emotions” through the body, rooted in the idea that much of our suffering comes from unprocessed emotions. His perspective on self-care definitely goes beyond the surface, offering varied n' fresh ways to truly nurture ourselves.

If you’re looking for a book that challenges, informs, and inspires,
I believe Radical Self-Care is a must-read!
