My life is nothing like the movies we make at the studio where I work--especially not when it comes to relationships.
Which means that there will be absolutely NO romance between me and Case, the grumpy exec I've had a crush on from our very first not-so-meet-cute.
We're simply two coworkers scouting the town of Sheet Cake, Texas as a location for filming.
That's it.
Though, to be honest, I'm suspicious of why Case came on this trip at all.
Whatever the reason, there will be no Christmas magic, and definitely NO mistletoe kisses.
But when Case actually starts talking to me--gasp!--and reveals the humor and kindness buried beneath his gruff persona, my little crush explodes into something a lot harder to hide.
Except he's harboring secrets of his own.
And I'm starting to wonder if his cagey behavior is because he's planning to take credit for my (admittedly brilliant) idea to make this town our central filming hub.
He's not that kind of man ... right?
All I wanted for Christmas was a promotion, and now I'm falling for the man who might be trying to steal it.

That’s it. I’ve decided. Emma St. Clair is queen of rom-coms. Novella length. Full length novel. If words are being written by this woman, my eyeballs will be reading them!!

I was laughing. Giggling. SWOONING! This story was fan-stinkin’- tastic and I think I’m in love with Case! He was such a fun onion to unpeel! He had so many layers and I loved that he shed them around Jillian. He was so much more than the gruff persona he gave off and they were stinkin’ adorable together!

Jillian was a hoot! I loved that the story was written from her POV because her inner dialogue made me giggle! And I really enjoyed walking through her “destructive thoughts” and how she ACTUALLY talked to Case instead of just shutting down.

I loved this story! It was the most perfect little Christmas addition to this year’s awesome lineup AND we get to be back in Sheet Cake for a bit!

Seriously, do yourself a favor and read a book by Emma St. Clair. This is a GREAT one to start with!

Embarking on a road trip to Sheet Cake, Texas, Jilly and Case are hoping to scope out the town as a potential movie location. I love when a book can truly make me laugh within the first few chapters. A vehicle breakdown and Jilly completely embarrassing herself in front of her handsome, grumpy coworker did just that.

It was SO NICE to be back in Sheet Cake. I love this fictional small town. There's plenty of Tank cameos too, which made my heart sing. As Jilly and Case explore the town as newbies, the small-town quirks sprinkled humour in at perfectly unexpected moments.

While Case initially appears more glued to his phone than Jilly, he quickly opens up and his sultry whispers made me swoon. And the kisses, of course. When the romance officially ignites, I appreciate that Case immediately squashed any doubts Jilly pondered. Woo! This was a very cute novella!

This was a fun little romcom that succeeded in making fun of romcoms.

Right at the start, our leading lady talks about all her favorite tropes in a Christmas romcom like enemies to lovers, forced proximity, grumpy hero; you know, all the tropes we love. “Except not for me,” Jilly says; then spends the rest of the short book going, “oh crap, I’m in this trope.” “Oh crap, now I’m caught in this trope…” It’s fun and clever.

I especially liked that when Jilly found herself facing the dreaded miscommunication trope, she avoided it and gave voice to all of us when she admits, no one likes the miscommunication trope. Thank you, Ms. St. Clair, you are my hero.

Actually, this was my first Emma St. Clair book, but I have another, Falling for Your Brother's Best Friend, that has been languishing in my Kindle Library. I now have motivation to finally get to that.

Cheers, and Happy Holidays.

Emma St. Clair has done it again! Another fabulous, funny, sweet romcom that made me laugh, swoon, and sigh with contentment. Loved returning to Sheet Cake, Texas with new faces and some old favorites.

This book had all the essential elements of a great romcom packed into a quick read novella:

*Road trip
*Characters with relatable issues
*Long time crush
*Swoony kisses
*Endearing animals including a raging ram named Fabio whose antics made me spit my drink
*Workplace romance
*Grumpy/sunshine
*Small age gap
*Small town
*Fun side characters

Loved Jilly & Case! It was so fun reading solely from Jillian’s perspective. She’s funny, knows all the romantic tropes, and is a bit anxious. I loved watching her misperceptions of Case change right along with us. Case appears to be a stuffy, grumpy film exec. Jilly’s had a crush on for several years. But, underneath that gruff, well-groomed exterior is a funny, sweet, thoughtful guy whom you can’t help but love.

During their short time in Sheet Cake scouting for a film shoot, these two get to know each other extremely well, including Jilly’s love for butter, and Case’s digestive issues. As they get ever closer together, and Case reveals his attraction for Jilly, she can’t help but wonder if this is all real, especially when Case appears to be suspiciously on his phone a lot. Is this an attempt to sabotage her or is her long time crush about to become a real relationship?

This is definitely one romcom you’ll want to pick up! While it’s set during Christmas time, it’s really inconsequential to the story. This book could honestly be read any time of the year. I loved the banter, dancing, romantic kisses, and hilarious situations the characters find themselves in. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

This Christmas novella is perfection. I don’t even know how there is so much laughter and swoon packed into this short story—but I am here for it!
Like Jilly said, Give me all the tropes, I eat that stuff up. 😂 And this sweet read definitely made my heart happy. 👌🏻♥️

Things I Loved:
-Glarepocolypse
-Tina
-Office camouflage
-Scream spiral
-Sharing body heat
-Scrooge McCellPhone
-“Why else do waffles have squares, if not to hold things?”
-Butter
-“It is a little weird slow dancing to this song. Feels like some kind of blasphemy.” “At most, it’s light heresy,” Case says. “But since we aren’t bumping and grinding, it’s probably okay.”
-Fabio
-Neighborly
-Percy
-Bunny preapproval
-Case’s sisters
-The Epilogue
-The Bonus chapter in Case’s POV

If you need a pick me up during the holiday craziness, this quick read is the answer. Do not miss out on another romcom win from Emma St. Clair!

Oh my mistletoe and sleighbells, this Christmas  novella is everything I love about Emma St. Clair’s books!

This
unrequited crush
workplace
road trip but stuck in a small town
grumpy/sunshine romance
with a bit of an age gap

is full of flirty wit, laugh out loud scenes, and oh so swoony kissing.  Emma is the master at making sizzle without the spice and Case and Jillian are perfect together!

It also comes with an animal attack scene and I am pretty sure one of Emma’s books would not feel complete without one.  Oh, Fabio.

The cherry on top is that we get to see Tank from the Sheet Cake series and I love him even more than I did before. Looking forward to his story!

There isn’t a single thing I didn’t love about this book. All the Christmas stars for this one!

I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.

Jilly and Case are on a road trip to scout the town of Sheet Cake, TX for the set of Brightmark Films next romance. While Jilly has had a secret crush on Case for years, he's always been grumpy and uninterested at work. But during their short trip, Jilly begins to see a whole new side of Case. He's teasing her, bringing her breakfast in bed, and even giving her his extra butter at meals! Could his change of character be a trick to steal her ideas and win over their boss, or could Case actually like her?

Oh no, what is happening to me this month? Have I become the holiday romance Scrooge? This is the third book in a week that I have struggled through, so keep that in mind when reading this review. As much as I love Emma St. Clair and Sheet Cake, TX, this novella just wasn't a fit for me. Case is meant to be a grump, but that completely disappeared after about two chapters. I've read enough grumpy/sunshine books now to know that this is a big pet peeve for me- if you say he's a grump, then lean into that or don't go there at all. While he had some moments of flirtatious banter, I struggled to feel the chemistry build between him and Jilly. I know things need to move quickly in a novella, but I wish we had gotten more information about how his attraction to her started or what kind of interactions they'd had at work- something to make both of their crushes more believable. I also could have done without all the discussion of Case's bowels 😬 Jilly was likeable enough, although her inner dialogue got very repetitive. I'm glad others enjoyed this one, but it just wasn't my favorite in this series.

What a super cute book! It's short, but it didn't feel short. I felt like exactly the right amount of time was spent setting up the characters, the situation, and the romance without feeling rushed or incomplete. I rarely feel that way after reading novellas. I absolutely adored Jilly with her verbal vomits of truth and her way of making uncomfortable situations seem less cringey, despite the fact that she often said the exact wrong things at the exact wrong moments. I loved Jilly's crush on the seemingly aloof Case and her refusal to let him be the silent type. Once Case finally opened up? Oh how I loved him! I loved how he would not let Jilly retreat into a shell when she started to freak out about the what ifs of a relationship. I loved that he COMMUNICATES. I loved his crush on Jilly. I loved the nods to Hallmark Christmas romances and Jilly's firm belief that life doesn't roll that way ... until it does. I loved all of this. There's a fun little bonus chapter of Case's feelings when he first met Jilly. Read it. It's delightful. This novella is a quick read, but super satisfying. Five stars! I loved it! I think I'll read more about this charming little town.

(4.5 stars) - briskly breezy fun!

Jillian is one of those people who's really good at her job, but a bit of a mess otherwise. While Case isn't really a grump but does a good imitation of one - he definitely has Jilly convinced!

The story had me laughing from the outset & was consistently entertaining all the way to the end (and the bonus scene of their meet-not-so-cute from Case's perspective was amusingly enlightening)

*Romance level: passionate kisses, nothing graphic

I adored this age-gap, forced proximity, workplace Christmas novella! I haven't read any of the other books in this series (YET!) but that didn't detract from my enjoyment as this definitely worked as a standalone.

I loved the banter and chemistry between the MCs and REALLY enjoyed the IBS and anxiety rep! For a novella this book really packed a satisfying punch and put a giant smile on my face. Releasing this on both audio and print/ebook was such a delightful Christmas present from Indie romance author Emma St. Clair!

This short and sweet holiday novella gripped me from word one and had me smiling the entire time. As a standalone to the author's Graham Brothers/Sheet Cake series, this one can be read as an introduction to the town and some of the characters without you getting lost since the main characters are not a part of that series. This one follows Jilly, a low level exec at the Brightmark television movie studio, on a disastrous car trip with her grumpy older co-worker Case, to scope out the location of Sheet Cake, TX for their upcoming movies. She has been harboring a crush on him for four years, ever since the first time they met when she literally ran into him in the elevator, causing his coffee to spill all over his shirt. He's a bit of a jerk to her, their car dies on the side of the highway, and they're stranded in the cold until a tow truck comes while she is an anxious mess. This is a ripped from the headlines plotline given my recent ordeal, so immediately I related to this story on a very personal level. Once they are towed to town, which is in Schitt's Creek style owned by a former football player named Tank, Case's personality drastically changes, and Jilly wonders if it's possible that maybe Case may have feelings for her as well. I loved the quick wit and banter between both characters, and the self awareness of Jilly, who works in romance tropes for a living, to acknowledge all tropes coming to play in their real life relationship and why those don't work in real life. Just say nope to tropes 😂 In this one you have office romance, age gap (minor), grumpy/sunshine though not obnoxiously sunny, and even miscommunication, but since this is a tongue in cheek rom-com, Jilly acknowledges they are miscommunicating and her and Case immediately have a conversation to get on the same page. What the what? Absolutely refreshing. Wrapped up in a neat little holiday bow, this was a quick, cute read that left me wanting not only more from Jilly and Case, but from the author, who's quick paced and hilarious writing style I really enjoyed. I can't wait to back read the rest of this series and get better acquainted with Tank and his boys and the rest of Sheet Cake, TX.

💕 Thank you so much to the author for a copy of A Holly Jilly Christmas to review!

When Emma calls her people Sheeters, you're going to know a couple of things: her sense of humor is wild and on point for the genre. I love so much that she had holiday romance release FOMO and whipped this out of her back pocket. Is it so weird that it's my favorite story in this setting? It is the ultimate standalone as it gives next to no spoilers while there are lovely little Easter eggs sprinkled throughout for The Buy-In and The Bluff.
Jilly wants to make a big suggestion to move her film network headquarters to the town of Sheet Cake. It's up-and-coming and appeals for multiple reasons. She simply needs to iron out some details and take a quick trip that all is as it should be before she makes the official recommendation. Her scouting trip is not supposed to include the office grump and why does he want to join her anyway?
Emma builds enough back story and swoony moments between Case and Jilly to make their short paged romance believable. Add in some funny antics and I couldn't help but love it. This is definitely an easy one to recommend for a short wintery romance.
Thank you to the author for the advanced copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

A Holly Jilly Christmas is a delightful, quick story that was oh so adorable. With wonderful chemistry, hilarious situations and characters that were so much more then meets the eyes, I was so charmed with this novella. And I loved being back in the world of Sheet Cake again!

Whilst visiting the small town of Sheet Cake to scout a location for their movie studio, Jilly and her unrequited crush and grumpy co-worker, Case end up being stuck in the quirky small town. Sparks fly and revelations come to light between the two in this fun little tale.

I love how Emma St. Clair always weaves humour, family, and romance into a story. Even in a short story like this one, she manages to add those elements. She has undoubtedly become one of my most favorite contemporary romance authors. This really was a fun way to spend an hour out of the day, curled up on the couch with a blanket, and enjoy an adorable, funny, heartwarming short story!

This was such a fun and sweet novella! Emma St Clair books always have LOL moments that almost are too good to be real but some people are just lucky in the all the fun memories they get to tell others. 😂
🎄
I loved being back in Sheet Cake (think crazy small town like Schitt’s Creek) and a broken down car. Jilly is a happy go lucky, mostly clumsy and sweet woman - determined to get a promotion! But a last minute change of plans means a higher up stiff is coming with her. She doesn’t trust his motives and he’s pretty grumpy and not impressed by her.
🎄
This has multiple tropes thrown in, it’s a quick novella that has all the feels. I just want more of their story and more Sheet Cake!
🎄
This novella released today! The cover is 😍😍 and thank you to the author for the advanced copy. These are my own thoughts and opinions.

If you’re looking for a short, speedy, swoony, & sweet Christmas romcom, LOOK NO FURTHER!! You NEED to pick up Emma St. Clair’s recent release, “A Holly Jilly Christmas”🥳

I’m a firm believer that Emma can do no wrong. I don’t say that to add MOUNDS of pressure on her shoulders (much love for you Kiki❤️) but I say it out of pure admiration for her ability to write absolutely HILARIOUS romcoms while keeping the romance SWOONY without any spice✨

I absolutely adored this little Christmas romcom (if you couldn’t already tell). Case was such a fantastic book boyfriend😍 His character had so much depth (which is difficult to create in the short span of a novella) and his quirks were absolute PERFECTION! Not to be TMI, but as someone who also struggles with GI issues, I LOVED seeing the representation in this story🥹❤️ But what endeared me most to his character was how much he valued open and transparent communication😭❤️ His patience with Jilly made my heart absolutely BURST with feels🥰 Jilly was also a super fun character to read about and her verbal sparring with Case made for an excellent time🤣

My favorite parts…
🤣 Leggings hat
🤪 The sniff
🥹 Butter
😭 Case guarding the bathroom
🥵 The dance
🐏 Fabio
🩲 The boxers
😂 Age discrimination
❤️”Ask me the questions”
🐰 Percy

If I haven’t already convinced you to read this romcom…. do it for Fabio (the troublesome ram). You need him in your life. Just trust me🤣

I have been chomping at the bit to get my hands on this book and when it dropped in my inbox I was on cloud 9. Emma St. Clair books never disappoint and I need y’all to had this to your holiday TBR’s. It is a GEM.

I adored Jillian and Case. It was the perfect forced proximity set-up. A car break-down, small town shenanigans that lead to more? Give it all to me. ALL. This is beyond filled with the best flirtatious banter that had me grinning like a fool and swooning to a puddle. I LOVED IT. Everything was perfectly timed and I can not even with a guy falls first scenario.

There’s a small dose of the holiday season that slides in well between the romance. I loved seeing a few characters from Sheet Cake (and wow, every time I read a book in this series do I want to go make sheet cake ASAP).

This is simple, light, and full of all the feel goodness you want this time of year. I loved every dang page.

Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Holiday Romance Novella
- Language: none
- Romance: kisses
- Violence: low
- Trigger/Content Warnings: mentions of loss of parents

So it might not seem like the quote to use for a rom-com review, but I thought it was perfect. I’m not a butter girl and my husband is an every square kind of guy.

This story is perfectly inline with this author and her incredible talent of throwing in the most random completely hilarious situation at the same time we are swooning. Case in point. See what I did there? We sure do see you Case.

It’s short and sweet. And the perfect way to treat yourself this holiday season about a town we already love. So get reading quick before Fabio, the ram, gives you a shove.

What a cute little Christmas novella. Even though it appears as part of a series, it works as a stand-alone, just with some familiar faces from the Sheet Cake sweet romance series. I didn’t get a whole lot of “com” in the rom-com but the “rom” was definitely there! Plus Emma St Clair writes some of the best banter!

This story was so sweet… and hilarious! Jilly and Case were seriously a hoot!

There is plenty of secondhand embarrassment, Jilly’s cluelessness about car mechanics, along with her knack from rambling nonsense when she’s nervous. How I laughed!

This story was a prime example of miscommunication that was handled WELL by two adults who simply communicated their concerns. We need more of this!

I love seeing Case with his older sisters, even more so with the “When Case Met Jilly” bonus scene! 😂

And the IBS representation? I was incredibly impressed by this, especially because I’ve never seen it done for a male lead!

All in all, a fun Christmassy story!

This was an adorable Christmas romance! Emma St. Clair’s rom coms are always amazing, and this one did not disappoint.
I loved Jilly so much! She was so relatable, and I loved her slight awkwardness that made for some hilarious rom com moments. But her anxiety was another relatable and interesting layer of her character. She thought the worst and spiraled, and I thought Emma St. Clair did an amazing job of writing her, where you could really feel her panic. And I loved how Case calmed her down.
Case was such a sweetheart! Poor guy, he was totally terrible at telling Jilly how he felt about her, but once he did, it was oh so cute! I love the grumpy sunshine trope, and I feel like he balanced Jilly really well. And can I just say it is adorable when they have special nicknames for each other :).
This romcom is set in Sheet Cake, so we get to see some familiar faces. Sheet Cake is definitely strange, and Case and Jilly run into some hilarious situations. I laughed out loud with this one, and while it is a little awkward, the moments don’t last long.
This is a quick fun novella! Be ready for an amazing ending and swoon worthy kisses:) This is a closed door read with some innuendos that I would recommend to any romcom lover!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

So fun

Quick and SUPER cute, this has everything you could ask for in a holiday novella. It packs a punch in a small package, diving right into a road trip between co-workers. There's a great grumpy/sunshine dynamic, and a hero whose thoughts are fun to puzzle out. It's just Christmasy enough to feel like a holiday romance, but the focus is absolutely on the couple. It doesn't delve too deep and is sure to leave you smiling, so I'd call this one a win all around.

The story follows Jillian, a woman who is scouting out locations for Hallmark-style movies on behalf of her employer. When her broody, scowly co-worker, Case, joins the trip at the last minute, Jillian isn't sure what to think. They haven't exactly been friendly at work, but Case seems to be a little grumpy and buttoned-up with everyone. But as things start to go awry, Jillian soon sees another side to Case... and she likes what she sees.

It's novella-length, just over 100 pages, and told exclusively from Jillian's point of view. I haven't read anything from this series (yet), but I had no trouble jumping right in and enjoying the vibe. It's exceedingly low angst and lots of fun, with some smokin' kisses but nothing any further - essentially a Hallmark movie in book form. I loved that it packed so much into a small page count, with never a dull moment between these two. They had tons of chemistry and there was a great playful feel, which leads me to believe that I would've enjoyed a full-length book just as much. But I was craving something short, sweet, and seasonal, and this satisfied that craving in a major way.

* Proximidad forzada.⁣
* Compañeros de trabajo. ⁣
* Pueblo pequeño.⁣
* Ella está preparada para enfrentar las peores circunstancias.⁣
* Historia bonita, ideal para estas fechas.⁣
* Él misterioso.⁣
* Respeto y comunicación.⁣

Gracias, Emma por el ejemplar y por el POV de Case 😍⁣

A Holly Jilly Christmas
@kikimojo
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I know the holidays are technically over, but this short read takes you on a Christmas trip to Sheet Cake, Texas is just want you need to pro-long those holiday vibes, even if it’s only for a few hours.

I listened to both the audiobook and read along on my kindle ebook, a first for me, but I loved it! This short novella takes you on a side excursion to visit Tank in Sheet Cake with two video co-workers looking to use the town as their next backdrop for movies.

But this sudo-grumpy / sunshine vibe is quickly turning the tides on who’s the actual grump. Let’s just say a lot can be overcome with Mari’s Tex-Mex cuisine. #iykyk

Short. Cute. And if you love the Graham brothers in The Buy-In and The Bluff, you don’t want this sneak peek into more of Tank Graham.
