Dark Desires is the story of Amber Green, a registered nurse who loses her job and ends up in jail after a night of heavy drinking. She calls her friend Grace to bail her out, but it's Grace's brother Emmet who ends up showing up. Emmet ends up offering her a job at a gym which she finds a little shady since people are showing up with gun wounds, lol. Emmett Harrington is a businessman who is trying to get away from his mafia past, but whose family keeps dragging him back in. The last thing he needs is a complication like Amber, but the attraction ends up being too much to let him stay away.
Let me say up front that I'm a huge fan of Vi Carter's Young Irish Rebels series, but I just did not enjoy this one as much. The overall storyline was interesting, but I felt like I was missing things (especially in the beginning) and the fact that there were so many time jumps did not help. Also, while the smexy times between Amber and Emmett were really hot, I didn't feel the chemistry between them and it felt like they went from being uninvolved to heavily involved very quickly. I'll definitely keep reading Vi Carter, but his one just wasn't for me.

I was given an advance readers copy of this book and have decided to write a voluntary honest review. I am rating this book 4.5 stars. This is my very read by Vi Carter and I really enjoyed all the action and drama. Emmet is definitely not your average mafia boss, I expected him to be darker to be honest. But he was still amazing. Amber has so many issues she's kind of a mess. Her meeting Emmet helped and didn't lol. I also love Nathan Jp and Eli. I never Matthew at all. He just rubbed me the wrong way.

Amber is in a difficult situation and calls her best friend Grace, but Grace can't help her and sends her brother Emmett. This is the beginning of an interesting relationship. Emmett offers her a job, and the rest is chaos and anarchy.
Emmett is a interesting man, he seems to unique characteristics, and he has focused his attention on Amber. This couple embarks on a crazy path, with bizarre and vengeful events.
This story was very well written and I liked it a lot.

Another deliciously dark & dangerous story from Vi...
Wow, had a tension headache after reading this detailed story that had me on edge from early on. The heroine is charmed & disarmed by the dangerous brother of her best friend. He was sent to bail her out of jail & then offers her a job. He proceeds to protect her then claim her as his own. She's not exactly a push over but he's controlling. They can't keep their hands off each other, they are combustable but when they touch foreheads is when I come undone. The hero's father is evil aka Devil & his son is no saint as he plans to kill his father but Devil has already kidnapped his woman as leverage. No more spoilers, you have to read this brilliant story from the talented Vi. I received an arc & this is my honest & voluntary review.

When trouble finds Amber its not her best friends brother she expects to get help from, even is he does keep her locked up, it doesn't stop the desire building and over spilling between them! well written the story captivates you from the start as the characters draw you in with intrigue and more!

If you're looking for a dark mafia romance with blood and turmoil, you will probably like this book. **Beware that there are some possible triggers, though.**
If you're looking for a sexy mafia romance with steam filling the pages, this isn't the book you're looking for.
This is a book where the plot thickens, where the danger builds, where the characters grow to trust and love each other rather than it being insta-love and lust. I can appreciate that when I'm not in a smexy-times-from-cover-to-cover kind of mood.
I loved Emmett's protective side when it came to both his men and Amber. I enjoyed Amber's sass and how much Emmett smiled at it. Seeing Emmett's softer side come out with Amber was quite heartwarming. Amber's stubbornness, however, got her into more trouble than the fact she was with a man like Emmett in the first place.
Some of the writing was a bit cheesy and drawn out. I could have used a bit more explanation and an epilogue at the end to wrap it up nicely instead of it feeling a little rushed. I never fully understood why Emmett kept Matthew around when he knew all of the ways he was stabbing him in the back. Or how he could keep Nathan's loyalty if he ever knew Emmett knew the truth. There were also a few inconsistencies. Overall, though, this was still an enjoyable read, and I do recommend it for fans of the genre and the author.

Amber and Emmett *swoon* these two have this chemistry and building sexual tension that will have you on the edge of your seat. This is that slow burn that has you freaking panting and when their sexy time goes down it is explosive… **Elevator scene*** holy hot AF!!! While these two have the most amazing chemistry they could not be more different. Amber is a bit of a train wreck at the moment and Emmett is dark, dangerous and delicious and Amber gets dragged into Emmett’s mess but Emmett would do anything to protect Amber. This book was non-stop action from the very first page and you will not be able to put it down until you have finished. Be prepared for one wild and crazy ride full of twists and turns.

This is my first book by Vi Carter and I can admit that Emmett and Amber made me fall in love with them!
The book was emotionl and full of heartbreaking moments that make me to cry.
Amber is walking trouble ,who one circumstances lead her best friend brother to comes to her rescue.
Emmett Harrington this cold man,who stole my heart is captived by her immediately after they first meeting,and something strong was pulling him toward her.
Both Emmett and Amber have tear jercked story's that will make everyone to understand them why the life build them like this and I will say that the book needs to be readed because is amazing and I'm sure everyone will enjoy every moment of her!

“…Life tried to break me, but failed”
This was a great love story between Amber and Emmett. It was action packed and full of charm.

Amber is trying to forget and numb her pain. Unfortunately, this lands her in jail and with no one else to call, she phones her best friend, knowing she's busy. Best friend, Grace, calls big brother Emmett for help. When Emmett and Amber meet for the first time at the police station, no one expected the cold, stubborn, intriguing man to show up. Being a man of few words, it was safe to assume, he wasn't expecting Amber with the unforgettable green color eyes. Their encounter is short and anything but sweet. But fate has other plans. When Amber is literally thrown out of her apartment, she lands at the next hotel which happens to be the one Emmett owns. When he offers her a job, it's a no brainer.
Slowly, Amber is making the connection that nothing is what it seems, and Emmett and his friends are into some dark "things". When Amber needs answers, she's thrusted into their hideout until things "blow over."
Thrown into a world she knows nothing about, Amber finally feels alive for the first time in a while and there's something about Emmett she can't get enough of. Secrets are made, truths are overlooked, and people are conniving and untrustworthy, who is Amber to believe? The gangster man she has given her heart too or the world she sees in black and white.

I enjoyed this story a lot. I wanted so much more in the end and was disappointed that, that was where the author decided to end it. It was also a slow burn insta-love. The characters were great but didn't really interact with each other a whole lot and then were madly in love with each other. That being said, I still loved this book and am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Amber finds herself in trouble and seeks help with her best friends brother. He vows to keep her safe although he has a secret agenda himself. The tension and attraction between these two rises and they fall hard for each other. A dark mafia read with everything that you need. Angst, danger, twists and turns, secrets ,steam and romance with a sweet HEA at the end 😍😍😍.

From the beginning of this book, things occurred that made little to no logical sense. It made it difficult for me to relate to the FMC. She’s homeless, broke, and doesn’t have a job, but throws food she just purchased away and spends emergency money to stay in a hotel instead of crashing in her car AT LEAST for one night. That just doesn’t make sense.
Moving from that, I still had hope that the romance would be good. It’s barely there. It forms so quickly and doesn’t have a real reason besides attraction. Both characters have their own things they are dealing with and don’t spend a ton of time with each other to form a bond that is believable. They don’t know anything about each other yet here they are, impossible to keep apart.
Also Amber is constantly doing things she knows she shouldn’t do. She acknowledges it and does it anyway. Every time she’s in trouble it’s her own fault and it’s hard to feel bad for a damsel that puts herself in the bad situation.

Emmet and Amber's story stole my heart slowly.
At first i was confuse. I feel like i missed something in the story and wonder İF this book isn't complete standalone. For nothing been said about what makes Amber such a drunk trouble mess and what happened with Emmet and his father.
Then i realised, the author is walking me through the story and not just telling me what happened. The author let her charachters tell me their stories, not just the author telling me what's been going on. And i love that.
İt makes me be in Amber shoes. İt makes me see Emmet and love him slowly yet undeniably.
The darkness may not be gory bloody detail. İts in the pain from Amber loss. İts in the evil of Emmet's father, and the world he walked away from. İts from their fight to live.
The smegsi scenes are slow butn. But when they finally happened... Let's just say that scene in the elevator when Emmet eat her while she was sitting on the ledge, on one of the corner inside the elevator.... İ still wonder about the mechanisme of it while fanning my self. Too hot!
This book and the darkness of the world is a suprisingly great frst read for me from the author.

Wow...Vi Carter is one of my favorite writers. She knows now to give us broken characters that we slowly get to know. And then see their issues that the pair grow together and repair their hurts with one another. I highly recommend.

Amber Green is about to get a fresh start in life after leaving jail and she is needing a favor. So she asked her best friend Grace for help which she asks her brother Emmett Harrington to help her. Since Amber is his sisters best friend he knows her and will help her. But, as they are getting to know one another Emmett doesn't allow Amber to wallow into her fears and pushes her to face them. And they both have their own fears of what had happened in their pasts. Though Emmett knew her as his little sisters best friend, they both changed as life goes on. Since Amber is his sisters best friend he knows her and will help her. But, as they are getting to know one another Emmett doesn't allow Amber to wallow into her fears and pushes her to face them. And they both have their own fears of what had happened in their pasts. Though Emmett knew her as his little sisters best friend, they both changed as life goes on. This is completely personal preference but I like a man of power. Someone who is untouchable and who people fear. That was not the case with this book so it was a complete turn off. Is it more realistic? Sure, but I don’t want it. The hero was stepped on by everyone around him when he’s supposed to be strong and scary. He was scared more times than he was not. He was protective but I’d hardly call him a protector.
There are details missing throughout the book and I feel like the hero never shared who is and what he’s gone through with the heroine meanwhile she shared details about her life with him.
The ending was weird to say the least. Yes it’s a HEA but there was some details missing that I can’t say without spoilers. And there was no epilogue, which seemed necessary considering the heroine’s past. I would have liked to get some semblance of their future not just a “cool, we’re together and happy in this moment so the we’re gonna stop here, the end”.

Dark Desires is an apt title for this book, it's definitely dark and oh so delicious! When
Amber finds herself in a mess she calls on her friend Grace for help. Instead of her friend Grace coming to help, she sends her brother Emmett Harrington to Amber's rescue. That probably wasn't the best idea because poor Amber gets into an even bigger mess that she started out in. Emmett's world is definitely different from Amber's. Emmett's life is dark, twisted, dangerous and full of mayhem especially after recently activities. Amber's is quiet and nothing like Emmett's. And don't even get me started on that d*m^ Matthew. This book had me turned inside out from beginning to end. What a great story!

Amber and Emmett’s story was dark, haunting and emotional. Emmett has demons on top of demons and has the emotional baggage to prove it. Amber is his sisters best friend and has no idea how over her head she is taking a job with him. Emmett sees Amber and knows she is different then what he is used to and wants her part of his life. But does she really fit in? Amber doesn’t know who to trust, and with good reason. This was a back and forth dark read with a lot going on. Both Amber and Emmett had amazing depth and intense stories. I love how this author tells a dark story and keeps you coming back for more. I’m already looking forward to seeing what Vi comes up with next.

I have never read a book by Vi Carter that I didn’t love but this is my favourite. I’ve been picking it up to read more at every opportunity. I love Amber she is one of life’s survivors no matter what it throws at her until it finally throws Emmett at her, her best friends brother. He’s cold, distant yet intense and a bit scary… but I want one. The story that unfolds is full of twists, not knowing who can be trusted and WTF is going on moments. If I could give this double the stars I would

While this is not my first book by Vi Carter, I found to be confused at the beginning of who was the character talking. As I got deeper into the story, I could understand it a little better.
Emmett and Amber both have darkness surrounding them, wanting to drag them further into their sorrows. Emmett’s business and anger keeps him closed up as does Amber heartaches. Will these two be able to survive or will they each help the other. Interesting!

Dark Desires was moving and emotional and full of surprises. I felt my heart bleeding when emotions overwhelmed Amber. Who would think that Emmett had empathy and a heart. I really enjoyed this book and didn't want it to end.

This a story of dark passion and dark pasts that Amber tries to forget her loss by drinking when she gets arrested again for drunk driving she's broke and doesn't want to use her emergency credit card to bail out.They take her back to the cell when an inmate starts getting in her face.She tells the guard she wants her phone call an calls her best friend to bail her out but she's out of town with her fiancee so she says she will get her brother to bail her out.a tall muscle bound guy with dark hair looks good she wishes she could see his face but then a deep sexy voice says I'm here to post bail for Amber. After as they head outside she says I'm not sure how soon but I will pay you back.He says don't worry about it.Do you need a ride an she says yes thank you but when he opened the door to a Bentley she says I can call a rabbit he says get in.The window between the driver an them comes down an he asks where to Emmett he asks Amber.She gives him the address an is embarrassed by the run down apartment building.will they meet again?Will she end up falling for Emmett?Will he fall for her?there are so many twists to this story you will be riveted until the very last page.I can hardly wait to see what's next by this multi talented author.

Amber is a registered nurse but she loses her job goes out drinking and ends up in jail. She calls her best friend Grace to come and Bail her out but it isn’t Grace who turned up it is her older brother Emmett. He’s quite cold with her but she is Glad to just to be out of jail. When she gets home she finds out she has been evicted so she is now homeless talk about having the worst luck ever. So she goes to a hotel and gets a room only to find its Emmett hotel. He offered her a job to be his nurse which she takes. And this is where Amber has her eyes well opened.
Emmett is a force of nature he comes across as cold but that’s because he is the mafia. And he has to be hard let his men know where they stand. It is also super protective of them as well. But when he’s men come under attack and Amber Sees his world things change.
I really enjoyed the storyline in this book but I did find I lost interest now and again. There is so much action and drama in his book. And I did enjoy the interactions with Amber and Emmett, you’ve just Gotta love how sassy she can be at times and how she goes about things. It is a good book I enjoyed it.

Amber ends up in jail after a night of binge drinking and her bff’s brother, Emmett bails her out. Amber is a registered nurse and down on her luck. She’s just been evicted and needs a job. She runs into Emmett again at the hotel he owns after she checks in. He offers her a shady nursing job. Emmett runs a mafia-like organization & Amber doesn’t like what she’s gotten herself into. So she runs & gets caught each time. It became repetitive and annoying.
This started out pretty good and it had my full attention, until it didn’t. There was so much going on with the story and side characters that the romance between Amber and Emmett sat on the back-burner until about sixty percent into the book. I was not interested at all in the romance and the chemistry just wasn’t there. I was more invested in the mystery and dark aspects to this story. I wanted to know more about Emmett’s back story and his crew.
This started out pretty good and it had my full attention, until it didn’t.
