And while the Farun bicker and squabble, they only grow in numbers. And following the disaster that was the taking of Tamin East, the queens of the Princedoms may be about to send something more substantial to ensure victory.Daina, being invested with ever greater control and faith by the ravens, is now a leader among the fractious dawners. That means a hundred meetings where a hundred strikes against the southern enemy should have been. It means soothing tempers and stroking egos when she should be studying. It means the daily risk of exposing her That her veins are torn, that without the regular attention of the salamanders she might have burned out completely. And the war for the Farun's future is about to grow even bigger.

I love this series. I opened this book up and then proceeded to binge it in single day. It does what it does really well, which is largely make the characters suffer for my enjoyment. If you’ve already read the previous books, you’ll enjoy this one. If you’re not familiar with the series (for some reason Goodreads isn’t showing this as part of a series at all) go read The Spark. There’s queer and ND rep, which I appreciate. The world building is fantastic and I wanna steal so much of the lore to run an RPG with. I think one of the real strengths of the series is getting across the cost of revolution, both personal and for the whole clan/country. Knowledge, wealth, and lives are irrevocably lost and you can only hope that the outcome is worth the price.

I’m really looking forward toward whatever KMB writes next (how she writes Fox, as well as a few other spoilery things that I won’t mention, makes me wanna see a more horror focused story from her, but that might just be the mood I’m in.)

There’s a few spelling and grammar errors, but I got my copy pretty soon after it came out (yes this was sitting on my kindle for three months, but I got a lot on my shelf and I was saving this for the right occasion lol) and I wouldn’t be surprised if those weren’t corrected by now.

Bottom line. Go read this.
