Nine heirs. One fight to the death. There can only be one queen. "Lovers of the dark, twisted, and magical won't be disappointed!"
Princess Qadira is only thirteen years old when the Allaedam is called to determine the ascendancy to the throne. Forced into a battle for her life and soul with her 8 siblings, she's desperate to find a way out without killing anyone but she's always been a klutz. When she accidentally causes the death of one of her siblings, all sights are turned on her as the most dangerous threat.
With all the heirs coming at her full force, she makes an unexpected ally—a disembodied voice that whispers terrible things and promises her survival and eventual queenship if she releases him from his prison. With death whispering in her ear and tragedies manifesting in everything she touches, Qadira is in a far more serious the one for her soul.
Will she become a monster to be a queen or let herself be killed a princess?
**** The Fires of Qaf historical djinn series consists of standalone epic fantasy romance novels that all tie together in a larger world of magic and djinn fire. They often involve historical medieval Turkey and the thoroughly-researched djinn mythology and folklore from across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
Kyro Dean is a co-author for the Fires of Qaf, a fantasy romance series, as well as some alt-history and steampunk fare that can be found on Kindle Vella. She also owns and writes and edits for Vanilla Grass, a writing resource blog. She loves speaking and presenting and escaping into other worlds.
When not contriving medieval trists between properly tortured characters, she is playing with her delightfully curious children and talking with her plants, who sometimes give terrible advice.
Lots of people. Nine heirs vying for the throne. When the story begins two of the nine heirs have died mysteriously. Of the seven remaining heirs, the oldest in their twenties and the youngest just five, it seems pretty straightforward that the eldest should take the throne. There is also a pair of fraternal twins. They are thirteen years old. There is a curveball in the story when the mother dies and suddenly there’s a mad scramble for the throne. Qadira is a djinn princess and is thrown reluctantly into the melee for the throne. Qadira fights but doesn’t want to kill her siblings especially her twin brother or five year old sister. There’s a lot to take in. By Chapter Seven I was taking notes and trying to keep up with all the political intrigue, murders, magic, and double dealing. This is an ambitious effort. Lots to enjoy. Lots to get lost in. Again, enjoyable read. Reminded me of the movie, Highlander. There can only be one.
Woe is to be the descendent of the Ahamaran throne! Glister chronicles an all-too-real world of djinn where intrigue, hunger, and familial bonds pit the heart against desire. Qadira may be known as a villain to many, however her tale leaves me asking if I would've done anything different. Perhaps we all our a little villainous inside, and perhaps that's how we survive. Dive into this adventure yourself and find out if you would turn down the power.
