What happens when a Havili researcher meets a psychic dreamwalker? A dreamy meet-cute, that’s what. (In more ways than one.)

AJ Sherwood believes in happily ever afters, magic, dragons, good men, and dark chocolate. She often dreams at night of delectable men doing sexy things with each other. In between writing multiple books (often at the same time) she pets her cats, plays with her dogs, and attempts insane things like aerial yoga.
She currently resides in Tennessee with aforementioned cats, dogs, and her editor/best friend/sister/partner in crime.
This one was very cute, despite there being missing children in it. It helped that the missing kids were found alive and not harmed. What made this one cute was both Alan and Grant and their reaction to Alan having the potential of being an anchor to Grant. It started with Alan chatting with Jon and Donavon and Jon letting Alan know he had the potential to be an anchor and that he thought he would be a great match with Grant. Later on Donavon had a chat with Grant talking about Alan and how if he wanted any type of relationship with Alan, he would need to make the first move. From there all it took was one phone call to start Alan and Grant really talking, about what it would be for Alan to be an anchor and if a romantic relationship would be in the cards for them. The little trial run they did was cute and made them both realize that this could work and the attraction was there. It was fun to see how when asked how long they Alan had been an anchor or they were a couple, they had to measure it in hours. Everyone was so surprised and so happy for them both. I hope we get more stories with them.
Ok so I loved Alan and Grant together. I just wanted this book to be so much longer. This series just makes me happy. I love all the characters so much. Grant is such a good guy. I felt for him and the fact the he really hasn't gotten a good night's sleep since his abilities developed. Of course, Jon sees the potential of Alan and Grant and does his usual "subtle" manipulations. I loved that Alan wasn't sure he could be the kind of anchor Grant needed, but he was willing to give it try. There was never any doubt that he could be the kind of man and anchor that Grant needed, and Grant gives Alan someone to care for as well. I loved these two and just plain wanted more.
I always love going back to the Jon universe! This time it's another Havili, Alan who is Don & Brandon's cousin. He is a true crime writer and professor and interviews Jon, then Grant. I loved Grant's psychic talent, he was a dream walker. He uses his dreams to find people and we see him do that a few times here.
Grant and Alan have an immediate connection, then with some help from Jon and Donovan, they move to become more. All of the psychics in this series, truly have the same trait of feeling like they are a bother to those around them. I just want to hug them all and give everyone the perfect anchor; we need more Havilis.
I hope we see more of these two in other books. We do see Grant in Tree Troubles so I hope he pops up more. This book is set a couple after that one.
This stand-alone book is a spinoff of Jon’s Mysteries and Mack’s Marvelous Manifestations series. It features Alan Havili whose cousins were main characters in those series. Alan’s love interest is dream walker Grant, a psychic who is a very successful tracker. I really enjoy the world the author has created. It was great to get cameos of Jon and Donovan. Although it is not part of the series, I recommend reading at least a couple of the Jon’s Mysteries books before reading this. It will give you an introduction to the world. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet, mm paranormal romance.
This novella is a spin off from the Jon’s Mysteries world. A unique, magical fantasy world with psychics and the anchors that keep them sane and protected. I LOVED the complex world almost more than the romance, but Grant and Alan were utterly adorable. 🙃
This one was super quick. It was more plot heavy than anything and I was okay with that. The timeline was maybe a week but the romance was abrupt and kind of flat. I honestly was more interested in the plot than the romance.
But it took me right over an hour to read so I’m not complaining. I feel like if it was longer and the romance was more flushed out this could have been amazing.
This is a lovely, sweet read looking at Alan, one of Donovan Havili's cousins, and Grant, a psychic in Tennessee. It's a very quick read, with some funny moments, and gives us an interesting look at a different kind of psychic.
There's no conflict here so it makes it quite a restful book as you don't have any angst over 'will they break up / won't they' - to be honest, it's such a quick read it would probably be difficult to fit that kind of story element in.
I really enjoyed revisiting (sort of, in passing) Jon and Donovan, and meeting more of the Havili family, as well as learning a little more about the psychic abilities in AJ Sherwood's world.
Donovan Havili has a cousin, Alan, who writes true crime books as a side hustle to being a history professor. And, the side hustle is taking center stage. Alan is in town to interview Jon; and Jon tells Alan he would make an awesome anchor for a psychic.
Alan doesn’t feel macho enough, but his curiosity is spiked. Since he is moving to Tennessee to be closer to family, we know Alan is gonna get hooked up.
Grantland Walker finds missing people… by dreamwalking. And it is slowly wearing him down. Grant needs an anchor, but the nature of his abilities makes it a very particular job to fill, because Grant is a first responder. He is called in to try and find them alive, and those calls come at all hours. No takers as yet, and the bags under his eyes are trunks.
When Grant and Alan meet, neither knows the other is gay, but they share an awareness. Then, Grant starts dreaming about Alan, even as he works other cases …
Jon and Donovan give a clue, Grant can sleep on Alan, Alan can defend Grant.
I'd give this 3.5 stars rounded down, even though I really liked the characters.
If you like Sherwood's style and characters (especially Jonathan and Don), you'll enjoy this, as well. The world is still fascinating to me, and I really liked Alan's specialty (and would've liked to see much more).
The main reason this didn't *wow* me is because it's far too short. I don't really like novellas (as I've mentioned many times), but I couldn't resist the description. And it was definitely a fun romp, but it just didn't have that full-bodied, in-depth look at their lives that I wanted. And it's a shame too because Alan's work is truly fascinating, and I think Sherwood could build a very intriguing mystery around his skills. And although I liked Grant, his character was also barely there -- it was like a glimpse of something intriguing as you're looking out a train window.
I'd be all over a full-length novel with these two, though!
This is a very sweet novella about Grant. His prologue in Alan's Utterly Accidental Dream-Cute makes his lack of anchor and almost dangerous level of exhaustion almost tragic so getting his story is great. Alan being a Havili is of course amazingly patient and kind. As a professor and mystery writer, Alan is curious and understanding. and Grant is a dedicated and compassionate guy as well. The way Grant’s dream walker ability works is very interesting., and it’s nice to get a better understanding of it. The series is pretty insta-love so the speed is standard if slightly dissatisfying. While I would have liked a bit more time with the couple, Grant’s ability doesn’t lend itself to an extended mystery like Jon or Mack’s so this cute get-together story works well.
This book happens in the middle of a series I haven’t read yet, so I wasn’t familiar with any of the world building. However, the author does a good enough job explaining things as you go, that I didn’t really have a hard time following along.
I really, really appreciated that this was two mature men, with no angst or drama. They were both at a point in their lives where they needed something from somebody else, and so they cooperated with each other to try to meet those needs.
This isn’t an Insta-love story, but both characters acknowledge the sexual attraction between them, and use that as a steppingstone to build a more multifaceted relationship. I really liked that because it’s true to life, and gives you the smutty bits you want in a romance without the cringe of feeling that can’t possibly form instantaneously.
A.J can you please expand on this storyline? All of your characters are the sweetest and genuinely funny men and I need more, so so much more. I would be happy if you kept writing about all of the characters forever and it was just them in their day to day lives honestly. - I can't get enough and I don't think a 4th re-read is going to be enough for me. I need more. This series is my all time comfort read and I'm desperate for another story. I love the psychic aspect and the love and banter.
Everyone, A.J Sherwood is a phenomenal writer and is by far my favorite author in my 33 years of reading. You'll become best friends with the characters and A.J's stories will become a drug you can't get enough of. I sure can't.
Things you should know: This is a short novella. This story is self-contained. There are no spoilers, and no cliff-hangers, so if you haven't read Jon's or Mack's stories yet, it's fine to read this one first. If you read this story, you won't be roped into the whole thing, either. If you've already read the other books, you've probably read this one too.
This is a sweet, low angst story about another psychic meeting a hot guy who would make a great partner and anchor. There are cute kids, who are lost and found.
After this, consider reading Jon's Mysteries, because they're sweet and funny and fun!
This is a very sweet novella in the Jon's Mysteries universe. I really enjoyed seeing Grant and Alan in more depth, and seeing how their relationship started.
Alan, like all Havilis in his family, has a protective streak the size of a large continent, and the patience to match. Understanding how Grant's ability works, and how in demand he is, is essential to him choosing to become Grant's partner and anchor. And Grant couldn't be more delighted. (He is also delighted by the fact that Alan is a true crime writer, which also brings me great joy!)
All in all, this was a very sweet story, and I very much enjoyed getting to know these characters better.
I really enjoyed this short story about Grant and Alan. I picked this up through one of the many promotions and have not read any of the other stories in this series. The blurb and some of the reviews led me to believe this could be a standalone. I disagree; there was too much going on in this universe that I felt like I was missing things. The storyline was great and the characters were all wonderful. I would have preferred that this was longer and MC’s relationship further developed because they were such a good couple. I’ll have to go back and start reading this series from the beginning.

Heather's Notes This story was cute, but really short. I would have liked to see more of the dynamics between Grant and Alen.
A sweet little side story of finding Jon finding out that another Havili is briliiant anchor material and said Havili finding someone special to anchor for!
Alan isn't looking to anchor and also, not being of the big strong Havili physique, thinks he wouldn't be any good at it. But Jon meddles in sneaky ways and soon Alan is meeting Grant, a dream walker who could really use an anchor. The two meet for Alan's work as an author but they click in more ways than one. It was a very cute story with minimal angst and a fascinating psychic profession.
Likes: -No consent violations -The romantic leads respect and are kind to one another. They do not normalize violence, pain, or emotional abuse during intimacy. Yea! -The romantic leads use a condom, thus avoiding the potential for STDs. -HFN
Dislikes: -The relationship and the ending is rushed, so the reader doesn’t really get any ideas about how the romance will work between the two romantic leads as time progresses.
It’s cute, but it also requires a lot of wishful thinking and the suspension of disbelief to imagine an easy transition from a HFN to a HEA.
This was a cute little introduction to another Havili--Don's cousin, Alan--and a new kind of psychic, Grant. They're both very sweet and, as always, the attraction is instant and intense. As always with a pairing of a Havili, they were ready and willing to jump into all of it with each other, Alan for the sake of helping ground Grant (and mostly get him some much needed sleep!) and Grant loving the idea of an anchor, as well as someone who can tolerate who he is because of what he is. I do enjoy seeing different types of psychics and do hope to see more of this duo.
Nice little story about another fabulous Havili family member and how they are the perfect anchor for those with a psychic talent. Each addition to the series gives a little more information about the different kinds of talent there is in this world. I liked that Alan is so different from his cousin's and yet utterly the same. Him being a teacher that has left the profession to be a full time author to the table which works well with Grant's talent and need to have someone not tied down by a regular 9-5. the romance goes super fast and the humor is there as well.
This is the second time I’ve read this one and I enjoyed it just as much as the first. Basically Grant doesn’t think anyone would be able to tolerate being his anchor and Alan not sure he’s got what’s needed to be one. Alan’s soon to be cousin in law knows they are both wrong. They are precisely what each other needs and he isn’t adverse to setting them up. What follows is an absolute joy to read.
Love this side story of Jon’s Mysteries. Alan is a crime writer and he has come to Tennessee to interview Jon and some of the other psychics. Jon notices that his aura is wonderful and that he would absolutely make a wonderful anchor. One of the psychics he interviews is in desperate need of an anchor. The cases in this story are hard and involve children but they are resolved very quickly. Really enjoyed getting to see Jon and Don again!
Cute new couple in the 'Jon's ' world. Another Havili (Don's cousin this time) is snapped up by another psychic in need of an anchor. I really like both Alan and Grant, & especially how his abilities manifest. I'll definitely read future books with these guys if the author has anything in the works.
I don't think there are any books written by AJ Sherwood that are not awesome! I have purchased several so I could reread them without having to borrow them again. That being said this book is a wonderful, happy, read. Recommend this book and author with my whole heart!
A very cute novella set in the Jon's Mysteries universe. Which were some of my favorite books I read in December, I'll eventually review those/reread them this year.
This universe has psychics and anchors and I love seeing the Havili family pair off with psychics. Grant was really interesting in this one with the most unique psychic talent so far of dream-walking.
If you haven't read A.J. Sherwood's Jon's Mysteries series, do that, before reading this one. It's still easy to understand, but you will appreciate Jon and the Havili clan so much more.
Oh! I loved this so much! Grant’s psychic gift was so cool! And I love that we have another Havili anchor-in-training! I want more of these two together! I really hope that this is a start to a new series because I’m hooked already. If not, I hope that these two pop up again in both Jon’s and Mack’s series!
Not sure if we met these two in past books in this series (my memory is for sh*t) but I found both of them to be amazingly adorable or adorably amazing? Yeah, either one would work! This was an entertaining addition to the series!
I hope to be able to read more by this author in the coming year... the books are waiting, I just have to find the time... 😭😭😭
