He's my brother’s best friend Also my new boss And now my fake husband...
Cade ‘the King’ Kingston, billionaire grumphole and the most sought-after sportsperson on the continent. He’s also London’s most notorious bachelor with a ten-pack and a profile that would make Adonis weep. Too bad he’s ruthless has a heart made of ice and is the most unfeeling brute I have ever met. When my brother asks him to look out for me while he’s away, Cade engages me as his new Communications Manager. Now he’s my boss, I definitely don’t want to get involved with him. But I’ve harbored a secret crush on Cade, and when we start working together in close proximity, my feelings for him multiply. When a stalker targets me, Cade proposes a fake marriage for my protection. But he has secrets of his own...
This is a swoony, angsty, banter-filled romance featuring a woman in over her head, a man in over his heart, and a Champagne loving Great Dane who plays matchmaker by mistake. It stands alone and comes complete with grand romantic gestures.
L. Steele loves to write romance novels featuring powerful men and strong women who bring them to their knees. When she's not writing she enjoys trading trivia with her filmmaker husband, watching lots and lots of movies, and walking nature trails.
unfortunately this one was a complete miss for me…
my two biggest issues were -
1) cade was an absolute ass to the point it was hard to enjoy the story, the way he would internally express he’s in love with abby just to turn around and say something out of pocket and unnecessary annoyed me.
2) abby was just a total pushover with zero backbone. i would have loved for her to have more of a spitfire attitude to match his assery. the way he’d beat her down verbally just for her to drop to her knees also annoyed me.
at the end of the day, different strokes for different folks. maybe i just am not a fan of bully romances, idk. but i just for the life of me couldn’t like these characters.
I plead guilty. I was attracted by the cover. And the blurb. Woe on me. I struggled for many days with this one. For most of the book, this felt like a 2.5 and finally towards the end, it felt marginally better.
This is what LS promised:
For those who love a morally gray,
overprotective,
touch-her-and-I’ll-unalive-you alphahole,
who gives good grovel...
Verdict? Well...
morally gray?: I would not define Cade as morally gray. More like denial personified and toxic, esp. in the first third of the book.
overprotective?: a bit, but I have seen worse.
touch-her-and-I’ll-unalive-you?: yes, he was, it made for funny moments.
alphahole?: yes, very much, but not in a sexy way.
who gives good grovel?: I have to admit that the grovel was quite good. The circumstances to the grovel was so-so and I wanted to dismiss the grovel as lacking real feelings, but in the end, Cade kind of scrapped it decently.
Based on the above, it should pinpoint to an enjoyable read of 4-star level... but it was not. At least for me. Because:
🏏 Way too long book that dragged in many places, plus the writing style made the plot feel wonky and OTT in as many places. The timeline is blurred with some fill in the blank needed and many times too, I felt like too much improbable things happening at the same time e.g. at a single charity ball, the h, Abby, is successively, in annoyed mode (on page), then jealous mode (on page), then in brutal lust mode with jerkwad Cade (on page), then, in supposedly damage control PR style (off page), and finally got a job proposal from said PR intervention (off page)... I felt the whiplash. And this happened so many times throughout the book.
🏏 Too many secondary characters from obviously other books that I have not read, all with annoying high society names, and of course, all powerful and wealthy. The high British society, including the fact that Abby hails from mafia royalty (which she ran from) and that Cade is a billionaire professional cricketeer, depicted felt obnoxious at best.
🏏 The H: A seriously vulgar alphahole, whose dirty mouth and shitty bed manners inspired repulsion instead of arousal. Esp. in the first 3rd of the book. All in the name of a supposed revenge to what Abby did against him, when she was 14 ().... Granted that (a) Abby was a very, very willing (even asking for it!) victim to his degrading sex antics, and (b) Abby felt real guilty to what she did and the consequences to her mistake was indeed bad, yet the level of degradation involved, the roughness involved and the many gratuitous insults created a toxic atmosphere that was awful to go through. The sex scenes were very unpleasant from my reader's perspective. I would not qualify all this as 'dark', just plain vulgar and repulsive. Later, he did let go of 'his masks' (and his remorse each time he hurt her was shown on page) but I still felt his character to be insubstantial, not tangibly probable at all.
🏏 The h: Abby always felt hurt at each cutting word, each rejection, each degrading behaviour... and then almost immediately, always worried about Cade, felt guilty for what she did, asked for more degradation... only to draw the line when Cade pretends his epic marriage proposal, in a PR fake proposal stunt, was indeed fake (!), and that he lied when he said he wanted her close for her protection at the behest of her brother (his bff)... really girl? You draw the line at that after all he said and did before, not to forget he left you without a word for eight months? Yes, the grovel was decent, but what prompted it felt weak....
I wanted to like it, but the book felt like too much at times, and too off at other times.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Hahaha. I was suckered in to this book by the pretty flowers on the cover, they look like some dahlias I plant in my garden each year that I love. And also by the prologue blurb: “For those who love a morally gray, overprotective, touch-her-and-I’ll-unalive-you alphahole, who gives good grovel...”
At 3% into this book, I was already stopping to see how many more pages I needed to get thru. Unfortunately once I saw I was only on page 15 of 464 (😖) I jumped on to Goodreads, skimmed thru reviews and understood why it’s sitting at a 3.63 rating.
I wish Goodreads had an option to hide all 5-star ARC reviews, because I disregard them anyway. Besides the few glowing ARC reviews, the remaining reviews all seem to complain about the same thing. The hero being over-the-top in the alphahole dept, too much degradation, crass sex scenes, and extremely weak heroine that loves being treated like crap. All in all, not romantic for me.
What initially stopped me from reading and starting to question the book was the cheesy way everything was written. The way the hero’s 1st person POV came across was nauseating and in elementary simplistic phrases/sentences.
The heroine was right away described as a curvy girl, then referenced her plumpness a few more times. I get that the 2020’s is a time to be all-inclusive… but reading romance is an escape from harsh realities for me. I’m not obese, nor am I a stick either, but I don’t particularly love the extra weight I’ve put on the last few years (I’m looking at you COVID, and your isolation ways!)… so my ideal escapism heroine is not going to have fat jiggling from her every movement that we focus on repeatedly. (Once or twice is fine)
Out of curiosity, I pulled an Izzie (🤩) and searched keywords. I started with how often “fat” and “thick” were used… and they were actually used more to describe the hero’s junk (than the heroines body). But as I skimmed thru the search results, I could see the sentences were all totally crass and unsexy to me. (Just as many 1-star reviews claimed)
So no rating, but this will be a one and done for me by this author ☹️
this was so bad i almost didn’t put it on my goodreads. the writing is bad. the fmc has legit no self respect. the love interest is SO MEAN. and not in like a redeemable enemies to lovers like he repeatedly refers to her as just a hole. and she LETS HIM and CHASES AFTER HIM. i kept waiting for her to stand up for herself and she literally never does. no thank u. i dont recommend at all.
★Because this Valentine's Day you deserve the most epic grovel ever. Words and sentences and chapters and pages and pages of it! Because YOU are worth it!! And because I love you and I had to bring Cade on his knees just for YOU!★
"All I want is a chance to prove to you that I know how wrong I was. Give me a chance to make it up to you. A chance to show you how things can be with us." She glances away, then back at me. "Why should I?" I blink. Why should she listen to me? Why should she agree to give me one minute, let alone one chance, to show her how much she means to me? "Tell me why Cade? Why should I even listen to what you have to say after what you did to me? Why should I believe you, when all you’ve done is be nasty to me and lie to me at every turn?" I swallow, glance around the room looking for answers, then glance down at the floor in front of me. I bend one knee, then the other, until I’m kneeling on the floor...
An absolute NO for me! I read enough mafia stories that my sensitive nature has toughened considerably and I can take the over the top cruelty, mercurial, and a-holeness behaviour in small doses especially when a HEA is promised BUT this story was so over the top I barely finished. We were told why Cain was angry with her, but he continually demeaned her in ways that sickened me. This demeaning behaviour added zero to the story. Most of us need to at least like the characters so we can root for them but Cain was demented, nasty and demeaning and Abby, she lapped it up ‘out of guilt’ which made it impossible to like a character that has not even an ounce of self respect. Add to that, the long winded writing that went on and on, I barely finished. At the end, Cain completely flipped ‘huh’ because he saw her upset? ??!W# So, he didn’t think choking her with his body parts, whipping her with his belt and treating her like dog crap under his shoe didn’t upset a virgin who’d never been around this behaviour before. The whole story was lonnnng over the top and completely unbelievable. I couldn’t find any reason to like it which is upsetting to me because A. I bought it and B. I read it. I have many stories by this author in my tbr list and now my reading groups tells me this is common for this author, so I’m also wishing I hadn’t bought all those books.
I have mixed feelings about this book and could give it a 3-3.5 ⭐️ I could totally see where the author was trying to go with everything, there were definitely some good plot elements but it didn’t fully connect for me.
Overall I like Cade and Abby. I’m a fan of bully romances so nothing about them was triggering for me. I like how there was longstanding longing between them and others seemed to know it for years. I didn’t like how weak Abby was considering what her betrayal actually was. The betrayal just was not that deep to me for how he harbored it for a decade and how she just did whatever he said for most of the book! I would’ve loved her to have more backbone or for the betrayal to have been something bigger that made her weakness sensible. They did have some cute moments though, the proposal was swoon cute even though he was a douche afterwards. Since we as the reader knew his true feelings that was still a feel good moment and made me like them a bit more.
I am a spicy girl and the spice was definitely part of the plot here. I enjoyed those heavier scenes in the earlier chapters of the book. The second half was lacking in the spice area. It was almost as if the first half was spice with a side of plot then the second half tried to be all plot. It could’ve been evened out a bit more or the story a little shorter in general. Overall it’s a hood read though. It could potentially be a 5 star read if there was a little more balance.
-brothers best friend -betrayed past -TOP TIER groveling -fake fiancé
Just based off the tropes I knew this is was gonna be good. Abby betrayed Cade in high school, when they were just kids, that ruined his life. & he was never going to let her forget it. Now, years later being brought together…she still realizes how gone for him she is. This was so full of tension & then THE GROOOVVEEELLINNNGGG!! Omg it was PRIMEEE groveling. Like not just a paragraph of “oh baby I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to, please forgive me”…..I’m talking multiple chapters, I’m talking actions, I’m talking SWEETEST WORDS OF DEVOTION IVE EVER READ! Literally obsessed. Cade was the sweetest!
I honestly don’t know how to feel about this book, this was a booktok recommendation.
Cade absolutely bullied her for like the first half of the book. He was out to break her down and destroy her for anyone else. It made it hard to read the book because Abby was fine with it, she had no backbone what so ever. He treated he like shit while also being in love with her at the same time?
This really just felt like a lust filled relationship and nothing more than that. The last few chapters I guess were cute but it made it hard too see it after how he treated her. Gave it two stars because I at least finished the book but it really was hard to.
The writing is TERRIBLE and it's almost like the author scrambled to add all the popular tropes they could think of in one teeny tiny book making my head spin. DNF because it was physically impossible for me to turn a page and read the next chapter for this atrocity
I edited this book, so I got to read it early—lucky me—so it was kind of an ARC. Cade and Abby’s story is one of my favorite tropes—second-chance love. Cade and Knight are best friends and Abby is Knight’s younger sister. From the moment they met, they both felt an undeniable attraction, but they were too young. And Cade felt it would be a betrayal of his friendship to pursue Abby. Being a petulant teenager, she did something stupid that got him expelled from their high school and he has carried that grudge for twelve years. Now, all he feels for her is loathing and he has shown up in her life to seek revenge.
From the start, it’s clear that there’s more to it than that. Every time Cade does something hurtful to Abby, he has to ignore the way he feels about it. His body keeps trying to tell him that hurting her is hurting him. He’s unwilling to admit, even to himself, that he still has feelings for her. She doesn’t hide the way that she feels, and he mocks her for it and tells her there can never be anything between them because she betrayed his trust. She has felt guilty from the moment it happened and she’s willing to do anything to make it up to him, but he hasn’t the ability to offer her grace, until it’s too late. (These alphaholes never do anything right, do they? They always manage to orchestrate things to be harder than they have to be.)
It becomes clear that Cade and Abby were always meant to be together; some might call them soul mates. They both sensed it even when they were young, but neither was willing to risk rejection. Now, Cade has covered those feelings of affection with bitterness and hatred.
Over time, it becomes apparent that he hasn’t held a grudge against those who helped to plan his downfall. He only blames Abby. That’s because he didn’t care about those other people, and he knew they didn’t care about him. Her betrayal hurt more than anyone else’s because he thought they shared something special. He finally admits to her that she broke his heart when she did what she did, and that it wasn’t about his life being destroyed so much as it was about her being the one who destroyed it.
Naturally, Cade pushes this animosity between them for so long that she decides she’s through with him, and that’s about the time he finally admits to himself that he loves her. JJ, Sinclair, and Michael (from other books in the series) offer him the relationship wisdom they learned doing similar dumbass things to the women they love. In a nutshell—grovel. So now, we get to see Cade’s attempts at groveling, which I have to say, are initially quite pathetic. Of course, he eventually figures it out, but after all of the bumps along the way, he’s lucky Abby still loves him. Cue—happily ever after. I enjoyed it, despite Cade being a complete and utter @$$hole throughout much of the book.
Tropes: brother’s best friend 💙 enemies to lovers 💋 workplace 📂 marriage of convenience 💍 dark romance 🥀
This was a revenge story about Cade and Abby. Cade was Abby’s brother best friend from childhood that she betrayed. Years went by until he was in her neighborhood and helped her when someone took her bag.
He had this plan to use her just so she could feel how it felt years ago for him.
First he was such an asshole but after a while, especially when she was in danger you could see that he was changing for her.
I really liked Abby in this story and her friends!
This book was really spicy and there was a lot of dirty talk! 🌶️
If you like reading dark romances, you should really try this book! ❤️
Thank you to L. Steele and Brianna for providing me with this arc. My opinions are my own.
From captivating romance to dangerous intrigue, The Agreement is the kind of story that's hard to put down. With emotions deep enough to drown in and surprising twists galore, Abby and Cade kept me on the edge of my seat the whole read through.
The Agreement: A brother’s best friend forbidden romance that is penned exemplary with compelling characters and a transfixing plot. Very intriguing background history between Abby and Cade. Drenched with suspense through the pages of this riveting read. Tiny, The Great Dane making an appearance was the cherry on top. A pure perfection enemies-to-lovers romance read.
Saw this on a FB group but unfortunately I was disappointed. The hero was an a"%%le until the very end and the heroine had no backbone. He hurt her repeatly but she always brush it aside because she thought he was hurting and there for,he was entitled to hurt her. Anyway , dnf at 60%
This story takes place in the same world as the Seven series and the Sovrano Bros. series. In fact, the H gets some much needed advice from Sinclair Sterling, J.J. Kane and Michael Sovrano, characters from both those series.
This H (MMC) is a little different from Steele's characters in the other books. All are strong, dominant and confident men. All come into contact with their women under some nefarious reason or situation (kidnapping, saving them from harm, lying to them, using them in some way for vengeance against them or a family member; you get the idea). All are unwilling to admit their feelings for their women, in the beginning, but eventually they do, and eat crow to make her his. This one is no different, except that he runs hot and cold through most of this story. Just as quickly as he starts to admit that he might have feelings for the h (MFC), he denies it to himself and, very cruelly, to her even after she's told him how she feels.
This H is a hard nut to crack, while she accepts everything he dishes out partly because she feels she deserves it for what she did, but also because she's always had that particular kink to be dominated, etc, especially by him. Eventually, she finally stands up to him and walks away. That's when he finally admits to her how he feels, only now she doesn't believe him. I love that it's Sinclair, J.J. and Michael who teach him he has to learn to eat crow if he wants to keep the love of his life by his side and be happy.
I don't typically care for a wishy washy H's, but Steele writes a good story with lots of backgound revealed throughout that kind of explains his attitude so you can't help but feel for him while still wanting to 'whallop him upside the head'. In effect, he's fighting himself; the feelings he had for her in the past are resurfacing and warring with his long time need and goal to make her pay. Add to that the way he's learned to live his life to avoid getting hurt again and you have a rollercoaster of emotions, on both sides, in this story.
My only complaint is the few typos and editing errors, and this seems to be happening more and more in Steel's later books. In this one, there is one area where a few paragraphs of dialogue are repeated. There are also some typos (a "this" that should be "his", a missing " to" or "of", etc.). Additional there are some minor inconsistencies, e.g., the chamomille tea. The first time it's given to him, he thinks it's awful with the first sip, but the second sip isn't so bad. By third it goes down easy and he drinks the rest with no problem. (There's some symbolism to this). But the next two times he's given the tea, he thinks it's awful and pratically gags with each subsequent sip and can't finish it. (Seems to negate the whole symbolism of the first time.)
Steele definitely needs a new editor or, if this IS a new one, go back to her original. At minimum, she needs someone else to give a final proof reading BEFORE she sends out ARCs and certainly before book release.
Ultimately, I give this 4 stars. (Had to deduct for errors.) Will I continue reading Steele's novel? Absolutely, in spite of the editing errtors, I love her stories and characters.
The story of Cade and Abby begins with Cade being the best friend of Abby's brother, from the moment they met they felt an undeniable attraction, but it could not only be a betrayal towards Aby's brother (as Cade saw it) they were too young too. But Abby in her immaturity got him kicked out of high school and of course Cade is filled with a grudge he's held for twelve years and now he's reappearing to seek revenge. But even though he's determined to get his revenge, it's not going to be that easy because every time Cade does something that hurts Abby, he has to ignore how he feels about it and he's not willing to admit why. So many things will happen between them and there will be moments where it causes Abby to slap a bit of common sense to make her stronger or Cade to stop being such a jerk, I know you're going to enjoy this story, I recommend it.
*Thanks L. Steele and Literally Yours PR for my ARC. I voluntarily leave my honest review*
A wonderful read that you will love every moment of, the characters and the story so gripping
Cade had waited over yen years to seek revenge for the injustice that had lost him his place and scholarship place at the school he had worked so hard to attain a place in, his best friend who could afford to pay because his family were rich had tried to help but he had been kicked out and he blamed one person Abby.
He had still managed to succeed and is currently the cricketing captain of England but his talents lie far farther than this as he has extended his portfolio into other business areas and he continues to earn a sound outcome that will ensure that he will never have to take rubbish from anyone ever again.
Abby is unaware that Cade has still stayed in such close contact with her brother that he has asked after his sister and privately has kept tabs on her and what she has been doing with her life. She was always regarded as a Princess but she has left her family home and earns her own income living in a small apartment which is nothing fancy and Cade is surprised in the change in her.
Now he is going to seek the retribution he has been waiting for, he is going to humiliate her in what ever way he wants but what he had not expected was that every thing he did to her made him feel bad, made him realise that he still cared for her but he had no idea what he was going to do about it.
The more he tries to seek retribution the more his feelings towards Abby seem to change but can they overcome the years of pain and suffering and the humiliation he blames her for, his life changed direction but perhaps he became stronger because of it. It certainly seems that the way Abby changed her life by moving away from the wealth and notoriety of her family and struck out on her own which was something he would never have expected.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is Cade and Abby's story and I felt that it was told in two parts. It's an enemy to lovers' story, brothers' best friend, and fake engagement with a slight mafia angle. Part 1 is from the first chapter thru the end of the 22nd chapter which is at 38% of the story. It all happens 8 months before the real present begins. It's also the period in time before Zara and Hunter have their baby. If you read the last book, it's the scene with Zara, Cade and Abby at the hospital and that opens up chapter 23.
I am a new reader to this authors work and have only read Zara and Hunter's book. I fell hard for Abby and Cade in that book and so I could not wait to read this book. To be honest I did not love the first part of the story. Cade is extremely mean and hurtful to Abby, and he says some horrible things to her. I really hated that she took that from him and even allowed him to treat her that way and has sex with him. He then leaves her for 8 months and while that bugs Abby, I was really loving the separation.
But the second part of the story which is from chapter 23 and on was absolutely awesome. It's hot, sexy and Cade treats her so much better. It has action and a stalker, and I loved how protective Cade is of Abby and in this part of the story she has grown up, changed and gotten a strength that was wonderful to read about, and she makes Cade work for her heart.
This is a story about moving on, forgiveness, friendship, family and most of all love. Cade and Abby in this book follow their hearts and sometimes that's not always easy, but they also learn to love and forgive each other for the past. I loved this story so very much.
Oh! Definitely this book is the perfect treat to us for this valentine's day. Hot, spicy and lots of passionate yet hateful... Umm... Yeah. The tropes of this intrigued me and now here I'm completely lost in the whole book.
Cade - He's definitely the Alphahole hero. This man made my tongue go dry with his hateful yet lovely words as I kept my mouth wide open and adored him. Initially I felt like he should stop pretending to hate and start loving his girl but then when he opened up to her, I completely felt like him loathing her was justified.
Abby - Who wouldn't love the Mafia princess with sass? She's a perfectionist but for him she's all messed up and never mind he's alqays there to love her what she's. I just couldn't stop myself from laughing and crying with her. She's sweet but can also turn rebel for Cade.
I completely enjoyed their chemistry. I'll just drop a little glimpse of their hot moment.
💜"Are you tender?" I nod. "Did it hurt?’ I nod again. "Mission accomplished."💜
The whole scene made my stomach dip. Trust me even if you don't wanna know about Cade and Abby, At least give a shot to their spicy moments 🥵.
Zara... I wonder how I missed her book. I'm so curious to know about Zara who's Cade's one only sister and Hunter's dear wife.
This book just made my weekend and I'm glad that I picked this ARC just by looking at the tropes 💜
@authorl.steele is truly talented as I kept on reading at a stretch till I finished the bonus Epilogue as well. 💕 @wildfiremarketingsolutions Thanks a lot for providing me this Captivating and Gripping story book with a lots of Spicy moments.
Another hit from L. Steele I have loved every book of hers that I have read. This is Cade and Abbys story and what a wild ride it was. Cade is a grumpy cricket playing billionaire who has decided it is time to get revenge on his best friend Knights baby sister. She is the reason his life when downhill when they were younger, and he has never forgiven her for it. Abby has tried to break free from the Mafia princess role she was placed in when she was younger and gone out on her own away from her family. She is now working as a PR rep and when one day she has a run in with a robber Cade is placed in her path once again. These two have a tragic past that she regrets to the fullest, but he is determined to break her for it. The chemistry these two have is electric and heat up the pages but will he ever be able to forgive her and will she ever be able to trust him. when a situation arises, he decides that she should be his fake fiancé but in the end is that what he want or will he finally admit his true feelings. These two have some past baggage they need to overcome. Once you start this story you won't be able to put it down. We get fun glimpses at past characters and what they are up to as well as sneak peaks at books to come. The push and pull and crazy chemistry make this book so enjoyable while to just want to slap Cade and say get over yourself but, in the end, he sure learns the art of gravelling. Fantastic story. I was given this book as an ARC for my honest review.
Lord Have Mercy! I read the blurb to this book and thought - wow this sounds good - which it totally was, but there is so much more to this book that it not only surprised me but had me glued to the pages. Our main couple, Abby and Cade, knew each other in high school. She was a mafia princess and he was the boy from the wrong side of the tracks who she secretly crushed on and who also just happened to be her brother’s best friend. But when Abby does something dumb, Cade gets expelled from school and he’s never forgiven her. Fast forward 12 years, Abby has broken away from her family and barely getting by living on her own and Cade is a wealthy, world class Cricket player. Cade suddenly bursts back into her life. Abby hoping for forgiveness and a reunion, Cade wanting revenge for what she did to him. But things don’t exactly go as either of them planned. It seems like everything Cade tries to do to Abby she enjoys, well most things. But when Abby comes into her own and then becomes the target of a stalker, all bets are off. As far as Cades is concerned she is his to protect and care for, even if it kills him.
I can’t begin to tell you how sexy, suspenseful and intriguing I found the storyline. The banter between the couple was outstanding and their connection even more so - even during the rough times. I highly recommend it.
The Agreement by L Steele is the story of Cade and Abby. It's A brother's best friend forbidden, workplace, enemies to lovers romance.Cade ‘the King’ Kingston, is a billionaire grumphole and the most sought-after sportsperson on the continent. He’s also London’s most notorious bachelor with a ruthless and revengeful heart. Cade and Abby's brother are best friends, Knight asks Cade to look out for Abby when he is away. Cade and Abby has ten year history with Cade looking to take revenge on Abby on an incident which took place ten years ago. This is a swoony passionate, angsty, banter-filled romance where is heroine is already in love with the hero.I did not like the first part of the story where Cade is extremely mean and hurtful to Abby.
Then the second part starts after 8 months, the story gets bettered thereafter and he treats Abby really well. Abby too is changed and comes more stronger and is able to stand for herself, her confidence is greater and gives back to Cade. This story is well written and was wonderful to read. It's a wonderful story about moving on, forgiveness, friendship. We see our favourite characters Hunter and Zara making an appearance in this much loved book.
I voluntarily received and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy
Cade is best friends with Knight, and Knight's younger sister is Abby, so you already know there's going to be some complication to this story just from that LOL! Abby has harbored a secret crush on Cade for a cool minute, but that whole bro code is a thing, plus the fact she made a mistake which affected his life badly, and he's still resentful over a decade later. She starts working for him, and I have to be honest, he's a real piece of work towards her (that whole resentful thing), so I wanted to choke him out more than once. However he does feel badly inside, but that wasn't enough for me to not want to choke him out LOL! They're definitely perfect for each other, however, resentment makes life harder on everyone involved that's for sure but there's more. Abby has a stalker, and this is where things take a turn since Cade makes a fake marriage proposal for her safety. So there's a lot going in this awesome story to keep me turning the pages very quickly with the angst levels, sparks flying, and kicker of suspense so yeah, I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I wasn’t prepared for what I was getting into when I started this book. I love me an enemies to lovers but this was more bullying than I expected. I felt like Cade was too out of pocket and that Abby was too easy to forgive him. I also don’t understand how she could have thought the proposal was real when he never reciprocated the feelings she expressed to him.
I would feel myself getting emotional for Abby because I felt bad for her. I expected her to have a good yelling match or crying breakdown and she never did. I felt like I really needed her to. All the emotions she internally expressed never matched her behaviors. She deserved to yell and scream and cry at Cade. They both kept going back and forth and it was too toxic for me.
The spice was spicing but that was the only part I liked about the book. Even sometimes the spice felt weird and out of place. I feel like they lacked a solid emotional and heartfelt connection and really only had a lust filled connection. I finished the book but only because I hate to DNF.

I think so far between The Proposal & The Christmas One Night Stand, The Agreement has been my favorite. I loved Abby & Cade, HOWEVER- & this is a BIG however, Cade’s actions really aggravated me & I really wish Abby stood up for herself more. And sooner too. It was obvious to everyone that Cade hade real feelings for her, especially when after every time he hurt her he felt remorse & had to remind himself why he was doing it. I didn’t agree w/his actions, yes Abby made a horrible mistake when she was 14, but she was a child & I felt Cade was taking it too far, & to have waited 12 years to get his revenge!?? No. And to only blame her, his best friends little sister??? I couldn’t understand that for awhile while reading this book, but I do now… her betrayal hurt so much because he always loved her. These books just keep getting better & better, & I can’t wait for Declan & Solene’s story. I was really interested in them while reading this book, & I know by how this book ended their story is going to be very emotional!
Cade had been carrying a deep resentment toward Abby. The ways in which he saw himself taking revenge against the woman who had ruined his life, according to him, seemed few to him. Dramatic and ultra-spiteful was the man! He had me impressed and sometimes laughed at his way of thinking and acting. He was in desperate need of advice and guidance. The coaching, meaning intervention, although by force, was certainly necessary. It made me want to shake it! Grrrr! Guilt-ridden, Abby was having a hard time with Cain enduring the punishment, but also enjoying the torrid passion that the two generated. Also, with a well-kept little secret that shocked Cade. Girl, the crush had hit you hard. Interesting and entertaining how everyone had something to say. Poor Cade! As the saying goes "So much swimming to die on the shore". Intriguing the things that were happening around them. I eagerly await to see what will happen next. Voluntarily reviewed this copy that I enjoyed.
Cade is the worst, even more than Liam. Throw in The Seven and JJ, and Tiny, you have an engaging story from page one. Cade is an alphah…, you want to throttle him just about on every page. Abby is hilarious in her thoughts, Big Ben vs Eiffel Tower, and she can hold her own, and even more than Cade can throw at her, but he still doesn’t get it either. Everyone knows what’s going on, even the Coach! She kept a big secret from him, but he’s the king of secrets. The back and forth between them is a wild ride. The proposal was epic, but the after description, was just as epic but for the wrong reasons, it was perfect. “Perfectly imperfect.” A lot of funny, sweet, tense and lovely moments in this book. You won’t be disappointed, even if you do like chamomile tea.
Ms Steele has done it again and given us a book full of suspense, drama , lust and romance. I have loved this series and having read all of the previous books I was highly anticipating this one and I was not disappointed at all. In fact, I am always left wondering how Ms Steele can continue to deliver exceptional work. Plenty of characters to add to the drama but that is also the appeal and Cade and Abby are never short of alphaness and sass. An amazing read by an amazing author who is always outdoing herself. Cade and Abby are not meant to be but as enemies who become lovers they certainly heat up the pages and it provides for a very spicy and sexy read.
I received an arc copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
The Agreement by L. Steele is the turbulent story of Cade and Abby. Wow!! There’s sooooo much story packed into this read!! I LOVED it1!! These two are at odds with each other throughout the book. Abby has done things he can’t forget. But, he has his own plans now that she’s back…and he is tasked with protecting her.
Their constant banter, and back-and-forth jibes were so much fun to read! Whew…they both have some sharp tongues! Both of them are harboring their secrets, their regrets, and their deep, deep feelings. Meanwhile, danger is lurking everywhere!! So much behind the scenes issues, so many twists and turns! This was an excellent read!!!
I am volunteering to leave a review for an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
