Tales of Voracious is a thirty story anthology featuring the passionate adventures of a Guardian--a person who finds and connects with monsters in tantalizing and delicious ways. The world of Voracious is one of intimacy, connection, and passion. The Guardian wanders from place to place, following tales of creatures and monsters, to discover the truth of their stories and forge a deep connection with them. These connections are loving, consensual, passionate, and often carnal.
Each erotic tale dives deep into the monster’s story and pulls out the humanity behind the myth and legend to show that monsters are deserving of love and understanding too. It is pivotal in these stories that the monsters are treated with compassion, desire, and understanding. These key goals have become part of the Tales of Voracious world, offering readers an erotic story focused on humanity instead of dehumanizing and fetishization.
Join the Guardian as she explores the truth of legends and myths, seeks to understand the monster within, and shares an intimate and loving encounter with the creature discovered. Each story offers an intimate, passionate look at the monster and their needs, combining research, erotic writing, and humanity.
If you like fantasy and erotica, this is the book for you. It has heart, humanity, and lots of sexy scenes to demonstrate that monsters aren't what they seem, and are deserving of compassion and being seen. (Yes, that's an analogy and it's well done).
Tales of Voracious is the latest work from writer Kate Bullock. These tales grew from her blog and successful Kickstarter a year or so ago. Inside, you will find thirty stories, all told from the point of view of The Guardian, a group that has existed since the dawn of time to fight against the monsters—not with weapons or magic, though, something more primal and effective.
The "Guardians" as Bullock has envisioned them are older than the tales of monster hunters. So before Perseus, before Little Red Riding Hood, and before the slasher films of the 80s, there was the Epic of Gilgamesh. The Guardians, if I may be so bold, remind me of Shamhat who brought civilization to the wild man Enkidu. Bullock knows her fairytales and knows her mythology.
Bullock's Guardians are more than monster hunters; they are architects of a complex, often disturbing relationship between humans and the monstrous. By framing these tales from their perspective, she inverts traditional power dynamics, challenging us to reconsider our fear and fascination with the creatures of fear. The result is a collection that is both thought-provoking and undeniably sensual.
There are monster hunters here, but they are seen as a violent aberration to the Guardians' more subtle gifts.
While there is something deeper here, the book also reads perfectly fine if all you want is some "monster love." Come for the steamy scenes, but keep reading for the commentary.
Among my favorite tales here are "Sea Witch," "Hag," "Mothman" (because why not!), "Faerie Queen," and "Krampus."
I understand she has another book out and I can't wait.
Come for the erotica, stay for the legend. An incredible first offering from Kate Bullock. This book is a series of short stories about our main character and how they make the world a slightly better place through their erotic adventures. The erotica is female positive and queer positive and will take you well beyond any romance novel sex scene. But what really caught me about this book and what has me looking forward to the next is the world Kate has built, the characters, their back stories and a legend unfolding.
