This is the literary memoir of, arguably the first tribal novelist of India. The book is a poignant memoir an Adivasi who emerged as a writer to reinstate and uphold the dignity of his tribe. Narayan begins the memoirs with details of the Adivasi tribe called Malaarayar to which he belonged to. Those days Malaaraya tribe members used to stay in the forest or in the bordering areas of the forest. Narayan was initiated into reading during the primary school days, to overcome hunger! He wrote his first novel as a response to the attempts at tarnishing the people of his tribe. The later part of the book traces his career as a writer and his bitter experiences as an author.
