Jonathan Tibbs works for the Muskogee, Oklahoma Fire Department. He's earning an Associate's degree in Emergency Management and also serves in the National Guard. His brother, Jason, studies climate change on insect behavior and works at a local syrup factory, while also raising pet wasps in his room. A freight train carrying toxic waste spills and wildlife comes into contact with the substance. Soon after, human-sized wasps appear and terrorize the area. Jonathan and Jason muster their resources to combat the invasion of the monstrous pests. Jonathan notifies his commander, General Adams. She orders Jonathan to stop the invaders and destroy the nests. Jason helps his brother on the mission with his knowledge of insects. They come across a vial of the toxic substance and save it. The wasps spread and form multiple nests, and force the brothers to see if their pet wasps will be on their side after mutating them. When the killer wasps discover the syrup factory as a major food source, they swarm at all costs. Can they be stopped?
This book was bad but reading it was my punishment for not reading the description before entering the giveaway (I thought it was a nonfiction book about wasps).
Hard to follow at times and ends very abruptly but still an ok book. Toxic waste mutates regular red wasps and turns them into 8 feet long killing machines with stingers the size of swords. There’s a cool twist in how the townspeople and the military deal with the mutants. Not to give too much away but think Jurassic World but instead of pet raptors, you get pet wasps.
Thanks to the author and/or publisher for the Goodreads giveaway copy I won.
A train derails near Muskogee that has toxic waste in its cars. Some of the waste spills on a wasps nest, which causes the wasps to mutate and grow extremely large. These wasps then go on a killing rampage. It is up to the National Guard, Law Enforcement and others to kill them. Read to see if they are successful. The book is roughly written, but it does have its good parts.
Won from a Goodreads Giveaway. Overall not bad. It reminds me of an old horror movie type of book. Needs a little fine tuning. Sometimes a little hard to follow when jumping back to other characters in a different scene without making it clear. The ending doesn't feel like an ending, it just stops.
This book was a very fun and quick read. The only complaint I had was with the 2 main characters having similar names. I am not a fan of wasps, and despise them a little more now!!!
But this book was action packed. I was not happy with the ending as I like all of the plot lines to come to a conclusion. I guess the author, Brian Winslow was leaving it open for a sequel. Maybe...
A quick fun read. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3. I felt like this one was a storyline mostly pulled from older horror movies. Not bad, and I always encourage others to check it out for themselves.
