Scorch #2

World Saving and Other Disasters

Rate this book
A winged thief. A tree newly turned human. And they just robbed the whole world.

Only days after being thrown in jail for their crimes, Archer and Wick are back out and on the run again. The dark force is getting closer on the horizon, and the stones they need to stop it have been scattered once more. Time is running out; there is no room for do-overs. But this time they have even fewer resources than before. None of their previous allies trust them, and those who hated them before are now out for blood. Still, they have to do this, even if some people don't turn out to be who they thought they were. It's either succeed or watch Aro burn to the ground.

What a brilliant follow-up to Robbing Centaurs.

With higher stakes, family, hardships and drama, Meyer's writing shines in this book in a way that got me hooked from the first chapter and kept me wanting to come back.

Cannot wait for book three. If you like stories with moral questions, life and death, towns and villages and humor and tears, this is the one.

I so enjoyed this book.

I'm going to scream. Book one was amazing, but book two is one of my favourite things I've ever read. Bethany is criminally underrated. I rarely read books that grab me as tightly as this one did. Being back with Wick and Archer was amazing. I'm going to miss them. Looking forward to book three.

OMG IM SCREAMING!!
After reading and loving Robbing Centaurs, I was dying to get my hands on book 2 and to see how Bethany was going to follow up such a bomb start to the series.
I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!!

The first book was super comical and fantastical to read but things got series there at the end. I was really curious to see how the vibe of book 2 was going to be when the world is threatened enough that the time for humor is over. Bethany's answer?? Emotional damage of course. And I loved every second.

Seeing Archer and Wick trade places emotionally was charming and heart breaking at the same time. I wanted so badly to crush them in hugs and fix everything for them.

Did that take away from the action? Not at all. Thingsss happen and I loved the more political stance that was taken since it opened up more of the worldbuilding.

And the ending??? WHERES THE NEXT BOOK???

HIGHLY recommend for high fantasy lovers who want a quick easy read that'll instantly become your new favorite.

Amazing. High-stakes, great action, and lovable characters in a unique fantasy world.

This book focuses more on Archer, while the first book focused more on Wick. As a Wick fan, I was sad to see less of him, but Archer's story is so compelling, I didn't mind too much. There's family drama, role reversal, and plenty of humorous angst.

While the plot is slightly slower, it's still engaging and keeps your interest the whole way through. There's just enough tension sprinkled in to make you have to know what happens next. And did I mention it's 100% clean?

Can't wait to read book three!

“No. But if I come back in a box, I'm blaming you." "If you come back in a box, I'm blaming you.”

Returning to Archer and Wicks desperate rush to save Aro, with some serious obstacles and a lot of pushback was a joy.
I love the character development our fav boys go through as well as the new information about the Scorch. The stakes are only getting highly and I’m so hyped for book 3!!!

World saving and other disasters deserves more readers. The story is well written and really pulls you in. The dialogue is flows well with the prose. The author does quite well in being serious but also adding in humor when the story needs to be lightened. The characters are well written and the main characters, in particular, are easy to be empathetic with. The characters the author wants you to love are easily loved and the ones she wants you to hate are easily hated. I can’t wait for the next book to come out.

I loved the first book in this series (Robbing Centaurs and Other Bad Ideas). If you haven't read the first book, go and read it.

This is a good series to encourage teens to read because the book is fun and cool.

Because I loved the first book so much, I had really high expectations for this second book. This second one, though, did not have much of what I loved about the first one.

I loved Wick and Archer's contrasting personalities, but because of the plot, they didn't spend as much time together, and when they did, they had to swap roles, and so their contrast wasn't so distinct.

I loved the crazy situations and wacky ways they handled them in the first book, but how they obtained the Heather stones this time felt way too easy and too coincidental. Even when it started to seem like they had a challenge, it ended up not actually being a challenge.

I did like that I got to find out more about Archer and his family.

I also liked that Archer learned some lessons.

I also appreciated that this book had some more depth. I do wish the pace of the book hadn't been so fast so that the meaningful moment had more time to develop.

Even though this second book wasn't as good as the first one, I still enjoyed reading it and still want to read the third book when it comes out.

After Wick & Archer spent the first book stealing from everyone, here in the second book they are trying to do things right in spite of everyone having legit reasons to not trust them. In this book, we see lots of personal growth as they try to negotiate and gain allies. They do pretty well with this and we get to know their past and a softer side of both characters. They also learn who their enemy really is & that completing their mission to gather the stones and cast the barrier spell is their only hope as they’d never be able to defeat them. This book has the same wonderful humor as the first, & the reader is bound to like the characters even more by the end of it.
Even though they are using magic to defeat the enemy, there really isn’t any other magic in the book. The magic is in the rocks. There is some violence, as they are essentially trying to stop a war. It’s not overly graphic. I’m looking forward to book 3 & to reading more from Meyer as she has a unique and beautiful voice.

Fascinating sequel!

This series is really interesting, combining a lot of diverse races and their politics with something of a coming of age trial for the two main heroes. Wick and Archer face serious roadblocks and make some boneheaded mistakes (as people do), but the author does a wonderful job weaving it all together and keeping me invested. I enjoyed learning more about Archer’s past, and I was impressed how eight different races got touched on and included without feeling glossed over or simplified; there’s enough lore to appreciate the races’ differences without sacrificing the pacing. And I love Archer and Wick’s banter. Really looking forward to reading the finale in book three!

Such a fun continuation of Wick and Archer's stories! I loved seeing the way they developed throughout the book, and meeting new characters, and learning more about what the Scorch actually is. I can't wait to read book 3!
