Fairly decent read

I’ve read the first book before, so when I saw they were all out in this one, I jumped at the chance to re read it along with all the rest. It was good to get caught up as it’s been 3 years since I read the first. I really enjoyed the first one. It hooked me. As the reader we got to read multiple point of views that continued throughout all 4 books with the main focus on the female main character. As I read each one, I reviewed them separately on their own downloads as I believe it was important to capture my thoughts down after finishing.
To be honest. The female main character Asura, wasn’t my favorite. She only grew as a character in the last book and only after 60%. She was a mystery in the first one, but we got to read her struggles to survive in the human world before she was taken back to hell and sent to Soul reaper academy, where she had to look for her Hellhounds, her protectors. Her ex bestie did everything he could to cut her down, calling her a whore, taking his gf’s word that Asura bullied her when it was the exact opposite. Asura stood her ground and let Khazon treat her like crap. She didn’t want him around if he couldn’t understand that her leaving hell with no word wasn’t about him. She meets Ledger and Hazen who’s smitten with her, she meets Inarian, Jigsaw and Ryker. It takes awhile to get Inarian and Jigsaw on board with being her hellhounds and I didn’t really like how they spoke to her either. Although she threw her royalty power of demanding things like wanting them for her guard and then when they verbally accuse her of being a whore and never want a weak Soul Keeper as their master. It was a huge push and pull relationship. Not at all attractive. Asura turns into a whiney spoiled brat after her dad and little brother get murdered. She doesn’t want to be Queen, she doesn’t want the flame and f everyone telling her to buck up. The 3rd book kinda lost my interest. I finished it but her maturity level was not where it should be in a series. She had rime to come to terms with it but evil waits for no man or woman in this case. Thankfully the last book she decides to own up to this queen stuff and control the flame so she can save the human world and hell. She became more vulnerable with her men, Ozias, Khazon, and Ryker are new to her harem. They all are able to defeat the baddies. I did enjoy the twists in the book. Never would have guessed her dad had more children he never knew. I hated that Rune Hunt killed off an innocent 12 year old boy, Asuras cute and loving brother. We got to read many conversations she had with her dad while she was asleep as her dad’s soul was in the “Flame”. 99% of the time she was so angry at him and he just let her scream at him and basically stomp her feet. I wish that Fenric had been apart of those dream meetings. Maybe she would have realized that she needed to grow up. It would have made the 3rd book more enjoyable after Rune effectively stomped on my heart after he was murdered. I am glad they got their happily ever after and Asura forgave Inarian for taking money from her dad if he would be part of her hellound guard. Overall, I would rate this series 3.5 stars.
