Saylor Sanderson, quirky Seatle socialite, declares herself a "modern," and embarks on an Alaskan adventure to Anchorage, where she has secured a position at the Spruce Telephone Company. Can she acclimate to the crude wilderness surroundings of the new city, learn the rigors of switchboard technology, and immerse herself into the Switchboard Sisterhood of career women? Or, will her shoe-loving, shoe-shopping ways accidentally lead her to love?
June Marie Saxton is a new to me author and I really enjoyed this book. It is a fun light hearted romance. I mean how can you not love someone as happy, down to earth and kind as Saylor? I think her description of herself as an old-fashioned modern is right. I look forward to more stories by this author.
I have read all of her books and love everyone. She adds a freshness and innocence that makes a more relaxing read for me. Knowing June Marie personally let’s me hear her personality come through her writing. Love all her books!!!
Saylor comes across as flighty, lover of shoes not practicality whereas Andy is practical and completely smitten "his bachelorhood had definitely gone down in flames" after meeting Saylor. But as he is quoted in talking to Clementine that this reader, read before this book "Saylor is his flibbertigibbet and he loves her for it." Saylor does come off as smarter business woman and loves spoils her friends with clothes and shoes after marrying Andy in other books in the series like Roxy's and Clementine's stories and one other that this reader cannot recall the title.
Like this quote - “I’m certain he cannot afford her,” Ivy said. “But I’m equally certain he cannot afford to live without her,” James answered. “Her sincerity is uncanny, and her charm is unmatched.” Captain Barney overheard the conversation, answering, “And she draws people like flies to honey.”
I adore this book and the crazy whirlwind that is Saylor, she is quirky and impulsive, never stops chattering and is easily distracted by her musings, but she has a heart of gold and has some very smart suggestions....even if they are accidental! However, this should be book one, before Roxy and Sarah's books as this book is set before theirs and it gets quite confusing. So for example, Saylor is a large part of the support cast in Roxy's book (being Roxy's best friend) but in that book Roxy is already married and Clementine is already working at the exchange...which doesn't happen until the final chapter of this book. So if you have not yet started this lovely series then read this book - 3 first, then book 1, 2, 4, etc. I read this on Kindle Unlimited
Shoe shopping Seattle Socialite, not your typical orphan, Saylor embarks on an Alaskan Adventure to become a modern Roaring 20s Woman by working on the Switchboard at the Spruce Telephone Company. For Andy Ashton it was love at first sight. A whirlwind romance, the Lester Debacle and meese, Moose Track bakery, modern woman grandma with a fun secret resulted a comical page turning story. Delightful characters, twist and turn plot with a believable resolution.
It has been some time since I've read a story with so many clever, laugh out loud scenes. The characters, especially Saylor, were great. This was a fast-paced romance that I did not want to end. A great read.
What a fun story! I loved Saylor. Even though she was an heiress, she was so kind to everyone. Even people who would be considered lower class. And poor Andy. She had him tied in knots!
This was one of those stories you don’t want to end 💘
