A very honest and real personal essay collection on family, friendships, and love that it'll make you want to eat all the delicious food mentioned in it! It'll give you major cravings for a good cup of coffee, and you may end up adding the Philippines to your list of countries to visit! I related to so many things especially when I read the chapters about her family, the bond they have, and conversation on siblings her dad had with her and her siblings when they were kids! I could feel how important family is to the author, and that really resonated with me since I’m big on family and my family means everything to me too! Those chapters made me look forward to my next family gathering 😃
Homesickness - Granados talks about her struggles with being homesick when she moved to a different state and how she navigated that, and I needed that!! Where was this book when I was in college, rented an apartment 10 mins away from my university only to make the 1-hour commute back and forth almost every day because I was homesick 😅
This felt like I was sitting with my friend, listening to her talk, and I loved every minute of it. Some parts made me smile and others hit close to home. This will be going on my cozy book recs for sure!!
This was a rather different kind of story/essay collection in that it's a story about the author...told in a way that makes you think it's a one to one conversation. The heartwarming tales and recollections within spark emotion and thought with love and understanding at the centre of it all. This book highlights how struggles and misunderstandings can be helped and looked at under a new light, with love and patience, at times a splash of humor. The level of depth in which the author went into on a personal level took a lot of self understanding and a willingness to show others parts of herself to help them in struggles or situations they may be facing.
Shysel's collection of essays from over the years leaves you with renewed hope and a beaming smile on your face as you cherish all the love you've received, the family and friends that surround you and the growth you've experienced. These reflective stories are best paired with a cup of coffee and to be enjoyed again and again.
