Melinda Metz grew up in San Jose, California. People sometimes ask if she knows the way there. She kinda does, but she has an off-kilter sense of direction, so to be confident of arriving, it's better to consult some kind of navigational device.
Her mother tried to teach her to read in kindergarten, but Melinda had no interest. She also had no interest in learning to write her name. (FYI, when Melinda was in kindergarten it was all about finger-painting, play time, and naps.) Eventually, she mastered both and even majored in English at San Jose State University.
After college, Melinda moved to Manhattan to seek her fortune, which involved learning to identify fruits and vegetables while working at a grocery store, making $2.73 working backstage for an off-off Broadway play (her part of the box-office profits), and editing books.
Melinda and the lovely and talented Laura J. Burns pretty much became unofficial writing partners when they were editors at the same company. They teamed up to brainstorm story ideas, and at some point their brains fused in some key places. Later they worked on the Roswell High book series, Laura developing and editing the series, Melinda writing.
That series led to Melinda and Laura, now an official writing team, writing two TV pilots, moving to L.A. to work on the Roswell TV show, and briefly living in Toronto while on the writing staff of 1-800-Missing. They both continue to write books, together and separately.
Laura and Melinda's new book, Sanctuary Bay, a YA thriller, is coming out in January 2016. It's set at an ultra-exclusive private school on an island. Once a student is accepted to the school, they must stay until graduation. No visits home, no contact with the outside world at all. Find out why in January!
The first four books in Melinda's new middle-grade mystery series,S.M.A.R.T.S., are out now. The books involve a group of kids in a makerspace club and they all have lots of science info. For all the cool geeks out there!
Melinda lives in Concord, NC with her dog, Scully (yes, she loves the woo-woo so much she named her dog after a kickass X-Files character). She has never regretted learning to read and write her name.
For the first time in a long while I am reluctant to read the final book in a saga. I know that reading it will bring the story to a close and so will end my journey. Since finishing book six, I've been staring at book seven, wishing there were more.
In this installment we discover that even though Mercer, the "mystery stalker", was killed at the end of book five, the stalking still persists. It was pretty clear all along that there was more than one person after Rae, so this is really no big surprise, but now it seems unclear which stalker has been responsible for what bad deeds. As the harassment amps up, Rae is further ostracized by her peers when flyers about her mother's murder of her best friend are circulated throughout the school. This serves to drive yet another wedge in her relationship with Marcus. In the meantime, Anthony, having learned that Yana told Rae that she intentionally stole him away, confronts Yana about lying to him and they stop speaking.
Yana, now alone and convinced her father is intending to have her committed, pleads forgiveness from Rae and then enlists her help in the search for clues at the mental hospital where they met. While all this is going on, Rae continues to press Aiden Matthews, the man she met at the Wilton Center, for more info. There's even a budding romance between Mandy and Jesse.
As the story progresses, Marcus crumbles under the weight of Rae's history and the relationship dissolves; Yana learns she's a stone's thrown from being committed; Rae is working overtime to get information about the Wilton Center with the help of Jesse, Anthony and Yana; more crazy revelations are uncovered with respect to a government conspiracy; and Anthony and Rae begin drifting closer together and by the end of the book their romance is finally fully realized.
When the second stalker is revealed, it's not terribly shocking, I actually guessed who it was in book one, but I didn't care because the why had yet to be revealed. But when it is, it's an "oh my God" moment. I won't spoil it, but I will say that the end of the book brings everything to light and proves to be one of the best showdown finales EVER! It's creepy, it's scary and it's absurdly delicious.
There is so much going on in this book its hard to believe that it's at all cohesive. But it is, it absolutely is. Melinda Metz has created pure gold. This story entices you to keep flipping the pages, gripping the reader with thoughtful but simple prose and a myriad of exquisite subplots. It's impossible to step away from this book for even a second because once you think you've reached a lull, something grips you and you're dying to know what happens next. It's an absolutely stellar series and this book is no exception.
(Source: I own a copy of this book.) Once again someone is watching Rae, and threatening to kill her.
This was another okay story, and I was glad that we finally got to find out who had been threatening Rae! Yay! Rae continued to put herself in danger, she and Anthony were not friends after the whole getting back with Marcus thing, and Yana thought she was about to be sectioned herself. The storyline was okay, and I was glad that we finally got some answers. Once again Rae took her sweet time figuring stuff out, but we did get there eventually. It was fairly obvious who the killer was going to turn out to be though. The ending to this one was fairly decent because everything was wrapped up, and we got a happily ever after. What the next book is about I don’t know. Not sure this series needed another book though. Overall; okay, and we got some answers! 6.5 out of 10.
Revelations started out quite boring, but got better at the end.
Rae was quite stupid again in this one, but by this point, i didn't expect her to be anything else. At one point, someone was being really obvious with what they were trying to tell her, but it still took Rae a decent time to figure it out.
The ending was pretty good... but the culprit didn't shock me as much as it should have.
My suspicions from the beginning came true, but I won’t spoil them in this review. I really enjoyed this book more than the last one. We learned more about the Government Agency involvement. We also learn more about the next generation’s powers which was interesting.
I liked how the end of this book wrapped it up enough I feel like I don’t need to continue. Book seven of this series is really expensive (from everywhere I’ve looked) and probably because it is no longer being printed. I’ve read the blurb of the next book and I think I’ll leave Rae’s story exactly how it ended here.
If you like books with character who have special abilities and some mystery in it, this is a great fast read. The books are short and fast paced.
as a student reader, i was really interested in this book. with more and more coming, it just kept getting more and more interesting. its quite similar to horror and mystery so if your in to something like that, this is definitely the book to read. its one of those books that have so much going on but it all just makes it the more of interest. the more pages you flip, the better it gets. this book is really entertaining so if you enjoy reading in your spare time, this is definitely a recommendation. overall, one of the best books ive read.
Called the whodunnit in book two, but finally it was confirmed. There were a few pieces that finally clicked into place. It feels like the book series could have been wrapped up here, but they left the bad guy alive so I guess that’ll come up in book 7. I am gonna finish the last book so I’m hoping all the new plot given in book 7 is all wrapped up neatly in the end.
Wasn't as surprised by the crazy stalker reveal as I should have been but woah that was tense. Also glad that Rae has found decent and better friends now and that Anthony's gotten his head out of his ass.
This book is one of those books that has a lot going on but at the same time it keeps you interested. I found my reading experience to be one of frenzied obsession with finishing the story - I just had to keep turning the pages!
The simple prose makes it easy to digest the many subplots. But it's never boring because every time you reach a moment of downtime, something happens to grip you once again.
I really like Rae as a character. She's a determined young woman. She faces harassment at school and has to deal with a stalker in her personal life, yet she remains strong at a time when many would cower. At the end of the novel I found myself wanting to continue on to book 7. Now I just need to read books 1-5!

Other books in the Fingerprints Series: Gifted Touch Haunted Trust Me Secrets Betrayed Revelations Payback
I picked up this series secondhand and had a burst of reading through this series.
A great little paranormal mystery for YA's. Rae's ability to hear things through touch has screwed up her life making her an outcast in school. She finally agrees to attend a support group and things start to look up a little... and then someone tries to kill her.
Really glad I had the others in the series to read after this as this was a quick fix for me. Great suspense and action though and not too whiny a character.
A great ending to this book, I'd certainly pick up the next in the series if my tbr pile gets a little smaller first.
This is a young ault thriller. I enjoyed it. Didn't realize this was young adult, nor a book in a series. For being book 6 I wasn't lost as to what was going on. There is a group of kids that were made to be genetically born with a special power that doesnt come alive until they reach puberty. Each one is different. This one focused on the girl that was able to read minds thru touching finger prints. Someone is out to kill her because supposedly before her mother died, her mother had killed another woman that was a friend. I believe that the series continues. Would look into reading other books to this series.
This is the sixth book in the Fingerprints series. Theoretically, things should be getting better for Rae, but they're not. There's still the problem of her 'relationship' with Anthony, but there's a bigger problem as it seems she is going crazy since she keeps hearing thoughts in her mind that aren't from fingerprints.
She finally finds out who is doing that to her, and she finds out someone else who wants her dead, and can force her to hurt herself.
In addition, there is still the question of the people who shot Mercer and what they represent and if they still pose a danger to Rae or not, assuming she survives. The best way to sum this up is Et tu, Brute?
I loved all the drama in this one and how we finally get some answers. The last 3 chapters are definitely the best of the book... but the whole thing was very entertaining and made it hard for me to not finish it all in one day.
I thought this book was a good end to the series, but there is a book 7. I've read all six books in a row. I don't know if I have it in me to read book 7 right now. Altough these books are more like novellas, I'm growing tired of the characters. Overall, a good book.
Well, now that we know who's in charge and who's the bad guy I loved this book. It seems that everything is falling into place. I mean the happy couple, FINALLY, and we catch the bad guy sort of. I know that the final book will have nothing but good things. hopefully.
im not really surprised that it was yana i was kind of expecting that. hopefully in the next book they can recapture yana before she trys to kill rae again. im also happy that rae and anthony finally became a couple that took a really long time!!
I knew it what a bitch! I never liked her in the first place, and finally finally a bit of Rae/Anthony action! And what do you know it's not even the end yet still one more book to go!
