The novel entitled Bir Deliler Evinin Yalan Yanlış Anlatılan Kısa Tarihi (A Brief Inaccurately Told History of a Madhouse) by Ayfer Tunç astonishes the reader accustomed to the traditional novel presenting the life or a part of the life of a hero/ heroine by its stories about different characters narrated successively. The aim of this study, thus, is to discuss whether this novel which is different from the traditional novel and does not have the features of the modernist or post-modernist novel has the characteristics of the carnivalesque novel. At the end of our study, it has been seen that in this novel Tunç has used grotesque realism, grotesque body, material bodily principle, heteroglossia, polyphony, Menippean satire, the dualistic ambivalences of crowning/uncrowning, death/renewal, sanity/insanity, the images ofeating, drinking and banquet, and the fire element which were pointed out by Bakhtin as the characteristics of the carnivalesque novel. Therefore, we think that this novel may be regarded as one of the best examples of the carnivalesque novel in our literature.
