Me, Myself, & Lies: A Thought-Closet Makeover -Bible Study Workbook

Rate this book
Me, Myself, and Lies: A Thought Closet Makeover - Member Book by Jennifer Rothschild provides a personal study experience five days a week plus viewer guides for the group video sessions of this women's Bible study that encourages them to clean out the junk in their minds and replace hidden negative thoughts with positive truths from God's word.

Words are powerful. Especially the words women speak to themselves. All too often, what they say to themselves when they lie in bed at night or look in the mirror in the morning is not even close to the words God wants them to speak to their souls. According to Rothschild, what we think about often has a ripple effect on nearly every area of our lives. (7 sessions)

The Member Book includes:

6 weeks of personal interactive study (five days a week)

Jennifer Rothschild is a recovering perfectionist who has learned to live beyond limits ever since her life drastically changed at the age of fifteen, when she lost her sight. Now, more than 30 years later, she boldly and compassionately teaches women how to find contentment, walk with endurance, and celebrate the ordinary.

She's the author of ten books, including the best-selling Lessons I Learned in the Dark, Self Talk, Soul Talk, the popular Me, Myself and Lies Bible study, and her soon to be released, God Is Just Not Fair.

As a speaker, author and accomplished singer-songwriter she travels internationally, offering fresh, sensible, Biblical advice to audiences who, like her, are determined to pursue healthy and fulfilling lives in spite of their circumstances. She has shared her practical and inspiring messages to arena-sized audiences across the country, and media outlets including Dr. Phil, Good Morning America, Life Today, The Learning Channel and The Billy Graham Television Special.

Jennifer is an avid listener of audio books, a C.S. Lewis junkie, and has a weakness for dark chocolate and robust coffee. She and her Dr. Phil live in Springfield, Missouri, and have two sons Connor and Clayton and a lovely daughter-in-law, Caroline. When she is not traveling, Jennifer enjoys nature walks, and riding a bicycle built for two.

This is the very best and most effective Bible study-type book I've read so far. It is challenging without being abrasive. I'm already changing the way I think about myself.

It is pretty girly and sometimes silly in that way, but I found myself able to overlook that, which I usually don't.

Okay, so I discovered me and Mrs. Rothschild are not a good mix. I felt she twisted some scripture, but mostly I just didn't connect with her analogies. I enjoyed being with the ladies of the church, but I did not enjoy this book.

Going through this was harder than I thought it would be, but needed. This is for those who have negative self talk and believe lies they have made up or been told about themselves. This makes you face them and replace them with God's truth and how He sees you.

A thought-provoking study forcing women to really think about their inner monologue and how it impacts their relationships, and specifically how it can hinder their relationship with Christ. Rothschild reveals Biblical truths that show the negative voice in our head for the liar it is, and reminds us how God's love is always available to us and freely given.

At first I thought the closet metaphor seemed pretty hokey, but it allowed her to create some exercises that really helped me uncover the almost unconscious ways I speak to myself.

As with most Rothschild studies, I went in sceptical, thinking this sounded really oversimplified and gimmicky, but I came out having really learned some things about myself and my God.

Rothschild's book and accompanying video was quite enlightening. The beginning of the series of six weekly Bible study lessons starts by having readers investigate the negative thoughts within their "thought closets." These were difficult weeks filled with much negativity. She continues the next four weeks by teaching Biblical and practical methods for rebuilding healthier "thought closets."

Each daily lesson (five per week), takes about thirty minutes to complete and requires flipping through your Bible to read specific passages.

I first did this Bible study in 2015 and have since done at least a half a dozen times. It is the number one study I recommend to friend.
It is well laid out and helps one examine the cluttered thoughts that we allow to take up space and effect our overall world view, by changing the one thing we can change today...our thoughts.

Finally I found a workbook covering the topic of negative self-image as a Christian. Jennifer's sharing of her own story resonated with me completely. For anyone trying to combat that inner negative voice, these exercises will help bring the light of Jesus.

I finished this study last week. I had no idea of my negative destructive self talk or the damage it was doing to my soul. Thank you, Jennifer, for writing this.

The main purpose of the book is to teach us how to be more conscious of our thoughts so we can glorify God. It was a book for bible study and I wouldn't have finished the book if I didn't have a group to read it with. I found the author's voice and examples a bit irritating. I know she had good intentions, and I admire her life story, but the voice was annoying. The last 3 chapters picked up though, and I learned quite a few lessons on how to give my negative thoughts to God, so He can change my heart and renew my mind.

This is a six week video-based book study, although you don't need to watch the videos if you don't have access to them. This video-based study has the same content as the chapter book of the same name. The chapter book was written later and the content is rearranged so I would suggest not going through them at the same time as it can be a little confusing. The focus of the book is understanding why we usually think unkind thoughts toward ourselves and then changing our thoughts so that we start to remember how God thinks of us.

Great concept and had some good verses to fall back on, but was a very basic fill in the blank study. Was a bit cheesy at times and some of the anaolgies were a strech for me, but over all it was a good basic group study. Not a deep bible search kind of study but more of a self help.

The book itself was great - a lot of good information, I will forever think of my thought closet and what is in it.

I would of liked this more if I had had the DVD's to go with it.

Our Bible Study for this go around! Half-way through. Fabulous so far - very thought provoking and deep self-exploration . Love the analogy of our thought closet and cleaning it out.
Great study!!
