"We don't know what the future holds but we know who holds the future". I've been a Christian for awhile now, and had forgotten so many of the special moments and hard decisions that I had to make once I gave my life completely over to the Lord. It may sound funny sometimes when I try to explain my decision to surrender control of my life and give it over to the Master but I have no regrets. Please don't judge Nancy's book by its cover; this story is so much more intriguing than what you seen on the outside.
Nancy Moser quickly engaged me in this story of different people living life large and on their own terms. Nancy follows the lives of several people: William, who is a football player for the small town;Carrie, who is William Paulson's girlfriend; Maya Morano, who is out to be the number one sells person in her company at all costs; Maya's husband Sal, who loves his wife with all his life; Roman Paulson,Maya's boss and William's father, John Gillingham, a bestselling author and Velvet, his long lost love; Lianne Skala who finds herself with an unexpected pregnancy; Peter McLean, who is going to college because his parents hope he will take over the family's farm when he graduates. Everyone in this town is going about business as usual, until there is a fatal tragedy that affects everyone. People in that town start to think about what's important in life for the very first time. It may seem hokey to some about but how Nancy Moser describes the situation of how ONE person's life reaches so many, it made you think - I really believe we don't know how our lives affect others around us. Look how the life of Jesus affected the people back then and how He is still affecting people today.
It was good to be reminded of the meaning behind John 3:16 and how the characters lives are affected by that one simple, but powerful verse. Not everyone in that town is very excited to hear the message behind John 3:16 and Nancy shows that. Not everyone jumps up and down for joy because you became or are a follower of Jesus!! We are all called to do our part – to be a planter of the seed. It's God's job to water the seed until it ripens for the picking. I love how one of the characters reacts after hearing the message of the John 3:16, she says "You're talking mumbo jumbo…like it's magic. What do I have to do, say it 3 times while standing on my head and my life will be perfect?...Give me a break."
Nancy Moser's message is honest, sensitive, funny and entertaining. It's a great way to talk about our faith without being pushy. It's a great reminder (especially in these uncertain times – when everyone is filled with fear ) of who holds our future; no matter what we struggle with!
I have to tell you that some sections of this book cracked me up and reminded me of the movie "Evan Almighty". Remember when God was trying to get Evan's attention and get him to start building the ark? It seemed that everywhere Evan went, his eyes were opened to the signs and he could see things clearly for the first time. It was so funny!! Nancy has God nudgings in her book as well. It was great! It's comforting to know that God is at work around us whether we see him or not!
Christian or not, you will enjoy this story which talks about peoples' lives and the decisions they make that affect themselves and those around them. You will see how one life has affected so many. This ONE person gathered all the love notes that God sent him each day (not only in the bible, but in the beauty he saw around him) and passed that love on to others. It's a great comfort, reminder and story!! Don't pass it up!!

I had no idea I would enjoy this book as much as I did. The characters, the flow, the message throughout....it was all so well written. Nancy Moser must have a relationship with the Lord, because it shines through in her writing. This book spoke to me so very much, with the characters and the story Nancy told through them. The story that God can save even those who doubt Him the most. Putting this on my "to buy" list!!!!
This story is really about the power of God’s word, sharper than a double edge sword. With an ensemble cast larger than most novels, John 3:16 encompasses many lives and their intersection. What I loved about this book was even with many different and varying characters, they all played a part in each other’s lives. Some interaction was major, most minor, but each played a role in each other’s lives. You would think in a story with so many lead characters, it would become confusing, but I was never once. Each life has a different path and story to tell, but all are changed at one moment. When a John 3:16 sign is held up at a high school football game. What I loved the most about this story more than anything else, is the lesson that one life can make a huge difference. The story centers around one young man, who maybe has one or two leading scenes. After that is just how his friends and family see his life and how he was a witness for others. I greatly enjoyed this book. It was a fast paced novel, filled with twists and turns, lessons and one overpowering message: one life, one scripture reference, has the power to change a multitude of lives, if only they will obey.
his book wasn't what I thought it would be, but was great anyways. Based on the front and back covers I was expecting a story about a man who displayed the sign John 3:16 in the stands of a football games and the way it affected people who saw it. While a sign does get shown at a football game and peoples lives are changed, it just didn't happen the way I thought it was going too.[return][return]The book keep me wondering what was going to happen next and how the characters were going to find their way to Jesus. It was interesting to see how all the characters ended up somehow knowing each other at the end of the book while reading about their lives separetly.[return][return]I like how the book stressed the importance of prayer, living your life as God would want you to, and how to trust God with everything in your life. Overall I immensly enjoyed this book.
How does everything suddenly go from okay to despair? For so many people? Even our acting for the good of another, could cause despair in the lives of others.
Roman lives football vicariously through his son Billy (William). He isn't happy with Billy's choices.
Velvet's past choices collide with the present.
Lianne is faced with new choices.
Peter might not get a choice at all.
How much thought went into Maya's choices? An old friend changes Maya's thoughts to a new direction.
I neglect to tell why I give this a 2 star since I don't want to give away the story. Suffice it to say that fairy tales have similar endings. I don't find myself running back to this. Some romance but nothing gooey.
I've enjoyed this book. I really liked the way the characters were woven throughout the book. I am finding that life is very much that way.
I only had one complaint about the book. I had wished in the end that a situation hadn't changed...again...with one of the characters. I won't spoil it in case you want to read it...but sometimes I would like to see a very painful and difficult situation left with the healing of God...not with getting what we wanted in the first place. God is not a magic genie. Although he CAN do anything, he often tells us that he has a better way...one that we couldn't imagine. That being said, in this fictional book, I wish the author would have left it alone.
This book is "in your face" Christian and not ashamed of it. It's an interesting novel about a number of people whose lives are drastically changed. The big change doesn't take place until very late in the book--there is a whole lot of "lead-up" before that moment. It was a very moving story, but not a "downer." B+. 02/07/08
I really liked this book. There was no deep plot and no unexpected twists. In fact, most of the book was very predictable. But Nancy Moser did a great job with the characters and it was a great feel good book. If you want an easy read that will touch your heart and lift your spirits, then you can't go wrong with this book. Oh yeah, John 3:16 everybody.
This is one of the most inspiring books I have read in ages. When a tragedy occurs in a college town, the lives of many people are affected. Nancy Moser does a wonderful job of weaving these lives together towards a great ending. The Scripture John 3:16 is at the heart of why everything works out so well in the character's lives.
John 3:16 is a great book and it is especially great for young Christian believers whether your young by faith or young by age. I find this book uplifting and beautiful. It allows everyone to see God's beauty and love no matter what situation you are in. I would absolutely recommend this book, the storyline will keep you wanting to find out more!
I liked the book. I picked it up mostly because of the cover, so I really didn't know what I was going to get into, though I had some ideas given the title of the book. Some may say, Oh it was too Christian or whatever. Um, hello, look at the title. It may be a writing of fiction, but could easily be somebody's life. I would suggest it as a to be read, sooner than later.
Guess I should have guessed that something titled John 3:16 would be preachy! Most of the characters are missing "signs" from God. He is inviting them into a relationship and they are resistant. Ultimately, their circumstances lead them to accept Him, but I hate that mostly negative circumstances led these characters to the Lord.
This book has a HAPPY ENDING. I find stories about God making something wonderful out of our sin to be so encouraging. Probably because I so often fail Him. The book is somewhat hokey in places so I'm giving it only 3 stars.
Writing style wasn't incredibly smooth... but I really liked the journey. It's a story of allowing the promises of John 3:16 to change who we are... I liked it. Prompts you to look at your own life and ask the question... Do I really believe it?
This is a great book. It is wonderfully written, and moved me to tears. Moser wrote an enjoyable book that can touch anyone's lives. It evangelizes and entertains, all while presenting a story of heartbreak, guilt, fear, and redemption. I recommend it to anyone and everyone. :)
