I had to read this book for school. It was so boring. In the final chapters, I just read the words without even wanting to understand it. I just wanted it to be done. The least I can say is "not my cup of tea"

This is the best book I've read. Sounds exaggerated but it is.
The way Merlin is portrayed; not as a magician but as a man with deep understanding of people.
The way Arthur is portrayed; no softie but a good heart for people.
All characters are so genuine - this is what you should read about knights and kings

Ondanks dat het een ouder boek is, vond ik het niet gedateerd, ook niet qua schrijfstijl. Dat heeft waarschijnlijk ook te maken met de tijd waarin het verhaal speelt, daarbij past al te modern taalgebruik toch minder goed.
Hoewel ik het verhaal dan Koning Arthur meende te kennen, was dit boek voor mij toch verrassend. Blijkbaar ben ik nogal opgegroeid met de Disney-versie...

Ik verwachtte eigenlijk niets van dit boek: het was een opdracht van mijn cursus wereldliteratuur om een Arthurverhaal te lezen. Het hele 'ridders en kastelen'-genre trekt me niet zo, dus ik had niet echt zin in dit boek. Het is me echter alles meegevallen! Het is leuk en meeslepend geschreven en een behoorlijk spannend boek. Voor jongere lezers (12-16) zeker een aanrader.
