For as long as she can remember, Rose Galway has been a captive, controlled by one man or another. To her, though, God is the one holding the keys, refusing to set her free despite the desperate pleas she has sent heavenward. Detective Laken Jones has known hardship too, including the daily trauma of racism. Still, nothing he has gone through compares to what Rose has endured. He wants nothing more than for her to experience hope and healing and maybe even happiness in her life. But first he has to find her. Laken is willing to risk everything to set Rose free. And to help her find her way to God. Even if that means letting go of her—and the future he envisions for the two of them—forever.

I loved this book. It is about a hard subject, sex trafficking. This book does have a happy ending for some of the characters but not so for others. As a reader I can say I am glad at the outcome of some of the players but as a Christian I am glad these characters are fictional. But which this story could be true somewhere. This story and the first book could be triggers for some. I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.
This story gripped my attention from the start. It would be best to begin with Every Star in the Sky in this series as it follows 3 foster sisters. Rose, who has been trafficked like Tala for 8 years, is locked alone in a room, and it's quite a death or life situation when Laken, a detective, finds her. This is an intense story with romance, danger, and some surprising twists. The plot was wonderful, and the characters were well-developed and relatable. The author addresses the topic of trafficking, a reality in today's society that needs to be a wake-up call for all of us.
Another wonderful hope-filled story by Sara Davison! This is the 2nd book in the Two Sparrows for a Penny series. I'd recommend reading them in order, but this one can stand alone if you have the opportunity to read this one prior to the first book. However, there are some spoilers in this book for book 1, so be mindful of that if you read them out of order. This series follows 3 foster sisters and their story 8 years after they left their foster home. The first book was about Tala/Starr and this one is about Rose. Shortly after the events of book 1 conclude, Rose finds herself locked in and abandoned at the house where she has been kept. Unbeknownst to her, Detective Laken Jones has been scouring the streets of Toronto looking for her after Tala learned that she was still alive. The situation he finds her in is dire, life and death. This book had a lot of intense suspense moments, a good deal of action and times when I couldn't fathom how things would resolve. There was also a sweet romance, a solid faith thread and emotional depth. It was also good to "catch up" with Tala and Cole and see how they have been doing. Because this book (and series) is about victims of human trafficking, I'll warn that there may be some triggering instances for readers who have faced similar traumas. No graphic details are included, but the emotional trauma is well laid-out and is eye opening. The author handles it well and I appreciate how she surrounds the victims in her books with people who can aid in their healing, as well as faith in God and nothing is sugar-coated. And though the subject matter is a heavy one, Ms. Davison infuses her stories with hope. I enjoyed the little ways that Rose was able to find hope and joy and the point where she realized that God had not abandoned her after all. This was a beautiful faith-filled story that brings light to some of the dark places in our world. I would definitely recommend to fans of inspirational romantic suspense and those who wish to learn more about human trafficking and the toll it brings. Special thanks to the author for an advance e-copy of this novel. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.
Another compelling read as Sara Davison continues her Two Pennies for a Sparrow trilogy with book 2. This one follows foster sister #2 - Rose - as the police attempt to rescue her from the sex trade. Although dark due to themes, the story is told well and with understanding. I love the fact that there are never promises of easy if/when Rose escapes and that learning to trust God and others takes time and work.
Can he take the shot to save the woman he loves? He faltered once before and it haunted him. In this nail-biting thriller, Sara Davison keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. I couldn't put it down.
Sara addresses the difficult topic of human trafficking with compassion. She reveals that physical freedom is just the beginning of healing.
There is so much I loved about this book that I’m not sure I can express it in a few paragraphs. The topic of the story is a hard one to read about but is very much in the news. Human trafficking is difficult to comprehend and the author does an exceptional job of giving readers a realistic look at what it is like. To think that someone could be snatched off the street and treated so horrific makes me cry.
I loved Rose and how strong she is. Being captive for years and still she holds on with this deep hope that someday she will be free. The story is riveting when a rescue is made and I loved how the author kept me on the edge of my seat. The danger Rose was in was explosive and at times I wasn’t sure if she would survive. She has been through so much torture and emotional mind games, yet she has this strength that impresses me. Perhaps she is angry with God right now, but there are people surrounding her that will be able to encourage her to trust God and rekindle her relationship with Him.
Laken is a detective that is on scene when Rose is discovered locked in a room with explosives just outside the door. What I liked about him was how he stayed right outside the door and reassured Rose that he was not going anywhere till she was safe. You can feel his inner turmoil as he tries to comfort Rose. He know the danger that she faces but he will not give up.
I loved how this story shows how important it is to help others, reach out when you need support and never give up. Laken is not afraid to show his faith and when he calls out to God to protect Rose I could almost hear his voice crack. Laken believes that God is merciful and forgiving. He is determined that Rose will finally be able to feel safe but he still needs to catch one more person that was involved.
The story is an adrenaline rush as Rose is once again taken away by one of the men who has held her captive. She thought she was safe at a house where a police officer lived but this nan is devious and convinces Rose to go with him . He uses her compassion for the other girls he has to get her to walk away from those who were protecting her. It is a race to find her as Laken is losing it. He was so sure she was safe but Rose leaves to protect the others that are being held.
The ending is good and we see how Rose starts to turn to God for help. It will take her time to heal but first she needs to know that she is free from torment. God never left her and each day she will heal a bit more. There is an attraction between Rose and Laken but they both know they need to take it slow. Emotional healing will come as Rose releases the pain she has gone through and learn to trust God. She is finally free and can once again see the beauty in the flowers and butterflies that God has created.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
"Tag and their dad must have somehow managed to instill in Rose a belief that men could be good, that they could treat women with love and respect, cherish them the way they deserved to be cherished. A belief that, even if it had been buried deep under the unspeakable traumas she had endured under Brady and Van, had somehow, like a bulb pushed beneath inches of soil, survived the cold and dark. Now, like the wildflowers she loved so much, it was rising, breaking through rough ground to reach for the warmth and sunlight."
Can someone ever really recover from trauma? Especially years of abuse and torture. In this "Two Sparrows for a Penny" series, Sara Davison tackles the tough topic of trafficking with caution and hope. She does not gloss the pain that the women would go through in these circumstances. Instead she presents a story that could be lived out for those who need to move past the horror.
This is the story of Rose. Telling too much about the circumstances behind why she has been stuck in this trafficking cycle will give too much of the story away. She is portrayed as a woman who was victimized who can now find her way forward through the support of faith, family and friends. Enough is mentioned about her circumstances that the reader will feel the horror without knowing the details. Sympathy results as this causes a better understanding of what life would be like for those who are held against their will in sacrificing themselves for others.
Because of the topic, there could be triggers for those who have found themselves forcibly hurt by the actions of others against themselves. The story ends with hope but without all of the details wrapped up. Healing takes time. There is plenty of suspense in this title as there is danger involved. Rather than feeling discouraged, I felt inspired at the end of this title as I was reminded that we can make a difference in the lives of others.
This book is the sequel to "Every Star in the Sky." Characters are connected to both books, so I recommend reading that one first, but one could still follow along with this plot. Actually the author connected this book to characters in her "Night Guardians" series which added another fun part to the story for me since I am a fan of this author's books.
In the author's note at the end, the author explains more about how she feels God is still with those even in tragic circumstances. A call to action is also provided. While we may not have the ability or resources to rescue others, we can pray. We can also be more aware and speak up to the proper people if we expect others are trapped in circumstances beyond their control. Organizations are recommended where the readers can get involved.
This is such a fast-paced novel. It’s amazing. Don’t get me wrong, it covers some hard things. It covers some really hard topics. This entire series does. But they’re so good. So good. I couldn’t put them down. I’ve read all the minis, the novellas, and the novels. All of them. The entire series, well except for those that aren’t released. Those that I’m going to need ASAP please because I really need to know what happens to everyone else. Jae is still out there.
LET ME BE FRANK HERE. I would not let a younger teenager read this series. You might, but that’s up to you. There is suggestion in it, but not out and out description. There is a reference to bad words but ** is used instead. Let’s keep being frank here. It’s about women, and girls, who are trafficked. Kidnapped and trafficked as prostitutes. There’s no gentle way to write a novel about this. There is blood and there is death and there’s even a house explosion.
DON’T LET THIS SCARE YOU AWAY FROM THE NOVEL OR THE SERIES THOUGH. It is amazingly well written. This author can do amazing things with her pen. You get the story and the heartache and the questions and the struggles. I really felt like I was there and could understand what these girls are going through, even though there is no way that I actually can.
Please do yourself a favor and read the series as it should be. Read the novels and short stories in order. Some of the stories are within collections of novellas. But reading them in order gives you the back story of the characters. Please don’t just pick up this one. Yes, it would make sense but you’d be missing so much. I don’t think you could get the full picture or the entire story. I truly think you’d miss out on parts that are pivotal. Or at least they were to me.
THIS STORY REVOLVES AROUND ROSE AND LAKEN. They’ve never met until he shows up at the house she’s being held hostage and tries to rescue her. But he knows who she is. And he knows a lot of her story while he is a complete stranger to him. As the story progresses so does their story together.
I can’t share too much without giving away details but do know that rescuing her(which he doesn’t get her out of the house) and keeping her safe takes over a lot of the story and will keep you on the edge of your seat!
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received through Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
Interrupt me at your own risk! READING TIL FINISHED!!
WOW ~ I honestly cannot find words to describe how WOW this book is ~ and I literally started it and did not want to put it down as I had to find out what happens to Rose and the others in this book.
This book Every Flower of the Field is book two of the series Two Sparrows for a Penny. The first book, Every Star in the Sky, had me from the word go and I can say the same for this one. I literally cannot find the words to this review as the book is just that good ~ (in my opinion) . . . . I thought the first book was good but this one goes above and beyond as it focuses on Rose who feels all alone as she is held captive wondering if anyone will ever come and save her. “Can anyone hear me?” “Will anyone find me?” “God are you still there?”
Enter Laken Jones a detective who wants to help her and bring her to safety but they must escape her captor first. Can Detective Jones and others keep Rose safe from her captors? Can Rose trust Laken? God are you there?
There were so many twists and turns a I wondered what was going to happen to Rose. Will she ever feel safe? would it be okay in the end? It was a nonstop journey all the way to the end.
WOW!! I could not put this book down – I was so wrapped up in Rose’s story and wondering what was going to happen next. I did not want this book to end – and am anxiously awaiting book three to continue the story of the three friends girls who were taken and sold while two of them were lost but then found. But what has happened to their third friend? This book really had it all with action and suspense as well as amazing journeys of freedom and faith all of the characters experienced. Working together as one to make it all good in the end.
This is one of the best books that I have ever read and I highly recommend this book ~ just make sure you have plenty of time carved out of your schedule to read as once you start you will not want to stop this book til the very last page.
I want to say thank you to the author, Sara Davison, for an e-copy of this book. I received no compensation and the opinion in this review is mine and mine alone
The description of the book starts with “Safe is the most dangerous feeling of all.” That is a chilling thought. You ask yourself how could feeling safe be dangerous. As you get into the story, you start to realize exactly why Rose thinks that way. Her life experiences have proven it to be true. Laken is a detective working on a task force to combat human trafficking. He wants to find Rose and get her to safety. Their first encounter occurs in highly unusual circumstances. Rose has been held captive since being kidnapped eight years earlier. She has been coerced, threatened, beaten, brainwashed, and worse as her captor forced her into a life she never chose, nor ever would have considered for herself. The many ordeals she has survived have taught her that she cannot trust men because they only want one thing. Laken has two things that give him hope when he located where Rose was being held. First, his best friend Cole had rescued Rose’s sister some months earlier. Second, his faith in God held him steady and on task. Will he be able to rescue her? If he does, is there anywhere that she can go where she will be safe from the predators who will assuredly come searching for her? Can she ever achieve even a semblance of peace and trust in order to resume a normal life after being used and abused for so long? These are among the issues that must be faced by anyone who has been trapped into human trafficking. This and other stories like it should be a wake-up call to all of us. Human trafficking is alive and thriving all over the world and we seldom hear a thing about it. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
Writing a novel about sex trafficking would be a difficult task—but turn it into a romance, and it becomes very challenging. That is exactly what Sara Davison did with her book Every Flower in the Field—the sequel to Every Star in the Sky. This is Book 2 of her Two Sparrows for a Penny Series. I’m assuming there will be a third book, since there is still one kidnapped foster sister at large, and Davison set the stage for Jae’s story in this one.
I can’t imagine delving into the subject of sex trafficking, especially when writing for the Christian market where everything needs to be squeaky clean. It’s probably not terribly realistic, but it does make for a good story.
Every Flower in the Field started off with a bang—literally. There was a lot of tension, which Davison did a great job of stringing out—and I quickly connected with both Laken and Rose—our main characters. I struggled some with “coincidences” and this one had a few (which I won’t delve into, because it could ruin the story for future readers). I will say that the layout of the three books (if Davison continues with a Book 3) really did require these coincidences to make it work, however.
This book, and the previous one, reminds me that we live in a world where there are victims of truly evil people every day. This may be a fictional story, but I have no doubt it’s just barely touching the surface of what really happens. Rarely does it turn out as well as it does for Davison’s characters, which touches my heart and makes me want to stand in the fight.
If you like action, suspense, with a side of romance, you’ll thoroughly enjoy Every Flower in the Field.
Every Flower of the Field by author Sara Davison is a powerful Christian contemporary romance suspense novel. While this is the second book in her Two Sparrows for a Penny series, it works well as a standalone. I would advise reading Book One, Every Star in the Sky.
This is the story of Rose Galway. Rose has been a victim of human trafficking. With this subject matter, I knew the book would be intense. Wow, was it ever. This is a subject that has been in the news often. My heart hurts for those subjected to this horrific life. I get angry every time I think this is happening. I was immediately invested in the story and its characters, especially Rose.
Rose is a strong woman. She has held on to the hope that one day she will be rescued. The danger she is in was written in a way that made me feel anxious for her. My emotions ran all over the place reading this exceptional novel. Laken is a detective working when she is found. I loved this character and his faith.
The author has an inviting style. I love that she includes the perfect amount of faith, romance, danger, and hope. She does not gloss over the gritty issues of today’s world but writes them from a Christian perspective. Her descriptive and in-depth prose make the words come alive for readers. This book is a suspenseful page turner.
I highly recommend Every Flower of the Field. This would be a great read for book clubs. With the complex issues it presents, there is so much to discuss. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit but these are my honest words.
Sara Davision has become one of my favorite authors of Romantic Suspense novels. Every Flower of the Field by Sara Davison is Book 2 in the new Two Sparrows for Penny series. I had the honor of reading Book 1 in this series and was anxiously awaiting Book 2.
Rose Galway has been held captive for many years and controlled by a few different men. She feels that God has not listened to her Prayers and Pleas to set her FREE and she is losing hope. Detective Laken Jones is wanting to find her and help set her FREE. He has experienced so many different adverse issues in life, but he knows his issues do not compare to Rose's situation. He wants to rescue her and help her find HOPE, especially hope in God. Det. Jones may have to risk everything to help her, maybe even the dreams of FOREVER. Will Det. Jones find Rose and rescue her? Will they find a life of happiness?
WOW, I was intrigued by the storyline from the very first chapter. Rose only wants to be set FREE from the guys who captured her and have tortured her for so many years. Det. Laken Jones is a very caring and courageous Detective and man. I truly LOVE that he is willing to put his life at risk to bring Rose to safety. Det. Laken Jones has a strong faith in God and that is what Rose needs also. The book is one about Trust and Faith, relying on God. The author did a GREAT job at addressing the Sex trafficking issue in a sensitive way. I really enjoyed the book very much and the message in the book is powerful. I am already looking forward to future books in this series. FANTASTIC BOOK!
Every Flower of the Field is book two in the Two Sparrows and a Penny series that is written by Sara Davison. I would suggest reading the books in order so that you can grasp the whole story within the series. If you choose to read as a stand alone, there are some spoilers from book one in this book. However, this book will capture your attention within the first few pages. The author has done a wonderful job in bringing broken, scary topics (ie: Human Trafficking) and having God's Glory shine through.
Rose Galway has been a captive for several years. She has cried out to God many times and does not understand why he will not answer her. She holds on to the hope that someday she will be free and have no man controlling or hurting her. Tala, who has escaped and found out that Rose is alive has had Detective Laken Jones looking for Rose. He has a lot of issues in his past. However, when he finds Rose in a do or die situation I love that he puts himself in harms way to let her know he will stay with her until she is safe.
This book had my adrenaline pumping so many times throughout. The author has done a great job in throwing in so many suspense filled scenes that you will not want to stop reading. I cannot wait until we get to read the next story.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this book, all thoughts are my own.
Wow! Just wow! Every Flower in the Field was jam-packed with action and suspense. So much so, I had to remind myself to breathe. Davison is skilled at taking you to the edge of your seat and making you think characters are safe only to drop them in the middle of danger all over again. The author also kept me guessing with unexpected twists like multiple safe houses and secret subway tunnels.
The plot isn’t the only thing that shines in Davison’s novel. I was completely swept up in Rose’s story. Amazed by her courage and determination, she wasn’t merely a victim but a friend I rooted for and even found myself yelling warnings to when she was lured back to a perilous situation to rescue the girls left behind. Davison’s hero isn’t to be ignored either. Laken is the strong, protective type whose sense of honor and resolve bid him to stop at nothing to make sure Rose is safe. That kind of hero always makes me swoon.
Trigger warnings should be noted for sex trafficking and sexual abuse, but the author handles these tough topics with truth, respect, and hope for survivors. Every Flower in the Field is the second book in the Two Sparrows for a Penny series. Although it can be read as a stand-alone, I recommend reading them in order as some characters are connected.
I received a free copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own and I was not required to leave a positive review.
There are no words to describe this book—it’s that Good. The tension began right from the start as I met Rose locked in a dark room with no way to escape. I was plotting in my head how she was going to get out. It wasn’t long before her fear and despair became my own. Enter Laken, a detective determined to find her no matter what the cost. He isn’t sure why he’s so invested in the case of a woman he’s never met, but he’s not giving up. The first time they meet is through a door. With danger all around he’s not about to leave her here alone. He’ll protect her with his life if he has to. Again, no words to say how good this book is. Rose has one chance at freedom and it’s talking to her from the other side of that door. The small hope building within her at the sound of his voice had my heart beating the same rhythm. With danger chasing her heels, trauma prodding her psyche, Laken may be the only one who can keep her safe. It certainly won’t be God. Or will it? Sara knows how to tackle tough subjects, giving the victims dignity while writing just enough detail to anchor the story. She doesn’t sensationalize but writes authentically moving stories. I absolutely loved this book and will definitely read the next one. I was given a copy courtesy of the author through Interviews and Reviews. This is my honest opinion.
The first book in this series, Two Sparrows for a Penny, Every Star in the Sky, was a book I had thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend reading before this one, as you will be able to understand more about the situation going on, especially at the start of the novel. While I liked Every Star in the Sky, I found this book, Every Flower of the Field, to be more engaging. I needed to know what was going to happen to next and if and how Rose was going to be saved.
I loved each of the characters of this novel. Laken is kind, patient, understanding, and will stop at nothing to ensure Rose’s safety. He feels it is his duty to protect her and will prevent her from harm, no matter the cost.
Rose is strong and resilient, refusing to let what happened to her to break her. However, she also has a sweet and gentle soul. Which makes what she goes through all the more heartbreaking.
As this book deals with human trafficking, the story could trigger some. However, Davison’s story brings to light a terrible reality and while she does veil some of the horrible things Rose endured, she also does not sugarcoat.
I would highly recommend this novel. Not only is it engaging, with lovable characters, a suspenseful plot line, and themes of faith, but it also brings attention to a very unfortunate reality that needs more attention.
Every Flower Of The Field may be only the second book in the Two Sparrows For A Penny series but I have become so invested in the fictional lives of Sara Davison's characters that not reading it wasn't even in the realm of possibility. I had to read Rose's story.
I was not disappointed by Every Flower Of The Field. It had all of the suspense and slow romance of its predecessor, but, also like book one, the emotional depth of Rose's journey from unimaginable abuse towards healing is actually the key element of the story.
Author Sara Davison has been skillfully using the medium of fiction to raise awareness of one of humanity's greatest tragedies. Human trafficking is as old as time but the numbers today are unprecedented and people have never been so determined to pretend that it couldn't exist in our enlightened modern society. The Two Sparrows For A Penny series has been drawing that curtain back to reveal the harsh reality of human trafficking while reminding everyone that hope and healing are possible.
Every Flower Of The Field isn't always easy to read but it is still a good read. It tugs at the heart and leaves you anticipating Sara Davison's next Two Sparrows For A Penny book...
(I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)
While Every Flower of the Field contains triggers for some - sex trafficking, I have enjoyed getting to know the characters in the series (book the 2 books and the novellas which are in anthologies). Sara Davison creates believable characters - ones the reader will care about. Every Flower of the Field focuses on Rose who has been locked alone in a house owned by her handler without food. In spite of the life she has lived the previous 8 years, Rose has a soft caring heart when it comes to the weak. Rose was introduced in a previous story. Detective Laken Jones is also a character who was previously introduced. His dedication to the Lord and his care for people is very evident throughout the story. Even if you haven’t read the previous books/novellas, Davison tells the story in such a way that readers will not feel like they are missing information. I look forward to seeing how the story of these characters progresses in future books in the Two Sparrows for a Penny series. Because of the content of Every Flower of the Field the book is definitely for adults. I would not place it in a K-12 Christian school library. I received a complimentary copy of Every Flower of the Field. This is my honest review.
Every Flower of the Field is the second book I have read by Sara Davison, so I was excited to see what she had in store for me with this one. Admittedly, I wondered how the cover art and title tied to the story since it wasn’t immediately clear. However, I learned that with the first book, Sara ties everything together quite nicely, so I trusted and rightly so because both fit perfectly!
Truthfully, I was a little hesitant to read this book since it was the second in the series, but I loved Sara’s book, Written in Ink, so much, which was also not the first book in the series, that I went for it. It turns out it was a great standalone book, so I did not have to catch up on the characters. Sara did a fantastic job weaving in enough backstory to keep me engaged with the characters.
The story itself was a bit intense, as were the portrayed characters. As shared by the author, “Rose Galway has been a captive, controlled by one man or another.” Rose was a victim of sex trafficking. Detective Laken Jones was on a quest to save Rose, even if it meant risking his own life. The two form a bond and, despite life's traumas, feel safe with each other.
Everything Rose has done to keep herself alive during captivity causes her to feel broken and unworthy of a stronger connection with Laken or any man now that she is free.
The writing is intense from the book's opening to the end. There are plenty of twists and turns that, as a reader, cause you to hold your breath, nearly cry, or even yell at the book. Okay, I only screamed once, but that character deserved it.
To say this book is filled with suspense would be an understatement. Sara had me on the edge of my seat for most of the read, as in the previous book!
If you are interested in reading romantic suspense from a Christian perspective covering complex topics that are relevant and timely today, this book is a good choice. Sara does not skirt the issues and isn’t afraid to share God moments in a meaningful, non-preachy way.
I highly recommend Every Flower of the Field. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
Note: I reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received through Celebrate Lit. I was not required to write a positive review or be compensated for sharing my thoughts. I am disclosing this per FTC regulations.
Every Flower of the Field by Sara Davison is a work of romantic suspense. With a group of ladies who have been held captive for 8 years and a detective determined to keep her safe, this book kept me reading. Rose Galway has been held captive by one man or another for as long as she can remember. Detective Laken Jones has known some hardship, but nothing like Rose.
When he sets out to rescue her, he wants to allow her to experience hope and healing in her life. The dynamics of this story and the pace at which the author allows things to happen kept me interested. I loved the development of the characters as well. This story’s exploration of faith, hope, and love provides the perfect balance.
With human trafficking and more, this book should possibly be avoided by those who find those topics difficult to read. If you enjoy works of Christian romantic suspense, I suggest you check out Every Flower of the Field by Sara Davison yourself. I definitely recommend it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
Every Flower of the Field (book 2 in the series) is excellently crafted, realistic, and emotionally evocative. Davison plunges deeply into the hearts and minds of her characters through a great plot, expertly exposing the spiritual status of each—always of interest to me as a reader of theologically resonant fiction. I especially appreciate Davison’s development of the traumatized women she introduces to us, gaining reader trust through the way these characters come to trust those they love, who properly love them.
Davison’s two sparrows for a penny series is edgy, dealing as it does with human trafficking and including some violence and inferred sexual intimacy (though clean and closed door). This makes the novels attractive to potential readers possibly skittish about religious themes, showing how a relationship with Jesus Christ is available to all who would come, no matter their condition.
Buried under that deep trauma a fragile bulb was pushing its way out of the dark. Could it possibly reach the warmth and the sunlight?
Rose Galway is alone - not a place she wants to be. Trafficked since she was 17 years old, she questions if God even cares about her. That is when she actually makes the attempt to delve into her feelings. Getting away means living in fear that she will be found and never be free.
Reading this story of human trafficking makes one wonder how anyone could survive and perhaps even live again. This horror affects the most inner being of a person. If God is there with them, caring for them and never leaving them….where are His hands and feet? The ones that are ready and willing to get them out of this nightmare?
A copy of Two Sparrows for a Penny # 2 was received through Three Dreamers Press, BookFunnel and CelebrateLit. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.
Every Flower of the Field is the second installment from Sara Davison's Two Sparrows for a Penny series. I really enjoyed the first book, Every Star in the Sky, and enjoyed this one even more. I believe since this is a series, it would be best to read it in order, but readers can get enough information from this one to be able to read it as a stand alone. This time around, readers give goes on a thrilling ride with Rose and Laken. The suspense kept me engaged that made me want to keep reading on until the end. I am giving Every Flower of the Field four and a half stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean Romantic Suspense. I look forward to the next book from the Two Sparrows for a Penny series to see what adventure awaits. I received a digital copy of Every Flower of the Field from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
This novel is not a light one. While it is engaging, it deals with the serious issue of the rescue and recovery from years of having been brutally trafficked. It is well written with emphasis given to the thoughts and feelings of the woman experiencing recovery and the man who rescued her and cares deeply for her welfare. There are good doses of suspense too as the villain does not give up easily.
This novel really portrays the journey of healing from sexual abuse and being trafficked. There are the nightmares and the terror, real or imagined. Davison also shows the restoration that can come from trusting God along with the trusting the actions of a godly man.
Dealing with this serious issue, the novel may contain trigger scenes for those having endured similar experiences. Nonetheless, it is a touching novel written in an engaging manner.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Another gripping read by Davison that combines a genuinely victimized woman's struggle to recover from the trauma of sex trafficking, and the cop who would rescue her. I liked the contrast of their struggles, especially the realistic way Rose makes progress and then regresses. Fear truly can play games with us that way. Officer Laken at times seems too good to be true, respecting Rose's need to heal slowly, but even he falters occasionally. If anything, I suspect few men, even good, faithful men, would be that cautious of a woman's feelings and that in touch with their own. But that's just my 2 cents. I enjoy books set in less common places like Canada. This one's a slow-burn romance punctuated by tight suspense caused by the creepiest of villains. And there's hope for yet a third book in this series because one of the other trafficked girls makes a mysterious "guest appearance" right when she's needed for a fantastic rescue, then disappears again. We must know what happens to Jae!
This works as a stand alone, but it's best in the series. Eight years after three foster sisters left that foster home, we get to see what's happening in their lives. This book focused on Rose, one of the three former foster sisters. She's been a captive, she been abused, she's been through so much! Now that she's physically free, can she heal? Can she overcome the chains in her soul and spirit? Can she have a life with a man she trusts and really trust God after how shattered she's been?
While it's not graphic or anything like that, this author did a stunning job of showing the trauma and emotions, and showing us how strong faith and healing can be, while including suspense, romance and a strong story.
Thanks to Celebrate Lit for my digital copy of this very moving story. This reivew is my own and a positive review is never required.
She is forced to become a prostitute When ever she does not do what he wants, he threatens another woman and she does what he wants. And then he tells her it will all go kaboom! And he disappears. Fortunately a police officer is looking for her — and sees the bomb. This book — as always Sara Davison writes a book that grabs and holds on until the end! And as always, God’s love creeps in! LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK!!! I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and comments are my own.
This was a hard-to-put-down story but also a hard-to-read story. Despite the darkness, though, hope shines the light of God's love over and around the characters' desperate circumstances. I've read most of the other stories in this series, and I applaud (and appreciate) Sara's sensitivity and respect for those who've endured such horror. She doesn't manipulate her readers' emotions; neither does she drag us through the gutter. Multiple motifs add depth to the characters' spiritual and emotional journeys. Highly recommend.
It was moving and gripping. I enjoyed this story. It’s definitely one that portrays the plight of women caught in the sex trade. Even with all the hard topics there was some romance. I appreciated the strong Christian influences of this story. I think I received this book from the author but all these opinions are mine.
