Her family owns the whole town, but he owns her heart.

If you ask Morgan Conrad, Cole Sutton takes himself way too seriously. He always has. And she has no problem complaining about him to anyone who will listen.

But for ten years, she’s managed to keep quiet about a few things, at least. The summer afternoons they once spent lying on the forest floor, talking and arguing, and the furtive notes passed to each other through crowded school hallways.

And she’s never told a soul about that very last night that tore them apart forever.

She was his wild girl. There’s never been anyone like her.

When Cole Sutton is given a chance at the music career he’s always dreamed of, he realizes leaving Lake Conrad will mean breaking a vow he swore to keep.

But is it really wrong to break a promise to the one who broke your heart?

Cole’s no longer that same overly emotional teenager, so there’s no way he’ll get lost in those wild green eyes again. But when he’s reunited with Morgan under a bright starry sky, it seems, despite their best efforts, nothing has really changed….

Fault is the third book in the Lake Conrad series by Emily North. Featuring a free-spirited heroine and a sensitive, artistic love interest taking a steamy second chance at love, it can be enjoyed as a standalone or as part of this interlocking series of small-town romance novels.

This is my first story from Emily north . Although the writing is in 3rd person and I struggled with it, it was still a really good story . Even though it's book 3 it can be read as a standalone . I do love morgan and cole they are so well written and go so good together !!!

I'm on the fence about this book or maybe it was because it was the first book I read by Emily North..

The plot of the good had potential to be really great, I mean who doesn't love an angsty second chance romance? However, it was poorly done and rushed. I was at 80% of the book and I felt like we hadn't made any progress with their relationship. I felt like she was dwelling to much on the past and not enough on the present. I would say about 75% of the book was spent on the past but with no answers. We didn't get to find out what happened until 90% of the book was read.

Another thing that really bothered me was how the author was going back and forth between 1st person and 3rd person point of views. I almost felt like I was reading a play rather then a book and had to constantly see whos chapter I was reading.

Now for the reason behind my rating.. I would actually give the book 3.5 stars but they only allow for whole stars so I rounded up. The reason why I didnt give it below 3 stars is because like I said, this book and potentially her other books have potential to be really great IF she flowed her writing better. There were times where I was putting down the book to try and connect what I just read.

I will say I gave the three stars because i found myself enjoying the potential of Morgan's and Cole's relationship. I'm a sucker for the rich girl falling for the "help" and then standing up to the parents and essentially getting cut off to have her love story. If the author would have taken out 50% of the backstory and put it into developing their relationship, i would with out a doubt given the book 4.5-5 stars. But again, I felt like their relationship was rushed because most of the book they are ignoring one another, and then they decide to spend the night in the forest and all of a sudden they are madly in love? I'm sorry but that isn't realistic, I NEED MORE.

Have you read a book where both main characters frustrated the living hell out of you? That was me with this one. This followed Morgan and Cole, but also flipped back and forth in their timeline in a way that was kind of confusing to me.

This is a friends-to-enemies-to-lovers, second chance lovers, opposites attract, forbidden love, and small town.

Morgan was cut off from her rich family, one that owns the small town that this takes place in. Because of that, she’s working on making it on her own as a waitress, while also crashing on her secret ex boyfriend’s grandma’s couch. Cole, the ex boyfriend, is an aspiring musician and just wants to have a way to express himself.

He gets an opportunity at a record deal, but it ends up having ties to her family and there’s just a lot going on, without feeling relatively attached to either main character. When decisions and shit are actually made, they frustrating. And what I think was supposed go be a “oh shit” surprise moment towards the end, the way the characters handled it, I was like “are you kidding me?” Something that traumatic and you don’t even want to alert authorities? And it’s not even YOU that this would benefit but a whole different family? It left me with a bunch of “wtf” moments that ultimately ended up the reason for the super low rating.

I even almost DNF’d it, which I NEVER do. But alas, my need to know what happens and knowing the endings won and I finished it.

I have to say it was my favourite of the Lake Conrad Series. This was a small town, steamy, enemies to lovers second chance romance.

This book picks right back up in Lake Conrad, California and focuses on the lives of Cole Sutton and Morgan Conrad. I was SO hoping and really excited that this book was about Morgan and Cole!
Cole and Morgan were enemies and couldn’t stand being in the same room as one another… for 10 years these two fought publicly… but why? Well we sure do find out and those are some juicy details!
Ultimately, despite everything, these two find their way back to each other and there were some major plot twists that I never saw coming.
I loved how the author tied the backstory between Cole and Morgan into the present day. It was easy to follow and only added to the depth of the story.
I did also find this book pulling at my heart strings. Especially when Ian (Morgan’s cousin) tells her she will always be his family- ugh Ian (his story is in book 2.5).
This book also had more 🌶️ compared to the rest of the series and let me tell you.. I was FOR IT! So good.
Nearing the end of the book there was another love interest duo that we were briefly introduced to, so I’m wondering if there will be a book 4 added to the series?
I really enjoyed this book by Emily North. If you’re looking for a new series to read, check this one out!

This is technically the fourth book in the 𝐋𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐫𝐚𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬. I gathered bits and pieces of Cole and Morgan throughout all the other books and I was so excited to finally get their story.

Morgan is a wild girl who's from a rich family. Cole is one of the gardeners and grandson to someone who works at the house where Morgan lives. You can see why it would be a forbidden love. Their love was the sweetest out of all the Lake Conrad couples so far. Cole is the perfect book boyfriend and I loved his thoughts about her, past and present. He made me swoon a few times throughout the book... I could seriously just squeeze him. ❤️

There's not a ton of spice, but the ones that are included make your heart melt a little. I honestly got Jessie and Rory vibes from this story. Small town, forbidden love, enemies to lovers, book lovers, grumpier guy.... it was all there.

This book is 4/4 in a series! I did see we can expect another novella and book. I'm super intrigued by Mr. Bear and Julia, dying to read all the quirkiness in their story. 👀 I'm invested in this Lake Conrad life.

I loved getting to see the Lake Conrad series continue! This book fits the typical style for Lake Conrad novels. It’s sweet and spicy, with the perfect small town charm and a few laughs as well. I really enjoyed Cole and Morgan’s story and even though this is only the second one of the series that I read, it might be my new favorite! I liked the enemies to lovers aspect, which is always a great trope to read. I also really loved the family aspect in it as well. The backstories were super interesting and I felt that even though it was a fast read, there was some good development for the characters both individually and together. Emily North’s writing style is super unique and I personally think it does a great job of allowing readers to connect deeply with her characters. I also love that the style of the covers continued and that they all are similar yet unique. I definitely have fallen behind on my TBR but I’m definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the Lake Conrad series and curious to see if there will be another book in the series.

The Conrads own Lake Conrad and the surrounding town. Morgan is a beautiful free spirit waitress with the Conrad last name but without the family riches and support. Cole is a sensitive guitar playing, tattooed librarian who is the love of her life. They had a falling out 10 years ago and in the small town of Lake Conrad, you can’t avoid running into each other. When Cole is given the opportunity of a lifetime, you find out just what happened 10 years ago, how their feelings stand today and what they intend to do about it. Though Cole is a total jerk, when you find out what actually happened in their past, you understand his stance on everything, especially with Morgan. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest review. I really enjoyed Morgan and Cole’s story.

♡ First of all, I wanted to thank the author for sending me an ARC of this super amazingly incredible book!!! ♡

♡ Tropes:
• Second chance
• Small town
• Enemies-to-lovers
• Forced proximity
• 3rd person - dual POV

♡ I enjoyed reading about this character's story, just like I did with other book in this series. But I DESPERATELY wanted to read Morgan's! I truly enjoyed learning the reasons behind her actions in the previous novels; I was eager to hear her perspective, and I wasn't let down! We get to watch the evolution of Cole and Morgan's relationship as well as glimpse into their past, and I really loved it! How about this dramatic turn of events? I was utterly unprepared, but this entire book was ideal for telling their story. We got to see all they went through and how their love was stronger than money and lies, so it seemed like they were actually there. I won't say that this is my favorite book in the series because I enjoy them all, but I read this book in one sitting because I was so immersed in the characters' story!

I had read the first three books from the Lake Conrad series and I was so excited to get to the story of Cole and Morgan. She set the stage in the earlier books and it was evident they had a great love and an even greater tragedy. The story did not disappoint. Morgan is a fireball and Cole is the one that brings out the softer side of her that she keeps tucked away. I love the way North goes back and forth retelling the story of their troubled past while intertwining it with the present...and that twist at the end that I did not see coming! Emily North's wit shone through again in this book and it had me laughing and crying in this steamy romance.

This is part of the Lake Conrad series, but can be read as a standalone.

Morgan and Cole have known each other for the last ten years. Starting off friendly, they are now perpetually upset with one another. Through a series of flashbacks, we piece together their story.

Morgan is trying to live independently from her wealthy family, but is feeling adrift. She is staying with Lucy, Cole's grandmother and the head housekeeper at Morgan's family home.

Cole is trying to get a record deal, but does he really want to work with Morgan's uncle?

This book is all about second chances and taking a chance on love and happiness. I really enjoyed this story!

I got halfway through the book and I couldn’t connect with the characters. They felt childish to me and I didn’t really feel a chemistry. From the start of the story I felt like I was missing a lot of information (which is understandable) but it also left me floundering because I was confused about why Cole and Morgan didn’t like each other because until 50% literally nothing was mentioned as to why they had a contentious relationship other than Morgan loving Cole’s grandmother. I had trouble understanding their motivation for doing anything and I am not a fan of flashbacks.

While I enjoyed this book in an overall sense, I feel like we didn’t get any true resolution to a movement in relationship for Cole and Morgan. There was Back and forth with the timeline, which was great in some ways, but then not needed at other times it felt. I liked that there was some growth on the part of Morgan, but wanted more. I think the story had some real potential to be amazing, but again, I was left wanting more from both characters.

Emily North is a new to me author, and this was my first read. While I enjoyed reading, I did find myself a little confused at times with Cole and Morgan's relationship. I felt like I needed a few more details spread out here and there. I loved the whole setting of the story and how it played out. I'll definitely keep my eye out for more from this author.

Cole and Morgan’s story drew me in from the first page, I loved how it wasn’t your typical love story, there was pain and heartbreak and a story behind it all. I loved how it was told and how the author brought the whole story together. I cannot wait to read more!

I really enjoyed this story. I haven’t read all of the Lake Conrad books, but this book makes me want more! This book was so easy to read and flowed really nicely. It reminded me of Love and Other Words with the flashbacks to their teen years. And I loved that book and now this one as well!! It also had both Morgan and Cole’s POV’s, which I liked seeing. I loved the banter between the two characters. There wasn’t a lot of spice but those scenes were sweet and special. I loved seeing Morgan and Cole’s story and seeing how the ended up together all these years later. I loved the found family of this book as well. I loved getting to see Morgan finally get her happy ending after being put through the ringer. I recommend!!

Fault is a sweet second chance romance. The storyline follows Morgan and Cole during their teenage years and their current young adult years (10 years apart) The majority of the chapters started with remembering something that happened to the two main characters ten years in the past and then described how the past moment molded the current situation. This made for slow progression and occasional confusion in the storyline. About halfway through the book I became accustomed to this particular flow, allowing me to enjoy the story a little more. Both Cole and Morgan's characters had great potential to embrace their wild and artistically moody sides, but fell just shy of being flat instead.

Overall this is a sweet contemporary second chance slow burn romance that was able to hold my attention to the very end.

To be completely honest, this is not my favorite Lake Conrad book (the bar is pretty high). I think at this point I'm so invested in the characters that I'm angry for Morgan and all the crap she's had to deal with in life. I love her brokenness and the mask she wears to hide it though. She feels so relatable for being from a family of privilege. The relationships in this series, and specifically this book, are really great but the plot for this one felt a bit weak overall.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad book at all just not as strong as the others. I love Cole. I really like the cameo from Julia and the unlikely relationship that forms between her and Morgan. I also enjoyed watching the journey Morgan has gone through and seeing her kind of discover herself through the trauma and healing. I was unnaturally disappointed in Ian (really all the friend group TBH), I felt like he failed Morgan so much and wished he'd have stepped up a bit more. I hope to see them get a little closer moving forward.

I continue to look forward to watching this series grow. A big thanks to the author for allowing me to review her books, it's always a pleasure.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review honestly and voluntarily.

I had a great time reading this! It’s short and sweet, and filled with plenty of angst and loveable characters. Morgan and Cole have just the right amount of disdain for each other and I loved seeing their relationship change and develop over the course of the book. I liked the past/present timeline; I think it was done well in this book and gave you good insight into the dynamics between the main characters. The non-romance pieces of this were intriguing and unexpected, with just enough twists to keep you guessing. Overall I think this was a fun read, and I'm excited to see what else the author puts out in the future!
