Summary: Through repetitive phrases, familiar nursery rhyme characters pass along a mysterious grocery list. Readers can use the clues in the pictures to identify the characters and figure out to whom the list belongs.

Commentary: This is a fun book to share the pictures with emerging readers who have been reading nursery rhymes, though it is quite simple. This book begins with an intriguing illustration of Humpty Dumpty looking at a grocery list in front of Kingdom Grocery full of visual nursery rhyme references to explore (like grocery ads for "Jack's Magic Beans"). Unfortunately the following pages are less rich, and the text does not add any additional depth to explore in how nursery rhymes could blend together into their own world. I admit to being disappointed! For new readers, they have the same phrase to read over and over again on the pages ("Not mine"), on each page. Not challenging, but it can build confidence. The list is finally revealed on the last page (in picture list) that gives a final little puzzle to do.

If you're looking for some visual puzzlers to add to some nursery rhyme reading, you can find some in here.
