In the fifth book authored by Denver C. Snuffer, Jr. the Book of Enos, the third writer in the Book of Mormon, is explained. This book-length commentary on Enos' writing discusses details which go unnoticed by most readers. Enos wrote in a cryptic style which employed symbols to convey deep meaning in few words. He inscribed his writings on metal plates with limited space, and therefore he wrote to make each word of his book convey meaning. This commentary sheds light on Enos in a way which has not been provided by any previous writer. It will reveal to the reader some of the deepest and most profound messages of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, as understood, taught and practiced by the ancient prophet Enos.
I absorbed this book rather than just reading it. It gave me new insights I hadn't considered before, opening my mind to new possibilities. Since reading it I have pondered how I can become more meek. I do have more questions now that I will have to research and pray about considering second anointings, but I love having a direction to put my studies rather than just going with the flow.
I already liked reading Enos' account in the Book of Mormon before reading Beloved Enos, which is why I was excited to read it in the first place. Now I am even more awed by his meekness and love for his people and his enemies. His example is even more precious to me now. Reading about such a great man humbles me but I am glad for that because I think it is a step closer to being the meek and humble person I want to be. I have a ways to go I know. It makes me even more grateful for the Savior's atonement which gives me room to improve. My wrongs are erased through His loving sacrifice and I want to be better because I love Him.
Beloved Enos is probably a book to be read by someone who is already on the path to wanting to follow the Saviors footsteps and who already has a burning testimony of the restored gospel. Without a testimony of a church set up exactly like the church Jesus set up in His day, and that has been followed through the Old Testament with Prophets, Apostles, Pastors, Teachers, and the Priesthood, this book would not be the uplifting experience that I experienced. Beloved Enos is for those who already know and believe the simple truths of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and want to know more.
I am anxious to read Denver Snuffer's other books because I like the way he thinks.
Loved it enough to read it in a day. I loved The Second Comforter just as much (same author), and this book seems to be an extension of that one. If you're looking for a meaty book, this is a great read. I have always loved Enos, but this opened my heart to him in a way not previously felt. I appreciate the author's insights, and although I don't believe in one-true-view/interpretation of scripture, this is a deep look into a very short portion of the Book of Mormon. I like that this book gave me some possible answers to questions I've already been asking.
A thoughtful review of the book of Enos. He includes a discussion on the Second Comforter, having your calling and election made sure (it'll be nice to have this as a reference, with all the statements by JS and others in one place), and other topics. The last three chapters are great, pulling everything together nicely and focusing on the importance of meekness and charity. Certainly worth reading.
His logic makes a lot of sense to me, though I think a few of his "perhaps it means this" go a little farther than the text can strongly support. Its really valuable because its such a close reading that goes very deeply into individual word choice and what that means and what that teaches about doctrine. I found that valuable.
Loved it. If you are a all familiar with the Second Comforter, C&E, faith, hope, and charity, etc then you will know most this info in the book. However, like all of Mr Snuffers books, there are wonderful nuggets and insights to each chapter. I believe this to be the correct way to read Enos and I am glad to have read this.
