In 1974 two Black Americans fought in Zaire, in Africa. One was Muhammad Ali. After the fight, he was the boxing champion of the world -- again. But why did a young boy from Kentucky start to box? Why did he stop boxing? And what is he doing now?
Muhammad Ali (or Cassius Clay) is a famous world champion boxer who was born on January 17, 1942 in the USA. In 1964, he joined the Nation of Islam and he changed his adopted name “Cassius Clay” to “Muhammad Ali”. Also, his family was not happy with this because they were Christian. By chance he met Joe Martin when he was twelve years old and Joe directed him toward boxing. During his amateur career, he won 100 fights out of 108. In his professional career; he had won the World Heavyweight Championship in 1964, 1974. and1978. In reality, he had the fastest punch in the world which reached to 900 km/h. Also, he became "Sportsman of the Century" in 1999. Unfortunately, his boxing license was suspended for two years because he refused to join the US army in Vietnam. In the 1980s, he stopped boxing because he suffered from Parkinson’s disease. Ali is generally considered to be one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.
