Clare is dispatched on a mission to the holy city of Rabona, whose laws prohibit Claymores from entering the city. As a result, Clare is forced to ingest pills that suppress her outward Claymore-specific characteristics, namely her silver eyes. Clare's attempts to find the yoma are made difficult since the pills she is taking makes her unable to sense yōki, or yoma energy. She is further sidetracked by Galk and Sid, a pair of soldiers, who attempt to capture her. They become her allies after she saves them from an ambush by the yoma. Using their aid, she examines all the priests in the temple to root out the yoma. When this fails, Clare realizes the yoma's location, and barely saves Raki from the yoma. Clare fares poorly against the yoma until Raki provides Clare the statue they brought into the city, revealing Clare's sword.

Better than first volume but there are a few cheesy moments that annoyed me. They could actually have been good moments if they where toned done a bit instead of being over the top.
Clare is assigned a covert operation in the holy city of Rabona, a place where unnatural beings aren't accepted. She and Raki pose as brother and sister while they look for a Yoma the old-fashioned way - Clare must take pills that supress her powers, including her ability to see Yoma.
3.5 Stars The second volume felt a bit predictable with the young boy constantly needing Claire to save him. Still, I am finding the story enjoyable, even if the story is not particularly groundbreaking.
This volume begins with them going to a town called Rabona where a priest has called for them and they have to go undercover as brother and sister and they do and what they find is shocking. There are some intense scenes as the soldiers of that land fight her and then she meets the other priests and all is revealed and when the Yoma is finally revealed its gonna be a big fight.
This was a great volume and just shows the depth of this world and how the life is for Claymores and I love the resemblance of humanity that Clare is getting and her bond with Raki. Plus loving the art as it gets darker and the exposition level is good too. The bonds are something but what I love about the series is the slow unravelling of the secrets and all that. This is a high octane psychological thriller.
3.5 stars! this was another solid volume and i really liked how the mystery of who the yoma was this time around was set up. clare could not get any cooler or more badass in my eyes. i love how raki tries to get closer and learn more about clare even when she pushes him away because he really cares about her. if anything happens to him i don’t know how i’ll be able to go on.
i also just realized there’s an anime for this so definitely going to be watching as i read and that makes it so much more fun i can’t wait!!
3.5/5 Clare has a new mission and along with Raki, they go to a little village where ‘unholy things’ are not allowed. She disguises herself as a human with the help of some pills that suppress her yoma abilities, so this work means she should be stealthier and more careful, to find out who’s the yoma who is been eating the spiritual men in the cathedral.
Despite its short length, this volume showed us how Raki truly cares about Clare, even when she’s a half-breed. And though she may not speak it out loud, she cares for the kid too. Plus, we get amazing action scenes and the art style improved so much that I’m glad I kept reading the series!
Also, kudos to the artist for those backrounds, they really give the best ambience of this fantasy/supernatural story! Can’t wait to read the next volumes!
3.5 Same rating as the first volume. Now this isn't actually a bad rating, its a lightweight read so far. I saw some recommendations to read this if you like Berserk. While I can see why that is, Berserk feels a little meatier. Still going to keep reading because its entertaining!
Counting for sims-a-thon: Meet the grim reaper for 3 points Total points: 52
Clare grows as a character, and also Raki becomes a bit more interesting (although not yet useful). We get more explanations about what Claymores are and how everything works - all introduced naturally in the narrative and diluted not to be too much or too "instructive" at once.
The challenge grows even more. The new enemy is way more powerful and it will test Clare's limits.

The second reading shows that the second volume, the „Darkness in Paradise” story, is far superior. It manages to bring a stronger story, more intense, although it adds many questions about how yoma works - she now needs to recover for two days, but before she managed to recover almost instantly. Her relationship with Raki starts to make a bit of sense, but I'm looking forward to see how it evolves in the next chapters.
4/5 Clare and Raki head to the holy city of Rabona. Claymore's are not welcome there so Clare has to disguise herself and mute her powers. Making hunting the voracious eater "a stronger yoma" all the more difficult.
This volume is a nice little one volume arc. Or it could have been but it ends on a cliffhanger and will likely finish in the first chapter of volume 3. Boo.
Volume 2 was a little more fleshed out and thankfully took a little longer to read. Still great action and artwork. The secondary characters introduced here are pretty cool to. The city guards.
Norihiro Yagi's "Claymore" is fascinating. Clare and Raki exploring areas of the world such as Rabona, and the intelligence and power of the Yoma become clearer. Norihiro Yagi's line art is superb, the figure work is delicate. This volume is most of a single story arc and works on the intrigue of Rabona society quite well.
In a dark fantasy world overrun by shape-shifting demons called Yoma, a mysterious organization has created half-breed warriors called Claymores to combat the monsters terrorizing the world. The story centers around a Claymore named Clare, a determined woman who seeks revenge against the Yoma that killed the person she loved and admired most. On her journey of revenge, she slowly unravels the horrifying mysteries surrounding the origins of the Yoma, the shady organization that created her, as well as the true meaning of her own existence.
When I first started reading, the story instantly gave me Vampire Hunter D, The Witcher and Berserk vibes, only this time it featured a captivating and sympathetic female lead named Clare. We don't know that much about her at first, but beneath her stoic and determined facade is a struggling little girl with a tragic backstory of loss and a painful drive of revenge interfering with her ability to live a normal life. Despite her cold and sometimes monstrous demeanor, Clare has a big soft spot for humanity despite the blood of demons running through her veins. She's chilling, badass and most importantly, sympathetic.
Over the course of the series, we meet dozens of amazing female warriors, each with their own unique powers, personalities, demonic transformations and interactions with Clare. Theresa of the Faint Smile who serves as a motherly role model for Clare was my favorite character in the story, and I ended up being impressed by the sheer amount of badass, likable female warriors that were introduced later on in the series that I ended up growing attached to as well. It's not too often you see dark fantasy or sword & sorcery series where 99% of the main cast are well-written female warriors.
Some plot points get a bit messy in the second half of the series, but the action, characters, horror and monsters never stop being thrilling and it also has a very satisfying conclusion despite having a few road bumps along the way. It's a great series if you enjoy the Conan-esque monster of the week formula with added layers of mystery and emotion.
Clare is a very interesting protagonist. The first time I read this volume, I remember being very intrigued by her coldness to Raki despite clearly caring for him. It makes me wonder where her character will go from here.
Another good volume, but it’s still heavy on action, light on plot. I’m still enjoying it, but I’m hoping there will be more to it than this.
The art is good and I’m still enjoying the characters. Some of the male characters do look very similar though. Hopefully Norihiro Yagi doesn’t continue this trend in later volumes because it is a little annoying trying to follow it all. Everything else is drawn crisp and neat though. Really nice.
Fun, good action, if fairly predictable. Ends on a cliffhanger so happy to continue reading.
I respect the decision to have a jump series stay so humorless. Like, I think it somewhat suffers because of its lack of levity, but I also think it's a bold choice to commit to keeping things so bleak and miserable. Weird that this guy wrote Angel Densetsu (a comedy series) prior to this.
Anyway, this series is okay. It mostly feels derivative of Berserk/Tsutomu Nihei's stuff. Maybe it picks up later, though.
Knowing the past of people through rumors is common to most. But if we leave all that aside and we can see things as our own eyes ... We see Claire in action and also showing her half human side and surpassing her monster side not alone but with the help of someone who has become the his little brother.
