Francis Bacon was born in Ireland of English parents in 1909 and died in 1992. Self-taught, he expressed the satirical, horrifying, and hallucinatory in such works as Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion (1944, Tate Gallery, London). His artwork is known for its bold, austere, and often grotesque or nightmarish imagery.
A rundown of Bacon's rise to fame from an artistic point-of-view, documenting his progression through exhibitions and word of mouth through the art world. It could do with a more accessible tone and more concern for his private life, but a perfectly good addition to my Francis Bacon collection, if I can call it that. Also includes around 50 paintings, although the mini format perhaps does not do them justice.
