The Communion of the Holy Spirit

Rate this book
The apostle Paul ends his second letter to the Corinthians with the divine salutation, "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all" (13.14). We as Christians come to know the fullness of the Godhead through the love, the grace and the communion, which proceed from the triune God. It is the love of God the Father that purposes all. It is the grace of God the Son that provides all. And it is the communion of God the Spirit that performs all. Love, grace and communion are all equally essential. What would love be without grace? It would have no expression. What would grace be without communion? It would be unattainable. This present volume is a compilation of messages given by God's servant Watchman Nee at various times and places. They all relate to the communion of the Holy Spirit. The first part consists of two messages on Resurrection, the Holy Spirit, and the Church. A proper perspective on the marvelous work of the Holy Spirit is therein given. The second part, entitled "The Outpouring of the Holy Spirit," is composed of six messages on the Outpouring, one message on the Holy Spirit, and the Law, and two messages on the Anointing Oil. And the third part presents four messages on Spiritual Judgment, which is the fruit of the discipline of the Holy Spirit. Such discipline gives spiritual discernment for service. May the blessed Lord who released these messages to the Church use them for the building up of the body of Christ in love.

Watchman Nee (Chinese: 倪柝聲; pinyin: Ní Tuòshēng; Foochow Romanized: Ngà̤ Táuk-sĭng; 1903–1972) was a Chinese Christian author and church leader during the early 20th century. He spent the last 20 years of his life in prison and was severely persecuted by the Communists in China. Together with Wangzai, Zhou-An Lee, Shang-Jie Song, and others, Nee founded The Church Assembly Hall, later which would be also known as the "Local churches" (Chinese: 地方教會). or more commonly as (聚會所) meaning "assembly hall"

Born into a Methodist family, Watchman Nee experienced a religious revival, and joined the Church of Heavenly Peace, Fuzhou in 1920 at age 17 and began writing in the same year. In 1921, he met the British missionary M. E. Barber, who was a great influence on him. Through Miss Barber, Nee was introduced to many of the Christian writings which were to have a profound influence on him and his teachings. Nee attended no theological schools or Bible institutes. His knowledge was acquired through studying the Bible and reading various Christian spiritual books. During his 30 years of ministry, beginning in 1922, Nee traveled throughout China planting churches among the rural communities and holding Christian conferences and trainings in Shanghai. In 1952 he was imprisoned for his faith; he remained in prison until his death in 1972.

The Communion of the Holy spirit
It shows the coming to the knowledge of the fullness of God through His love, grace, and communion.

Lessons:
1. Unless you experience the power of the resurrection of Christ, you don't know what the Church is.
2. The measure of the anointing in you is the limit of your service to God. You can never sense God more than the anointing upon you.
3. If inspiration is common and regular, it isn't inspiration.
4. For the Holy Spirit to come upon you, He requires the active desire of your will.
5. God works within men, and He works on the outside of men.
6. You have something inside you, but you are timid. Others may not have your riches, yet they aren't afraid.
7. Your failure to have an impact lies in your inability to bring in a spiritual atmosphere.
8. If you want to be filled with the Holy Spirit you must be hungry and
unsatisfied.
9. You must walk in God’s ordained path, which isn't to live under the law, but to live under the Spirit.

Typical book from bro Nee.

The book has some relevant spiritual principles, especially in the first part. After that the author starts giving guidance on "how to" in his typical way. Having seen many brothers adopting such kind of procedures, and having witnessed the results, I would not blindly recommend this (or so many others of the same author) book.

Another great book from Watchman Nee. This book delves deep into the teachings of the Spirit. An insightful book that brings clarity if you want to know how to decrease and allow the Holy Spirit to increase in you.
