Get ready to scream, beacuse it's Halloween time in the Black Lagoon.
Hubie has no costume for the scariest Halloween party ever. Too bad he can't just go as the invisible man and stay at home. Plus, there will be a ton of monsters at the party. He'd better find a costume quick or he might become a tasty treat for all those cruel ghouls!

Chanel and I read this the last few nights before she went to bed and it ended up being a fun kid book read. I don't even know where I got it, but we read through it really fast... there are a lot of fun pictures and the story is pretty entertaining. Perfect before Halloween....
Mrs. Green has announced that the class will have a costume party next week, and the best costume will win a prize. Hubie has no idea for a costume, and with a budget of $2.37 things look bleak. His mom takes him to the attic, where lots of treasures are found, and with a trip to the library he now has too many ideas. During his walk home an idea comes to him, and with his mom's help he puts together quite a heavenly costume.
All of our hero's classmates have costumes, but our hero is broke so he can't afford any costume. His mom suggests he makes his own costume, so he becomes an angel. The teacher (who on normal days looks like a dinosaur but on this day looks like a woman in a baseball costume) takes attendance by asking for what they are dressed up as - cute. In the end our hero wins the class costume party just because Eric voted for him (all the other kids, our hero included, voted for themselves).

This took me back to my childhood to when we had a chest of old Halloween costumes and had to come up with our own costumes because new ones were too expensive.
This is the fifth book in the Black Lagoon Adventures series of early chapter books by Mike Thaler and Jared Lee. It's a fun story in the series of books and has a Halloween theme.
We haven't read too many of these books yet, but so far we like them a lot. This story was perfect for Halloween and it shows creativity and ingenuity in the face of a shortage of money. And I was a little worried that the "scary" costumes would be too scary for our girls, but they were fine with them.
We are looking forward to reading more books from this author.
My love of reading started when i was young, and it gives me immense pleasure to provide books to Spread the Word Nevada, an organization that passes them on to children in the community. They are a terrific organization supporting an important cause. If your local I encourage you to check them out. For those living further a field, look in your own community, their may already be a similar program in place. And if not, you can always help start one.
Myself, I go out on the weekends and shop thrift store and bulk book lots to rescue books and donate them. Sometimes I'll find a book I remember reading when I was young and will read it again before passing it on.
I don't rate these books using my normal scale, instead I give most of them three stars. This isn't a Criticism of the book, simply my way of rating them as good for children.
