Be careful what you wish for… Alex Siddons’ life seems practically perfect. She has an enviably comfortable life in a lavish house with her husband, Phil, having shared twenty-five years of blissful marriage together. The only thing missing is a relationship with her in-laws. The family can’t even seem to survive one dinner without arguing, and Pete’s father, Randy, seems to harbour nothing but feelings of hatred towards his son. However, the couple’s otherwise idyllic lifestyle is turned upside-down when Alex discovers that she’s pregnant. Surely it’s far too late for them to have children and, having spent the last twenty-five years child-free, do either of them really want to upset the balance of their relationship by involving a baby? Alex seems to have made up her mind – it’s far too risky. But the more she ponders over her growing belly, the more she begins to wonder whether this is the last chance she’ll ever have to experience motherhood and become a real family. Perhaps now was finally their time to begin a new chapter… But it soon becomes clear that Phil has been doing some thinking his own. Despite his increasing pressure on her, Alex just can’t bring herself to go through with the termination he so desperately wants. Then Phil delivers the ultimatum she has been their marriage, or the baby. With her relationship now hanging in the balance, and her doubts that she is remotely fit for motherhood growing every day, Alex soon begins to realise that love is often found in the most unexpected of places… A Blessing in Disguise is a heart-warming tale of redemption, with unexpected twists that will keep you glued until the final page. ‘A well-written book that holds one’s attention from the first page with twists and turns until the final outcome.’ – The Woman Writer ‘A deeply moving novel, Pamela Fudge has done it again!’ – Holly Kinsella ‘A light, easy read and I happily tripped through it in one sitting when I was sorely in need of something relaxing. Different… a change of life pregnancy really changes the lives of the expectant parents.
So, I’m starting to wonder why the name Phil lends itself to crappy husbands.
I’m leaving this one vague, it’s the middle of the night, and the story’s too complicated to try to decipher. Let’s just say Phil has the ultimate karma bite him in the butt, and Alex gets a nice HEA.
This was a touching chick lit / romance novel. Its about a husband's betrayal as well as rejection of his wife's pregnancy, bringing her closer with his family as well as someone who loves her for who she is. I liked the grit and determination of the fmc.
Alex & Phil Siddons have been married 25 years. She finds out she's pregnant. In the beginning Phil's so happy but that doesn't last long. She has a miscarriage, but only lost one twin! He gives an ultimatum him or the baby. She leaves & moves into her brother in laws flat. He works on oil rigs. She has never gotten along with most of the Siddons, especially his father who has treated Phil poorly since he was young. Phil & his Father get an idea to ride his motorcycle. They go to fast & both didn't survive. How will Alex deal with being a widow & single parent? Will the in laws become involved? There is so much that goes on. A great deal of emotional times. And will she have a healthy baby at 45? You'll enjoy this book it's well written. You won't guess the end!
This is my first book I've read by Pamela fudge but it won't be my last as I found this an intriguing read. The story is based around Alex a career woman who has been married to Phil for 25 years and in that time finds herself unable to get pregnant until now. This is where the story starts and there are quite a few twists and turns along the way to keep this an interesting read. I found Alex on the whole to be a likeable and real character. I'm not going to go into the story too much so as not to spoil it but I hadn't sussed out the ending, there were many possible endings but not the one that happened in fact I had to skip back a few pages thinking I'd either missed some or read it wrong! ....but no I hadn't so it was a good twist. I would like to thank netgalley and endeavour press for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.
After 25 years of marriage Alex finds she is pregnant. Just when you thought you had it all figured out, life throws a curveball at you. Phil, her husband, is adamant that he does not want the baby. Alex has to decide what course her life will take and how her in laws and her husband fit into the mix. There is a curveball partially through, one I was happy to see. I liked this book. I didn't like the main characters much, finding the side characters were actually much more well developed. Thank you to Endeavor Press and Net Galley for this e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I liked this book better than I thought I would. It dealt with middle age pregnancy with a first child, a dysfunctional family and all the thoughts, issues and emotions of the situation. I think older women would enjoy this book more than younger women. It all turned out well and I am glad I read the book.
Thought it was going to be just a bit of fluff for afternoon reading but it turned out differently. Enjoyed every minute of this book. The character, descriptions and settings were very well done.
Change can be good at any age as long as it comes with love. A charming story of one solitary woman who learns how to really love, give, and receive in the face of traumatic experiences.
