Outdated, the book was originally published in 2003. I picked up the 2015 printing.
Starfish needs to be changed to sea star.
I would have liked the glossary to be two pages, clearly indicate which of the animals in Fishy Tales are fish and which are other types of animals (mammals, reptiles, etc.) to help the adults properly share information with the children.
As always with DK Readers, lavishly illustrated. Pre-level 1 easy reading. The perfect read for before and after visiting an aquarium or even a pet store.
Employs nice photos of at least twelve underwater creatures and points out their features using simple language. This book is labeled as a "learning to read" book, one of DK's graded readers.
Review: The book fishy tales is suitable for young children. This book teaches young children what is underneath the ocean such as they can take a journey through the coral reef where you can watch fish swim throughout the ocean. This book teaches the children that the fish are the ones that live underneath the ocean.
Content Statements: 1. Fish live in the ocean. 2. Fish have many scales. 3. There are many different fish.
How we could you in the classroom: Show the children many pictures of different kinds of fish and explain what they are different. Ask the children if they can draw their favorite type of fish.
This easy reader takes readers on a tour of the deep blue sea introducing them to some of the inhabitants down there, and pointing out various parts of their anatomy.
I love the brilliant pictures of the DK books. This is a good introductory level book for getting kids acquainted with sea creatures. And a nice non-fiction pick in the easy reader realm.
This book was interesting it was about animals that live in the sea like fish, sea horses, sea turtles, star fish, jelly fish, SHARKS, octupuses, crabs, sting rays, dolphins and eels all good living animals that are in the sea
Since this book is a beginners level it was an ok book. They could have made it more interesting. It is boring to say this is doing this all the pages. The illustrations are real so that gives the children a good image in their head. Perhaps we can use this book after a trip in an aquarium or zoo.
Easy to read story about what you would find underwater in the ocean. Pictures are labeled with basic information. Appropriate for pre-k, EL, and primary grade readers.
