Everyone at Robin Hill School is looking forward to Valentine's Day. Everyone except Neil. He thinks valentines are silly. But on the big day, when Neil doesn't get any valentines at school, he's not sure they're so silly after all!
Margaret McNamara is the Christopher Award–winning author of more than two dozen books for young readers, including the Robin Hill School series. The Fairy Bell Sisters series is inspired not only by her love of the classic sisterhood novel Little Women but by her own experiences growing up with older sisters (and a baby brother). Margaret and her family live in New York City, but they spend part of their summer on an island in Maine very much like Sheepskerry Island.
I like this story because I think that it has a good message. The illustrations support the text and it has many simple, level 1 sentences that students would be able to understand. It would be a good book to read before transitioning into making Valentine's Day cards. Just a fun, quick story to read that students can sit and listen to and enjoy :)
This book is an extremely cute book! It has such a good theme that each child will be able to connect with. This is one book that I will make sure I have in my classroom library.
My children love these little books. They thoroughly enjoy each and every story, as if they are all unique and individual without any cause for similarity among them. Even though sometimes, they might seem tedious and repetitive to me as a parent, I do enjoy being able to read short-stories to my children that are clean and respective.
