Kay Marie Porterfield was awarded an Artist's Fellowship in creative non-fiction by the Colorado Council on the Arts, a part of the National Endowment for the Arts. She is the winner of a Colorado Book Award and two Native Circle Writer's Awards.

Kay is the author of 19 published books and over 500 articles published in national magazines. Her literary memoirs have been published in The Sun and MacGuffin. Her fictionalized memoirs have been published in Redbook.

She has been a workshop and seminar presenter on journal writing, writing as a tool for healing, the creative process and writing to be published for nearly twenty years.
