Syaoran, Fai, Kurogane, and Mokona are returning to the Kingdom of Clow–and toward an ultimate showdown with the ruthless Fei-Wang Reed. But entering a world that is cut off from time endangers the very existence of the once-happy villagers, as the final story arc of the Tsubasa epic begins!
CLAMP originally began in 1989 as a twelve-member dōjinshi circle, but by 1990, the circle had diminished from twelve to seven. Of the remaining seven, Tamayo Akiyama, Sei Nanao, and Leeza Sei left the group during the production of the RG Veda manga. Other former members of CLAMP also included Soushi Hishika, O-Kyon, Kazue Nakamori, Yuzuru Inoue and Shinya Ōmi. Currently, there are four members in the group.
In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.
In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.
First part was interesting and kinda scary.. liked the "repeating time" thing. Then came the second part which is mind bending. . I was going to assume that Shaoran is Sakura's son lol. Then I remembered Card Captor Sakura (which I haven't read but know about). So it means that Shaoran is CC Sakura's son, not our Sakura's. Right??? Anyway, the ending part was sweet, as it was about the first time Sakura and Shaoran met. Lovely...
Slowly moveing the plot forward. I'm glad there is no more chasing after feathers now. Still confused as to who Sayaorian's parents are in Tokyo... Are they the Cardcaptor Sakura versions of Sakura and Sayaorian or??? And Fujitaka was Clow's version of Sakura's father but then in the first volume Clow Reed was????? And Fujitaka was Sayaorian's adoptive father??? So confused!
Of course this is the last volume my library/the inter-library loan has and the series goes up to Volume 28! Nooo.
They get sent to the Kingdom of Clow, where Fai-Weng is. But they're stuck in this cycle of days repeating until they discover how to break out of it, though with some upsetting and horrifying consequences. It was disturbing seeing the people melt...
I really like this volume because we see Syaoran and Sakura (both of them real) meeting for the first time. Syaoran was aware that he lived in a different dimension from Sakura and he had to meet her, his destiny. I'm still confused a little with the chronology of whose prices paid for what wishes... Little Syaoran and little Sakura are quite adorable. Also, the king we're introduced to here is not the same king as the past kings we see in flashbacks in previous volumes. Apparently the past king in those volumes were Clow Reed, but in this volume he's Fujitaka. What? It's revealed that Sakura of the Cardcaptor Sakura series is Syaoran's mother (with her wand in Yuko's store as payment for a wish), but the young Sakura looks just like his mother does when they were young, and the queen looks like Syaoran's grandmother. Mmmm...
This volume ends on the sweet note of Sakura, who can't be touched during his purification ritual, dropping a wreath of flowers on Syaoran's head.

Having arrived in the time-frozen Clow Country, Syaoran and his friends find the day repeating, and the cost of leaving may be too much to bear - and if they can escape the madness, the moment may finally arrive for him to at last reveal his past with Sakura. CLAMP weaves the intricate threads of a grander tale in this jaw-dropping entry, sure to have avid fans glued to the pages. Are Syaoran, Fai, Kurogane and Mokona willing to make the sacrifices necessary to grant their wishes?
December 2013: 3.5 Stars (Shown as 4) Strange how the "cut off from time" thing worked. I feel so bad for Syaoran, carrying the guilt of the death of the townspeople. At least Kurogane, Fai and Mokona backed him up. Syaoran's backstory with Sakura is interesting, although the whole Sakura/Syaoran's mom thing is a weird coincidence. So begins the mind f***ing, I think. Uh-oh.
Tsubasa is in a way a love letter to all of CLAMP's other works. I went into this having read almost all - definitely all relevant - series by CLAMP, so I can't say for sure, but I think this series is only half as fun if you haven't read the other works (preferably all). If you enjoy Easter Eggs and cameos, Tsubasa is an absolute treat.
For the longest time, Tsubasa was the longest manga series I owned; anything beyond 10 volumes makes me think twice as I find that most lengthy series just drag unnecessarily. However, it was impossible for me to say no to Tsubasa, Sakura and Syaoran from Cardcaptor Sakura have been long-time favourite manga characters of mine, not to mention that I am generally very fond of CLAMP and all their big and small crossovers. Reading a story that combines almost their entire bibliography and with Sakura and Syaoran as the main characters was too good to say no to. It should also be mentioned that this series is heavily interwoven with xxxHolic's plot and should best be read alongside each other.
This Syaoran and Sakura are not the same from Cardcaptor Sakura (although the original Sakura makes a cameo). In essence, this is a story about travelling between dimensions - the same person can exist in different versions of themselves in different universes. Sakura and Syaoran travel between the different worlds - all very different - and meet characters and elements from all across CLAMP's other works. In fact, some characters appear more than once to highlight how the same being can exist and lead a different life in different worlds. It's really fun to see the characters from other stories living different lives, some are funny and some are bittersweet. CLAMP has killed off a fair amount of its characters in other works so it's nice to see some of them leading happier and peaceful lives.
In addition to meeting a whole lot of known characters, there are also a couple of Tsubasa original characters such as Fay and Kurogane who accompany Sakura and Syaoran on their travels. I've grown to love Fay and Kurogane almost as much as I love the other two - so while Tsubasa is very much a homage to other CLAMP works, it's also a very character-driven story with both Fay and Kurogane having intricate and deep personalities. I also have to express my apologies to Kurogane - I always expected not to like him because I'm not very fond of brawns-over-brains type of characters, but I was very wrong about him; great character, smart as well a strong and just a really great guy.
Being a work of CLAMP, it's almost needless to say that the art is beautiful. That being said, this is more of a shounen-esque series which also shows in the art with the somewhat oddly length limbs and a greater focus on action, weapons and muscles. I prefer shoujo art, but the facial art is much the same as other CLAMP works so I can absolutely live with that.
A downside of Tsubasa is plain and simple that it gets confusing. There are time skips, world switching, doubles across different series (xxxHolic) and rather vague motivations from the villain's side. At some point, I just decided to go with the flow rather than trying to make sense of every detail. There's a bit of a loose end, though I wouldn't exactly call it a band ending either. Now that they are working on a sequel, it'll be interesting to see where things will lead to next.
Either way, an absolute gem if you like CLAMP and crossovers, and Sakura, Syaoran, Fay and Kurogane are just a great team of characters - to be fair, Mokona is as much part of the team and deserves a mention too. Finally, I just love these characters.
Why is this so good? This series has me hooked! Every chapter and volume has me more and more confused. Even when my questions are finally answered, the answers just confuse me more, filling my brain with more questions.
Syaoran, Fai and Karogane are transported to the Kingdom of Clow but the version that is frozen in a short, few hour time loop. I ffel so bad for Syaoran, he's so pained by the people of this world being destroyed because they have to change the loop to press forward.
We finally get a look at the real Syaoran's flashbacks. The version of the Kingdom of Clow seems different to the one we started in st the start of the series. Fujitaka is the king in this version, not the architect that we knew in the other version. Where is Clow Reed in this version? And now, as well as Fai (Yûi) and Karogane (Yôô) having true names, Syaoran (named after his father, Syaoran) has a true name and so does Sakura (same name as Syaoran's mother). Confused? I expect that it's only going to get more entertainingly confusing moving forward.

I thought for sure that once our heroes got to the Kingdom of CLow that they would immediately be in conflict with FEi Want, but as per usual with serialized comics they're going to draw it out for another handful of issues (culminating 4 volumes of the collected books from now). I would be a bit peeved about that, since we're long overdue for a proper climax, but Clamp did use the extra time to flesh out Syaoran and Sakura's backstory. We see their first meeting when they are children, where some very borderline creepy storylines start to play out. In Cardcaptor Sakura, it was pretty obvious that SAkura and Syaoran were meant to be in love, but in this universe it sounds like Sakura is going to be Syaoran's grandmother (or mother, it's kind of hard to tell). Then again, we're dealing with a multiverse where, so I guess we'll see how things play out in the upcoming storyarcs.

Creo que no he entendido nada...

The group will be making an attempt to travel to a point in Clow's timeline where time is frozen. This will hopefully allow them to confront the villain who's been orchestrating all the misery they've been through. But what exactly those frozen time mean to the world it's done to?
There's some real back-to-the-future vibes in this volume. It feels a bit weird that Syaoran is fated to be with a girl who is the younger version of his mom. Maybe they'll clear this up in the next volume?
Cuando nos acercamos al final, es cuando empezamos a vislumbrar cuánto sufrió Shaoran al inicio de todo este lío...

Finally a 'happy' volume. It's probably the first volume after a while without a fight, rich in bittersweet memories. It's like a breath of fresh air after so many dark chapters.
