Barbie returns to Fairytopia in this March 2007 DTV release

When Azura asks Elina to be her apprentice, Elina can't wait to help! After saving Fairytopia twice, it would be exciting to learn the Flight of Spring, the annual ritual that brings to life the First Rainbow of Spring! But Elina can't afford to make any mistakes. If the ritual is not performed correctly, the land will be forced into a bitter ten-year winter.

But while practicing spells, Elina is tricked into releasing Laverna from her toad form. Now Laverna will do anything to stop the Flight of Spring and take over Fairytopia...

In an ironic twist, while I think the Fairytopia films worsened with each installment, the junior novelizations actually seem to get better, at least from a visual standpoint. Fairytopia had very sparing visuals, and Mermaidia consisted of interesting, but bland concept art. Magic of the Rainbow, however, shows off a lot of the locations, or at least more than other Barbie junior novelizations dare to, and since the gorgeous locales are the Fairytopia franchise’s strongest asset, this is a smart move. I still think the plot and message of Magic of the Rainbow are hokey and a weird step away from the quest-through-various-lands approach of the previous two Fairytopia films, but those are criticisms for the movie itself—the junior novelization is nothing super-impressive, but at least its pictures showcase the film’s lush design. It's forgettable and silly, but maybe worth keeping if you're a geek.

Me: How did you like that Fairytopia book, honey?
Her in a singsong voice: Loved it, loved it, great, great, great!

My opinion: It was actually better than I thought it would be! It was a fun VERY quick read that really engaged my kids. Anything with fairies is always a big hit with them.
