Sci fi, werewolves, daemons, witch actions, erotic dreams, time travels, shapeshifters, drug addiction...
There is a lot to pick up, and there are different narratives throughout the book. I was lost, the fact that the heroes themselves were slowly discovering their capabilities, their powers and their story didn't help . At one point, I felt like I missed the whole plot.
This book seems like the prequel to a very good serie and the action looks interesting : to fight a powerful vilain (a demoniac shapeshifter) who wants to destroy the world.

September 17, 2009Immortal is an adeptly written work of speculative fiction.
The author knows her way around lush phrasing. I'm usually one who loses interest in a book if the sentence-flow is clunky, and melt when I find works that offer the value of a cohesive, flowing voice. Valjeanne's phrasing reads like a seasoned and oft-published writer's would. She's definitely worth your time.
It's an eventful and creative read. This could easily be a film, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was opted for one.

What a story! I felt like I was swimming at first, because there are a lot of elements to get used to, and the point of view changes quickly as the story unfolds. After I got a handle on the world, Jeffers painted a striking picture. I'm especially impressed with how she pulled in so many different elements of fantasy and sci-fi to make something unique yet familiar at the same time.
I'm curious to see how the story progresses in Immortal II.

Valjeanne Jeffers creates the wonderful post-apocalyptic paradise of Topaz where the the streets are clean, the citizens are honest, and life is good. Of course with this perfect civilization there are daemons who can't wait to destroy it. In Immortal we are introduced to a cadre of shape-shifting heroes whose daily lives are heavily affected by their fantastical dreamlives.

As the plot unfolded I found it difficult to put down this book. Immortal is a Great Science Fiction (and Fantasy) story.

Although it wasn't pitch perfect, this was a fairly good read delivered by a highly inventive author with a lot of promise.

I enjoyed this book well enough to finish it, but not fully enough to venture to the next one. I spent alot of time lost in all the changes, character insertions, without warning scene changes that it took away from the overall delivery for me. The formatting needs to be edited so that there are some sort of breaks when changing from one scene to another. The storyline left me confused about the main villains true motivation for wanting to destroy the heroinne. The time traveling also left me with multiple questions, not sure from once sentence to the next where I was in the connection with the "present" story. I do however think the Author is very talented, and I will say that perhaps I was simply out of my element in this one, but this is my honest critique.
