Avery Shaw thought she’d seen it all. Then she gets the sort of call she never expected.
Buried in a part of the city she never visits, across the road from the Dairy Queen of all places, is Antique Dolls. It’s a niche strip club featuring dancers over the age of 40… and a very unique clientele.
When a masked intruder comes barreling into the club firing a gun and hits the owner, Avery is intrigued. When she gets to the hospital and hears that the local police secreted away a politician under the cover of flashing lights and jurisdiction problems, she’s practically frothing at the mouth.
Finding a motive for the shooting should be easy, but when a secretive lifestyle minister inserts himself into the investigation, Avery is left spinning. He’s got a colorful past and an army of followers willing to fight for him.
What he doesn’t have is Avery Shaw. She’s determined to uncover the truth, even if it means putting herself in danger. When Grandpa and Mario decide to help—Mario going as far as to position himself as an undercover dancer—Avery has more backup than she bargained for.
Information is coming at her from all sides, and so is danger. Avery Shaw doesn’t lose. This time, however, there might not be a winner.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
What I love about these books, the interpersonal relationships, the dialogue..........especially between the family members.......is hilarious at times and Avery's grandfather is brilliant. What annoys me about about these books, there's too much I love you , you're so awesome, so amazing and so on and so on. A little less of the mutual appreciation would be a blessing I'm not asking for it to be cut out altogether as it is part of the dynAmic between Avery and Elliot just gone it down a bit, please. This book sees Avery doing what she does best torturing county commissioner Tax Ludington while at the same time chasing the story behind a shooting at a strip club..............where the dancers are all over 40....
Avery Shaw is a reporter, but she always gets to the bottom of her stories and usually gets to the murderer before the police do. She has great instincts and pulls at her leads until she finds out whodunit. She's hunting for the killer, and no intern or anyone will get in her way! I love her husband. He always has her back, and he knows when to step in and help and when to let her do her thing. She has a snarky sense of humor and had me laughing out loud several times. Loved it!
Well, she would be if it wasn't that everyone recognises her after the TV coverage...
A shooting at a niche strip club looks like it could be the start of something far bigger...
When Avery hears that a 5th ambulance went to a different hospital and it contained a local politician, she's not going to drop it until she's found out if it was Tad her nemesis...
And when he announces a new task force to clean up the filth and strip clubs, Avery does what she does best of all and totally derails his conference and sets the press against him...
But she's not going to let it go; she will follow all the leads and she will take it to the very end...
Oh my Avery Shaw!! Trouble really does find her at every corner, strip club and shed…lol I have to say Mario steals the show this time in spectacular fashion, I laughed so hard I cried and cringed all at the same time. Avery is on the scent of a new story or maybe more than one story, or maybe she might just dement Tad a few more times and let’s throw some sh*t Duncan’s way as well, because he deserves it lol. To say there was a lot to unpack in this story is an understatement but then again it’s an Avery Shaw mystery they are always full of fun, action, snark and this time as a bonus strippers…lol
I binged this series, wasn't sure if I would like this series, but I was proven wrong. I love this series we have a enemies going out of the woodwork. We have a politician who is full of himself, one crazy family. We also have a boyfriend turned husband. An old boyfriend turn really good friend. We have a best friend who might be just as crazy as we are. Then we have the hero of this series Avery Shaw, she's a marvel, she loves all things horror movies, stars wars and my favorite, she loves her chucks. I live them too! Ms. Amanda you have given me another series to love!💙💚
Avery Shaw is one of my favourites, she’s so totally committed to getting her story regardless of who she upsets or the danger. Eliot is a saint to put up with her but the pair seem to work so well together. She gets up to her usual antics here, love her cousin Mario, he’s so utterly crazy, his ideas are just so off the wall. He gets to live his dream here and it’s utterly hilarious. This is such an amusing read, highly recommend it.
Avery Shaw is one of my favorite characters. I love her snark and dogged determination to solve crimes and "win" getting her story. Not to mention her relationship with Elliott is the dream we all want. Someone who loves all of you even the annoying parts & doesn't want to change you. A fun, sarcastic and laughing out load read while trying to solve the cozy mystery.
Avery Shaw is in fine form and with Eliot on her side there is nothing they can’t accomplish! Amanda M. Lee has completely outdone herself with this latest book. This is probably my favorite of her series with the Mystic Caravan as a super close second. Definitely family friendly on all fronts and collection worthy.
This was a fun read and very amusing. It may be a favorite in the series. I liked the mystery and the character interaction. I would have enjoyed a couple lines (or short paragraph) at the end with Avery bragging about scooping everyone but that's just me.
This is a really good series of books to read. I love reading books by Ms. Lee. Her stories flow easily and keep you entertained. I never felt like there was a lull in the story or a lot of unnecessary filler. She is a very gifted and creative author. You won't be sorry to buy this book.
I love all of Avery’s adventures and I love how Eliot supports her. My only complaint is some of the scenes I questioned if I already read this book. They felt familiar , like in Tad’s office, but there were small distinctions. I never get sick of this series! I enjoy reading Avery growing some and owning when she doesn’t.
For a few of these books I thought maybe the series had lost its spark and I was going to have to give up on it but this edition was great. The characters were back to being authentically quirky people. The mystery kept me guessing until the end. And, I laughed out loud at a couple parts while flying on an airplane. Good stuff!
I’m a huge Amanda fan, and Avery is my favorite. This installment did not disappoint. Lots of snark, some Mario scenes I’ll never “unsee” and a few scenes that had me laugh loud enough to wake my husband. I hope Amanda never gets tired of writing Avery. I’d miss her like a friend.
I have read all 22 books in the Avery Shaw series. Every one of them is the best entertainment you can read. Highly recommend them. Keep up the great work Amana M. Lee just please write them faster I'm hooked on them.
I just love Avery. She lives life on her terms but we have seen her grow and becoming a mature person. Her and Eliot make me smile can’t wait to see what they get into next. Loved it
Started reading her Witches of the Midwest Series and loved them all! Avery Shaw is my 2nd favorite! Love Amanda’s “snarky’ writing and have loved everything I’ve read that she’s written!
I love your sense of humor very similar to mine and I also enjoy the character of Avery Shaw you write her spectacularly. I look forward to the next installment of this series.
I love this series! The characters are so wild and fun, full of snark and sarcasm. Absolutely loved Cousin Mario in this one too! Can’t wait for the next adventures of Avery!
Loved the mystery in this book. It's a great addition to the series. Everything ties in nicely at the end. I don't want to give spoilers, but... Charlie Thundersnow is back. The visual had me laughing. Looking forward to the next Avery adventure.
I love this series Avery is one of my favourite character every she is funny and in this book I laughed out loud her cousin omg the picture that I got was just hilarious.
Every time I finish an Avery Shaw book, I feel that Amanda M. Lee has hit the top of her game and it’ll all be downhill going forward. Happily, this author proves me wrong with each new book! She never disappoints…and Overedited & Underpaid doesn’t either!
Awesome fast paced read with lots of humor and snarky comments between characters, murder at a strip club and a new religion in town and trouble abounds. Avery and Eliot are right in the middle of the action.Great read, loved it
Well it was another exciting and hilarious episode! I've thoroughly enjoyed reading every Avery Shaw story so far. I look forward to many more episodes in the future!
