"My momma need me to help with the wash...I ain't coming to school no more."
Hopefully Addy can find a way to help her friend and find her missing family members - where there's a will, there's a way.
"Someday?" Mrs. Moore interrupted gently. "Addy, we got to eat today and pay for this here room tomorrow. Sarah needing new boots right now. We can't be dreaming about someday."
Connie Rose Porter. How dare you write this. Rip my heart out while your are at it, I don't need it anymore.
"Addy froze. Her heart was pounding the way it had pounded the night she and Momma escaped to freedom."
