I think this has been my favorite of the series so far. The story is fast paced, has lots of adventure and heart pounding romance. I enjoyed the Mad men’s unusual pets. I thought the pets added humor to the story. I am looking forward to the rest in the series.
Aidan MacKeefe is the current guardian of the Stone of Destiny (a coronation stone belonging to the Scots and coveted by the English). Aidan sleeps with the stone under his palette as his pillow and dreams of his ‘Angel,’ the woman he is destined to marry. Effie MacDuff and her sister Coira are being held captive because they are descended from the woman who defied the English and returned the once stolen stone to the Scots. To gain their freedom, Effie must find and bring the stone to her captors. When Aidan finds Effie at the Glasgow fair, he believes her to be his ‘Angel’ and is thrilled. Fate can be wicked, though. He is not so happy when she helps The English soldiers knock him out and steal the stone (he ignored that part of the dream). Here is where the true adventure begins. Aidan follows the Effie and the soldiers, but they have quite a head start. Many questions must be answered. Can Aidan find and retrieve the stone? What will become of the sisters? If they somehow live through all of this, can Aiden and Effie find the trust and love they hoped for? You will enjoy finding all the answers.
The MacKeefe clan has got the honour of guarding the Stone of Destiny, and keeping the secret of the fact that the one the English took is not the real one. Adian MacKeefe has been using it as a pillow to sleep on, in the hope it will give him prophetic dreams. His best friends and fellow "mad men " tease him mercilessly when he tells them of the dream he had. Effie MacDuff and her younger sister have been captured by an English lord because of her family's historic connection with the Stone. He will go to any lengths to find and take control of it to give to the English King. Effie must protect her sister even if that means betraying her heritage. Lots of laughs and danger in this second book in the series. The relationship between the Mad Men MacKeefe is as strong as brothers. Their unusual pets also give us lots of giggles. Our poor heroine has had a hard life and it just got a whole lot harder. Great fun. Now I need to read the last in the box set.
I really liked Aiden and Effie's story. It must have been hard for Effie to choose between betraying the man that she loved and Scotland or saving her sister. Part of me understood the decision she made and the other part wanted to slap her for not just telling Aiden that her sister was in the hands of the English. I felt he could have come up with a plan to rescue her. I really felt that Effie was very foolish to do what she did. None of it would have ever happened had she not made the decision that she did. I couldn't decide, in the end, who was more foolish Effie for listening to Kyla, Aiden's sister or Aiden for not hearing Effie out before condemning her. I thought it was a very good book and I couldn't stop reading it until I found out what happened. Again, Ms. Rose has written another masterpiece.
This story is centred around the Scottish 'Stone of Scone' , the stone that all Scottish kings have been crowned upon. A fake stone was removed by the English, whilst the real stone was guarded by the clans throughout the years. However, loose tongues had given one English Lord the idea that another stone existed, and he used a young woman, with a threat against her sister's life, to find the whereabouts of the stone. In the same breathe, the stone had given foresight to the woman, to our Highlander hero, Aidan, through a dream. It is a dramatic episode and the characters definitely make you laugh at the antics.
I despise the stereotype of musclebound madman Highlanders who speak like simpletons. It's not just the bad attempt at dialect, it's Aiden's inability to keep a very important secret, to be instantaneously in love with an equally stupid girl who's obviously too inquisitive, no one trusts her, and the fact everyone just shrugs at the end and takes her back in the fold.
Stupid storyline, cartoonish villains, and simpleminded characters all around. Even the pet shtick and squirrel up the caber--twice!--were ridiculous.

Aidan - a madman MacKeefe with a loose tongue and an eye for the lassies, when he set eyes on Effie he is sure that she is the woman of his dreams. Effie is descended from a famous Scotswoman who was kept prisoner in a cage by the English for 4 years and is a heroine in Scotland but what cares Effie about her heritage and being true to her roots, when her sister Coira's life is at stake. A fun read, about impossible choices; with the Stone of Destiny at the heart of the story.

The love story of Aidon and Effie. Effie and her sister are heal by an English lord who the Stone of Destiny. Effie must get the stone or he will kill her sister. Sidon is the guardian of the stone and he sleep on it. Can Effie get stone and save her sister or can Sidon keep it save? Great story.
This is a fast paced story with plenty of action. Effie is a woman torn between two loyalties, her sister and her country. She is also very attracted to Aidan. Aidan and his fellow cohorts are as strong and brave as usual, nothing is too much for them. At times they do seem like super heroes! Is Aidan’s love strong enough for Effie to overcome her betrayal of Scotland? An entertaining read.
I listened to the audiobook of this story. Narrator was good. Aidan is the second book in this series. He is the guardian of the Stone of Destiny, and uses it as his pillow. While sleeping he dreams of a Scottish angel and vows to protect her. Of course, he meets Effie and knows that she is his destiny. There is mystery and of course romance involved. Good story.
Aidan, one of three friends known as the Madmen MacKeefe, falls in love. But when the woman he loves turns to treachery and betrayal, their road to happiness is fraught with trials, intrigue, and dangers.
This book holds many breathtaking moments while you wait to see if Effie will truly betray Aidan or if her love for him will keep her from deceiving him. This has become one of my favorite books! Great work Ms Rose!
Elizabeth Rose may have attempted to keep things as authentic as possible but she did so at the expense of her story. Aidan was full of puerile conversation and action, and flat, annoying characters. This was a shame as the ideas behind the plot had potential.
Good action, loving book. The English and Scottish at each other again. Those of you that like pets, Sudan has a cute little squirrel. There is also a wildcat as The Great Dane. They all turn into a chasing mess. Nice book.
This is Aidan and Effie’s story. All she wants to do is save her sister. She had no intention of falling in love with the highlander. Aidan fell hard for her on site. He did not believe she would betray Scotland. Love will make you do things you never thought possible. I enjoyed this book so much.
Aidan and Effie’s road to romance was definitely not smooth but in true Elizabeth Rose style it was mixed with adventure, danger and humour. Much of the humour comes in the form of the unusual pets kept by the 3 Madmen MacKeefe. Simply an enjoyable addition to this series. Recommended.
I love Book two . Aidan is my favorite so far. In this lovely romance he experiences love hate and hurt. But the ending was my favorite. He asks for her to stay instead of marriage first. This author is one of my favorites because the way she writes her books with a little of everything in it.

Like the fact that Aiden is one of the Madmen he still has the heart of a boy and a little dangerous. Effie will do anything to save her sister. Makes for exciting reading.
I have mixed feelings about Aidan, the last book in the collection. Starting with the positives, I loved the history and rich cultural significance behind the concept, with the Stone of Destiny featuring so prominently. All throughout this collection, I have enjoyed the fact that the writing is so heavily informed by the author’s historical research, and even though the characters and plots are fictitious, it’s nice that their world is grounded in reality and historical events that (to a degree) actually did take place.
On the flipside, I found the characters in this book a little lacklustre. Aidan and Effie are the main characters, yet they lacked any real depth and emotion which was a real shame. Similarly, the whole concept of Effie being Aidan’s ‘Dream Angel’ was overwhelmingly cliché and sickeningly sweet. I’m all for romance, but this just took it a step too far!
All in all, the positives and negatives add up to create an enjoyable, light-hearted, historical read – in fact, providing the perfect way to sum up this collection.
