Ian MacKeefe is haunted by the demons in his head, taunting him of his tarnished past. And then in the fire on All Hallow's Eve, he sees the face of Tearlach MacTavish, the man he'd killed and buried three years ago. Not a settling thought since this is the night when the veil is pushed aside and the dead are said to be able to come back to life.
Kyla has grown up with Ian, as her brother is his best friend. And while Ian thinks of her as naught more than a wee sister, she has fallen in love with him through the years, and plans on proving to him she is much more than he thinks.
But love is the last thing on Ian's mind, especially when their clan chieftain makes an alliance with their enemies, betrothing Kyla to the MacTavishes - and Ian is faced with more demons once again.
Can Ian overcome his past before it's too late for him to notice that the lassie he's considered naught more than a wee sister, Kyla, is a strong, beautiful woman who he is about to lose forever?

The third in a series and if you have not read the other two, I encourage you to do so! Ian MacKeefe is tortured by his past and even his closest friends Aidan and Onyx do not know his whole story. He was away from his clan for over a year and when he came back he was a changed man. He feels he is not worthy of love so goes from one girl to another and never settles down. That is until he is seen by Kyla, Aidan's sister when he is seducing another woman. Kyla has always remained a child in Ian's mind but when he sets off to teach her a lesson for spying and gives her a kiss, all that changes. You will love this journey of Ian and Kyla with a little magic thrown in to entertain you!!
Maybe I shouldn't have read this one right after The Baron's Bounty by the same author. I got soooooo sick of reading the Scottish accent. I know they're Scottish because we can't go half a page with the author reminding me! It threw me out of the story time and time again as I tried to figure out what they were saying. I wonder, would it be annoying to a Scottish person?
But the biggest problem here is that the h, Kyle, oh, I mean Kyla (Kyle is the dog, which isn't confusing at all*), has a serious case of the TSTLs. Nearly every time Ian, our H, asks her to do something to help the situation, she manages to foul things up. She just has to prove to him that she's not a little girl anymore, and does this by doing the stupidest thing possible while acting like a little girl. The only reasons they aren't both dead are a lot of extremely fortuitous coincidences, and a sudden Samson-like burst of strength from Ian. Or a termite nest in the stocks.
I also didn't feel the chemistry between Ian and Kyla. Sure, he's attracted to her, physically, but that's not enough in my view to take him from "she's the annoying little sister of my best friend, who was raised in the same house as me" to "ILoveYouForeverMarryMeNow".
I did like Ian and his back story. He had an actual character arc, which is nice in a romance book. Kyla, not so much. We see lots of cameos by the characters of the previous books, which meant nothing to me since I hadn't read them. I wasn't left with too much or not enough explanation about them, so they were integrated well.
Overall, I think the major problem in this book was the one character (Kyla) and not the author or the plot. If I hadn't already read another by Elizabeth Rose, I would be wary of reading others. But I did like the other book and will eventually read the rest of the box set I got. I just need a break from the written accent.
Ian’s book would make a great Halloween read. Aiden’s sister Kyla has always loved Ian, who was found as an infant and raised in the household with Aiden and Kyla. Ian still treats her as a kid sister, or he did at the beginning of the story. Kyla is betrothed to a MacTavish as part of an alliance for peace and protection. Ian knows this clan, as he secretly lived with them for a year, and does not trust them. He goes with Kyla to the MacTavish Castle as protection and to try to stop the betrothal. Once inside the castle, Ian finds that he is right not to trust them. How can Kyla be betrothed to a man Ian killed and buried three years earlier? Is there a way to find out what’s really going on and to stop the betrothal? Somewhere in the middle of all this, Ian finally realizes that he loves Kyla and now has one more reason to stop the betrothal. It’s rough going, but they get help from some unlikely sources, including a mysterious beggar woman in a hooded cloak who seems to appear just when she or her information is needed. Who is she? Can they all work together to banish the enemy and try to bring peace? Is it possible that during this struggle, Ian can learn more about his past and who he really is? Maybe? You won’t believe this one! Ian’s story brings the saga to a wonderful conclusion. I really enjoyed the great characters, exciting story with plenty of danger, adventure, and mystery, and Tim Campbell’s entertaining narration.
I absolutely loved Ian and Kyla's story. Ian and Kyla grew up together and she followed her brother Aiden and his best friend Ian around doing much of the same things they did. Ian saw Kyla as just a pest, bent on ruining his time with other women. It wasn't until Kyla was betrothed to Tearloch McTavish that he noticed her in a different way. Up until then, she was just the little sister of his best friend. Kyla loved Ian her entire life but it was difficult for her to get him not only to see it but to accept it as Ian did not think he was capable of love. When they discovered that the MacTavish Clan wanted an alliance with the Mackeefe Clan, there was definitely something wrong there and the MacTavish Clan was not all that they seemed. Just as things were about to take a turn for the worst, Ian professes his love to Kyla and with the assistance of three other clans, they win the day. I really liked this book especially the climactic ending and the battle scenes. But I did think that Kyla was rather foolish and not listening to Ian especially when he told her to leave and be safe. She had to turn around and try to save him but she ended up getting in a bigger mess. It was only at the end that they made things right. If I could have rated this book higher, I would have.
Ian was a foundling brought up by the MacKeefe clan. He has a darkness in him because he has always wondered about who his real family was. He considers the other two "mad men MacKeefe " like brothers. A man doesn't make a move on the little sister of his best friend. He did try to find his own family but decided he preferred the clan he grew up in. Kayla MacKeefe has followed her brother and his two best friends around since she can remember, but her feelings for Ian are those of a woman not a pesky little sister. She is twenty years old now and her brother and his friends still treat her like a child. This is the third in a series that should really be read in order. There is lots of danger and adventure in this story. As it set around Halloween there is a little bit of a spooky feel to it. Our hero tries his best to be a good man, but carries a secret that affects everything he does. Our heroine is a brave an independent woman, who is fed up with being over protected by the men in her family. A wonderful box set that covers three sexy Highlanders and their strong women. I loved every page.
I didn't realize it was a third book in the series when I started reading it and it didn't matter. The story of Ian and Kyla can be a standalone and it didn't feel like I was missing out on a backstory of either of the characters. Ian was found as a baby at the ruins of an abandon castle and was taken by Kyla's parents, who raised him as their own. Kyla's older brother and Ian are best friends and Kyla spend all her life hanging out her older sibling and his friends. Ian has always views Kyla as annoying little sister who is constantly pestering them, but Kyla is no longer a little girl and she has always had secret crush on Ian. Due to some political dealings between warring Scottish clans, Kyla is now betrothed to be married and Ian is finally realizing that it won't be easy to let Kyla go, because he just might be having feelings for her now too. Ian doesn't trust the clan that made the alliance and he is determined to stop the wedding at all costs. I loved the pacing of the story, the characters, and even the Scottish accents.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. I like the characters and the author is a very good storyteller. The historical times and the blend of romance were well matched. There was intrigue and suspense. The characters were a refreshing blend of darkness and superstitions. I enjoyed reading this book. This is Ian and Kyla’s story. Ian is Adain’s friend. Adain and Kyla are siblings, They all grew up together Ian sees Kyla as a little sister, but she loves him. She has to prove to him she is grown up and that she is more than a little sister to her brother and his friend. First they have to face some hard experiences to be able to love each other. I loved this story. I highly recommend this series
Absolutely best writer indeed. My first one is Danielle Steele and John Grisham . But now Elizabeth Rose.
I like all Elizabeth Rose' s stories. They are historical, short, funny, clever, romantic, fun to read and sometimes crazy characters from Walt Disney lol. The plot does not drag way too much just to explain one thing. Simple in style but carries a lot of depth. I started out with only one story, then I went to almost all of her series. I really appreciate and love your writing style. I love the characters name, the magic involved. Thank you so much. You are an absolutely brilliant writer but yet you made it sound simple. Good job indeed.
Ian, last book (3 ) in MadMan MacKeefe Series. This may yet be my favorite. A love filled story full of past demons and madness . A handsome strong warrior with a past that has haunted him for a life time. Brining back bad memories on All Hallow's Eve, a holiday they celebrate the dead. Ian thought he didn't belong anywhere or with anyone. Kyla a love sick woman loved Ian since she was a child. Ian only saw her as his best friend wee sister, so he ignored her all the times, but she fought for his love until he finally realizes there is light and love at the end of the tunnel. Elizabeth Rose is an amazing writer who keeps delivering amazing books.
Kyla has had a secret crush on her brother's friend, Ian MacKeefe, since she was a young lass. Ian has always thought of Kyla as a little sister who followed him everywhere he went.
Now she is all grown up and Ian Is starting to see her as a woman. After one kiss, he can't stop thinking of her. What will happen once Ian finds out that Kyla suddenly becomes betrothed to his worst enemy.
Kyla feels betrayed when she finds out that Ian has been keeping a secret from the MacKeefe clan. Will Ian save Kyla before it's to late
"Ian" the book was so down to earth i was a only girl with 6 brothers so i could relate to Kyla and the way she felt about her brothers best friend, i love the character Ian, hes see Kyla as he always had a small girl that follows the boys around and gets on their nerves, but when did she become a young lady , Ian is a strong character, this book will make me laugh, cry and I get mad because this book had me riding alone for their adventure
Found abandoned as a babe, Ian wanted to know his roots, however, the time he went looking for answers, he now wanted to forget. Then there was Kyla, a sister to Aiden, Ian's best friend, so even way back in the 14th Century, the Bro Code was enforced. "Do not touch a friend's sister, in an inappropriate manner!" Kula wasn't a child any longer, and she knew what she wanted, however, fate took a hand in how she would get it. Great story!
Really enjoyed your story. Kayla and Ian went through so much h to finally be together It was all worth it as they finally got.married.
Thought this story was a Hilander story they are all so power ful to get back all there clans and made it a better t to live. Thanks for a goodread. Diane DeMoul I

This is Ian and Kyla’s story. Ian is Adain’s friend. Adain and Kyla are siblings. They all grew up together. Ian sees Kyla as a little sister, but she sees him as her love. She has to prove to him she is grown up and that she is more than a little sister to her brother and his friend. First they have to face some hard experiences to be able to love each other. I loved this story.
I listened to the audiobook of this story. Great narration. Last book in the Madman MacKeefe Series and it was good. Ian has tried to forget his past, but it won't let him forget. When a man he thought he killed, returns from the dead. Plus he is starting to have feelings for his best friends sister, Kyla. He is in trouble.
The love story of Ian and Kyla. Ian has many secrets. He is not a true MacKeefe he was found in a witch's castle as a baby. One dark secret and one he dosr not know.will all his secrets come to lite? Great story.
Twists and turns, war and love. Wonderful secrets slowly revealed with much passion. Love this tale of ancient time. Enchantment, power and honor prevail delightfully.
Unlikable characters, cartoonish and derpy. Why is a man white desirable? Why does a girl who wants to be seen as a woman so childishly stubborn and uncooperative? Just so much that irked me, right down to the trip of maniacs and their ridiculous pets.
Enjoyed Ian and Kyla’s story. He was tortured by a past no one knew of. Kyla was seen as his friend’s little sister who becomes a woman in his eyes overnight.
The last, but definitely not least book of the series. I loved Kyla's determination and strength and Ian's surprising backstory. Another one sitting book from an author who does not disappoint.
