Seasons of Revenge #1

Tis the Season for Revenge

Rate this book
Abbie Keller thought that Richard Bartholemew Benson the Third would be her forever. In their four years of dating, she never doubted that she would end up with his grandmother’s engagement ring on her finger. Sure, she had to change a few things about herself to fit that mold, like dyeing her hair, dressing more conservatively, and finding golf enjoyable (honestly the most difficult of the changes), but she was sure that at the end of it all, it would be worth it.

That is, until he leaves her crying outside her apartment wearing a Halloween costume, having broken it off with her because she’s just not serious enough. She was just fun, he tells her - and now that Richard has becoming a partner at his law firm in his sights, he needs to focus on work.

So she does what every girl does when she’s broken up she calls her friends, gets drunk, dyes her hair, and formulates her plan for revenge. It just so happens that the universe supports her efforts and gives her the perfect match to prove to her ex that he made a huge his boss.

Abbie starts dating the founding partner of Richard’s law firm, Damien Martinez, with one thing in convincing him to invite her to the huge annual Christmas party as his date.

But when the relationship starts to become something more than casual dating and Abbie sees that the tough New York lawyer has a soft side, will she be able to follow through with her plan of deceit?

Tis the Season for Revenge is a contemporary, grumpy sunshine, age-gap, Christmas romance.

It is a full-length romance with a Happily Ever After that features sexually explicit material and profanity. This book is intended for 18+

She usually has headphones on, listening to some spicy audiobook or Taylor Swift. There is rarely an in between.

Writing has been her calling for as long as she can remember. There’s a framed ‘page one’ of a book she wrote at seven hanging in her childhood home to prove the point. Her entire life she’s crafted stories in her mind, begging to be released but it wasn’t until recently she finally gave them the reigns.

If you like Legally Blonde and Christmas vibes, then this is the book to pick up.

Plot- 3.5/5🌟
Spice- 4/5🌶️

✔️Revenge trope (duh)
✔️Age gap romance
✔️Insta love

Oh wow, I did not expect to enjoy it this much especially the second half. It was a rollercoaster of emotions- anger in the beginning, joy in the middle, a mix of disappointment and anxiety in the last 20% and a sweet delicious ending in the last 5%.

Guys when I tell you the smut is so juicy, I mean it. It's really toe curling potential tbh and I'm not downplaying it at all.

My only problem with the book (which is why I don't rate it 5 stars) is the FMC and how insta lusty/lovey it was. I'm sorry, I know I was supposed to like her but I couldn't. She was annoying and full of "facepalm" worthy bad decision maker. I did have sympathy for her but she was too pink for me. Wait that makes me sound like a borderline Richard. Dang it. I also like my romances to be a slow burn which was another miss for me in this one.

I loved Damien. The man is full of charisma, personality, loyalty, passion and all things perfect. Like he did not go wrong anywhere and I loved how utterly fictional he was lmao.

Overall, this is a pretty good Christmas read and one that will make you swoon with the sweetness and hot with the spice.

Also, *pats myself on the back* for completing the reading challenge.

This is a book I KNOW I’ll reread forever. It gave me everything I wanted and more. Ugh, it’s too good!

Every chapter would leave me with such a giddy feeling. 𝐈 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐛𝐜 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐟𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬.

It was so cliche and I still loved the heck out of it. The way they progressed and the way they behaved was ADORABLE. Man I just can’t get over them. 𝗜 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸.. 𝗜 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆’𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝘃 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀.

𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗜 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐒 *𝐌𝐖𝐀𝐇*.
Ugh they’re both just perfect for each other. 𝘼𝙉𝘿 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙉𝙄𝘾𝙆𝙉𝘼𝙈𝙀𝙎 𝙀𝙉𝘿𝙀𝘿 𝙈𝙀 😭💕✨

𝗗𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗲𝗻 was the sweetest, most adoring character ever. His little ways of showing his affection gave me this insane amount of butterflies. And Oof this guy has some serious dirty talk… damn boi. The way he helped her heal was so frigging beautiful and ugh I just love him sm.

𝗔𝗯𝗯𝗶𝗲 gave me life with her inner monologue. I swear she’s so cute and her little character staples were adorable. I despised the way Richard influenced her so much but seeing her loving herself and learning how she should’ve been treated was the best.

𝐈 𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐋𝐘 𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊! It’s fast paced and so good for a slump. But 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤 𝐓𝐖𝐬 bc it does talk about sensitive topics.

𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲:
I’m intrigued by Abbie’s sister's story, I have to check it out soon.

this was so corny 😩

don’t get me wrong, i didn’t hate it. but the way people were talking about this made me think it was going to be life changing, the best holiday romance of all time.

and it wasn’t. glad these two found each other or whatever but they were both uninteresting. i skimmed all the sex scenes after the first one. and why did the end of this book have to have like repetitively awful verbal abuse scenes with the ex?

i have one more christmas read to try this year, hoping it’s more romantic lol

My body rejected this book like that scene from Alien.

This read like Tessa Bailey books, which I loathe entirely. So safe to say it was just like not for me. The writing style, the hero, the heroine, the words used. I’ve never really experienced the ick quicker than I did with Damien. But then again Abigail tried her hardest to get me to tap out. I nearly DNFed at 32% but people don’t like when someone DNFs and writes a review so here we are.

In terms of writing style, it just felt like a lot. It took 18% for them to meet, and when he finally said “hi” she went on an inner monologue for FIVE pages. And then she was like “oh hi.” She did this a lot.

For your displeasure, I compiled some of my ick words, including the number of times I read them. Not numbered: the amount of times I nearly broke down in tears.

“!” - I can’t search the exact number of exclamation points but good! god!

“yeah” - 113 - and of those 31 are “yeah?” when he wants to articulate a thought. It’s all that man says somebody get him a thesaurus and somebody get me the iodine, yeah?

“Baby” - 66 - yes he called her baby 66 times, including at least three times on the first date. My personal hell. He also likes country music so maybe this was a clever homage to the Cars classic, Route 66.

“Christmas” - 50 - while mentioned half a hundred times, this book was very much not holiday vibes. She just wanted to go to a Christmas party that happened at the end of the book.

“Honey” - 15 - which she called him on the first date!good god this was nearly as bad as baby

“Good girl” - 13 - 10 too many for one book bc it loses all impact

“Gurgle” - 2 - well gurgle just isn’t a sexy word and that coupled with all the babies…I don’t like

“Fuckuva” - 1 - well he found the thesaurus and then birthed this monster

“Reese Witherspoon and Luke Wilson” - 1 - leave them out of this

And a partridge in a pear tree.

⭐️.5/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️.75*/5

*the language noted above made me hate the sex scenes, of which there were many

Note: A conversation involving STIs used the word clean.

What to do if your boyfriend of 4 years suddenly dumps you because you're not "marriage material"

✅ post his work phone number on Reddit as "Harry Styles' leaked number"
✅ put glitter in his car vents so when he turns the air on he gets glitter bombed all over his suit
✅ call his tailor and get them to take an inch off all his pants
✅ fuck his boss and get him to take you to the company christmas party

It was a very realistic, NON-REALISTIC book I've read lol 🤡 Some aspects of this book were very relatable, and this book was a perfect balance between cheesy romance and the sad, brutal truth of life! I have a really big rant coming on a serious topic though....

╰┈➤ ABIGAIL KELLER & DAMIEN MARTINEZ:

This is about Abigail, who got her heart broken by Richard Dick after 4 years of a relationship because for him, 'she wasn't enough.' To overcome the insecurities and hurt he gave her, she decided to take REVENGE, and the perfect revenge plan was created when she was matched with Damien, the boss of Richard, on a dating app!

Abbie — her character in this book was more than the pink sunshine-y vibes she was said to have! What I really concluded from her entire personality is that she had attachment issues, and A LOT (and not saying that randomly, her childhood was bad too because of parents). Her character didn't annoy me, and her emotions were kinda relatable in many aspects, but I can't really say that she got character development and turned into a strong person — it was more like she found a perfect man, and life goes on and on.

Damien — he was actually amazing! His type of people are just the best ones! The ones who make you feel comfortable and confident, who don't judge you for being yourself, the ones who wouldn't make you feel insecure! His character was all good, and he was just fun to be around, if you can say, and umm he's also someone who would set their boundaries and respect others too! I loved how he made Abbie feel and listened to her. ✨

╰┈➤ Rants:

RELATIONSHIP TRAUMA IS REAL! I liked how everything about the trauma is explained in this book. The way Abbie realized each and every messed up thing her ex made her do, now that she's not wearing rose-tinted glasses! When you're so in love with someone who doesn't like you being yourself, you sometimes compromise so much just to please the other person that you lose a part of yourself, and you're not the person you used to be. You start hating yourself, the things you do, and second-guess your choices because the other person made you feel less about yourself. All these emotions were present here. I mostly relate to Cam and Kat because as a friend who had this experience with a friend, I can 100% say it's terrible, not just for the person going through this, but for the friends as well. Personally, I felt bad and regretted that I couldn't do anything for her, and even though you warn them, you just have to stay quiet because they are the ones in love, and they won't see what you're trying to tell them unless they realize it themselves. I related to this aspect of the book because I've seen all this comparing and having no self-esteem shit in real life!

— Abbie kept comparing everything Damien was doing with what Richard used to do and kept overthinking the worst-case scenarios and didn't allow herself to be HERSELF! The standards set by Richard were so engraved into her mind that even though she hated them, she hated herself more for following them. She was insecure, had no self-esteem, and felt bad because even though you do everything for the other person, 'YOU'RE NOT ENOUGH' for them. It gets super toxic that some days you sit and think that maybe it was you who did something wrong that they left you because.

— The one-night stand and enjoying the date part are real, but having full-on obsession and attachment is kind of a stretch.... so yeah, this book is falling into INSTA-LUST category 😭 I mean, on the first night, Damien started saying YOU'RE MINE and MINE MINE MINE again, and it was too much for me? They're not serious for commitment but exclusive in their seeing each other, but they actually had so much sex in only weeks, and some scenes were cute and over the top nice things, but everything was too rushed! It was just too quick for Abbie to forget about the 4 years and fall in love quickly again! The insecurities remained, but you can't completely get over a person that fast, even I know that lol 🥹, so the relationship development was really quick!

— In the end, when Damien found out about everything, he didn't act all petty and angry but handled things a bit more maturely, and it didn't cause a third-act breakup. But to be very honest, what Abbie did with him was pretty fucked up! Imagine dating someone just to get back at your ex — to make them regret that they lost you and you're worth it — but INSTEAD of falling in love like Abbie did... what if you don't? What if you try but just couldn't fall for them and end up hurting them just as badly as you were hurt? It's a book, and I shouldn't care much, but I just couldn't help it! I wouldn't like it if this happened in real life. This was pretty bad.

╰┈➤ FINAL THOUGHTS:

Would I recommend it? Yes. It's good for reading in one sitting or if you're looking for a book just to pass your time! But it's pretty forgettable! 🤷🏻‍♀️

The nickname RUBIA (blonde) couldn't be more original! 💀

i’m going to make a very bold claim but… tis the season for revenge is THE holiday romance of 2022.

if you are a legally blonde, rom com, age gap, banter, or rich hero lover, this is an absolute must read.

i literally read this paperback (which we all know is slower than reading a kindle) in 3 hours.

abbie gets broken up with by her boring and controlling boyfriend of 4 years on halloween but when her friends come over and they start drunkenly swiping on dating apps, abbie spots her ex’s boss that he always complained about and vows that getting with him would be the sweetest revenge. except, he turns out to be a perfect boyfriend ok I’m obsessed with damien.

i loved abbie so much. she’s elle woods-inspired in that she’s a lover of all things girly and sparkly but her ex coerced her into dying her hair darker, toning down her appearance, and toning down her personality. and we’ve all been there when a dud tries to bring us down to make themselves feel better.

daddy damien has one date with abbie and is like, bring on the sparkle baby because you love it and i love you. he’s so thoughtful and hotttttt af. SO many cute gestures, i went through two things of book tabs and this book is only 280 pages.

this book is EVERYTHING: funny, spicy, and so sweet and romantic. and it reads so so quick <3

This is absolutely my new favorite holiday romance!! At halloween, Abbie's boyfriend of four years breaks up with her for not being serious enough. Later that night, Abbie matches with his boss on a dating app and creates a plan with her friends to date the hotter, older, and richer boss and show up to her ex's Christmas party on his arm. What she doesn't expect, though, is a super sweet man who puts her first and who she starts falling head over heels for. You know the closer they grow together that things are definitely going to blow up when he learns why she really started dating him, but that actually didn't bother me. I loved seeing how sweet Damien was and how he truly fell for Abbie. He was a super successful and serous lawyer, but he knows how to treat a woman and wanted her to know her worth. This is a hot age gap romance and I just loved everything about it! It definitely has Legally Blonde vibes but at Christmas and it was just perfect!

2.5 ⭐️ To be honest, this just wasn’t for me. I loved Damien as an MMC and the spice was top notch, but there were too many things about the writing style that bothered me to make this enjoyable.

Plus, the FMC drove me crazy. I’ll be the first to say my issue with her is personal to me - strong and resilient is my preference when it comes to a leading lady and the constant repetition of statements like “I’m so fucking stupid” and “I’m so pathetic” was more than I could bear.

Yes, she got fooled by a man, but so have many other smart and beautiful women. That doesn’t make her stupid, that makes HIM stupid.

Stand up girl and know your worth.

“I am absolutely wild about you. You are my sun and my moon, and I will be yours. You completely consume me.”

This was such a sweet, fluffy, and adorable book. I enjoyed it a lot. All those sweet and domestic moments between Abigail and Damien were so cute. This is the kind of book where you feel butterflies dancing in your stomach because of the adorable moments between Abigail and Damien. The plot is fast-paced. There is banter, small acts of love and care. The side characters were amazing too—I loved Kat and Cam and how they were always there for Abigail. Their friendship was perfect.

Abigail’s shitty ex-boyfriend broke up with her on Halloween night when she was dressed like a bunny, and that dickhead told her she was just for fun and that she was too much. And then all three girls (Abigail, Kat, and Cam) got together and made a revenge plan for the bald ex-boyfriend. All their revenge ideas were hilarious. Abigail’s dating profile matched with Richard’s boss on a dating app, and she decided, “I’m gonna fuck his boss.” I know this woman is dramatic, but I liked her over-the-top personality. They started dating and falling in love, and they both decided it wasn’t serious. But who were they kidding?

“What brings you joy, Damien?” she asks, her voice low and soft.
“Right now? It’s standing right in front of me.”

Damien Martinez is just so perfect. He’s sweet, caring, kind, thoughtful, funny, and the most adoring character who knows how to treat his woman. He never let Abigail question anything about herself. And his sweet little acts of love were everything. He made Abigail feel cherished, appreciated, loved, and beautiful. He’s perfect for her. And he calls her Naranja and Rubia and so many other nicknames. And he sure knows how to use his mouth perfectly. He’s such a dirty talker, and it was so freaking hot.

“Boys might not, baby. But men? Men love to make a woman scream their name while their head is between her legs.”

Abigail Keller is all pink, sunshine, and sparkle, and I’m happy she’s not trying to change herself just because a man thinks she’s too much. She was a lot sometimes, annoying, with how she acted in this book. I liked her character growth, though, and how she finally decided to accept herself as she was. Because fuck those men.

“Because the reality is, he wasn’t enough. And he’s right: I am too much. I am too much for him because he always should have deserved less.”

Abigail and Damien are both just so freaking adorable and sexy. I don’t know who said that Damien Martinez is a grumpy man because it didn’t feel like that. Some scenes were corny, but you know what? I ate that shit up. I’ve never read the Age Gap trope because I thought it wasn’t my cup of tea. But this was my first book with this particular trope, and it didn’t disappoint—not even a bit. I loved Damien and Abigail’s relationship and how Damien always made her feel loved and comfortable. It was just perfect. And the spice in this book? Just immaculate and perfect. The only thing that bothered me was the insta-love thing. I mean, they just met, and then Damien took her to his apartment to fuck her. Not that I’m complaining, because that scene was just hot.

“You want big, and you want sparkle, and you want extravagance. Not in price, but in love and adoration. And right here, right now, I’m promising to spend the rest of my life giving you that. Say yes, and I’ll make you feel loved and cherished and appreciated until my last breath. Say yes, and I’ll help you paint the world pink. Say yes, and we’ll forever be completely consumed by each other.”

“You consume me. I don’t know how you did it, but I have fallen madly, deeply in love with you.”

The ending was so cute. They got married, and those chapters were perfect! If you haven’t read the bonus chapter, go right now and read it.

If you’re in the mood for a fluffy and sweet romance story with Christmas and Legally Blonde vibes, this book is for you. Plus, everyone needs to meet Damien Martinez!

I’m speechless! This was such a perfect romance book! Especially for this season.
I’m so not ready to let them go but omg I LOVED it😭

Tropes:
- Instant love
- Heartbreak
- Self discovery
- Age Gap
- Possessive alpha male

Everything starts with an ugly break up and Abbie’s plan for revenge. She wants to make sure her stupid ex knows what he lost. And she decides the best way to do this is to fuck his boss. But the boss in question has no idea what’s going on. He’s just dtf.

Damien is a dream man. He falls for Abbie on their first date. He had no intentions to, just wanted some fun but he starts calling her his soulmate almost immediately 🥺 I love him. I want him. I need him.
The words he says makes me think maybe men are allowed to speak after all.

“I don’t share. I’m a very possessive man. What’s mine is mine.”

“I don’t date. I downloaded that stupid app on a whim and my dream girl dropped in my lap.”

“You were listening.”
“I always listen to you.”

“What brings you joy, Damien?”
“Right now? It’s standing right in front of me.”

“This is what you get for turning me into a desperate man. This is what you get for consuming my thoughts.”

“You make me happy. I’ll do what it takes to prove it to you.”

“I want everyone to know I’m the luckiest person alive. I have a woman on my arm who is every man’s wet dream but only I get to play with her.”

“I’m falling head over heels for you, and even if you weren’t with me, I’d drag you along.”

“You consume me. I don’t know how you did it but I have fallen madly, deeply in love with you.”

“Whatever you want, you ask and it’s yours.”

I COULD GO ON AND ON BECAUSE THIS MAN NEVER STOPS BEING PERFECTION!!!

I loved Abbie too. I could relate to a lot of parts of her. She is amazing, she is unapologetically herself even though a certain someone tried to force her to be someone else🙄
Her friends and sister are great too! They are so real with her. I loved Kat the most. Especially when she sees Damien for the first time💀
“Calm the fuck down, Kat. He’s just a man.”
“That is not a man, Abigail. That is a god.”

Honestly, relatable 🤣 You don’t see hot, successful, tall, sexy, smart men in their 40s that often. I’d be drooling too ngl.

I couldn’t stop reading, I needed to know what happens next. Every chapter keeps you on your toes. The ending was so well written. Exactly what they needed, these two are made for each other!
The spicy scenes were CHEF’S KISS😩

P.S. if you haven’t read the bonus chapter, go do it nowwwwww!

“I’m going to date his boss. I’m going to make his boss fall for me, and I’m going to go to that stupid fucking Christmas party Richard never wanted to take me to, and I’m going to show him what a mistake he made by playing Abigail Keller.” 😈

lmao, this is one book i want turned into a movie because:

1. the “petty revenge on an ex” trope might be tired and unoriginal, but it is also timeless and relatable.
2. i want to see the climax “Christmas party” showdown in technicolor. 🤣
3. the friendship in this book is everything ive wanted and more.
4. this book is so “Better Than Revenge” by Taylor Swift coded.

this book is corny and cheesy the way romance books are, but i would totally get down on my knees if Damien Martinez (H) crooked his finger at me and called me his dirty little wh*r*. 🧎 🧎 hes so...suave, but when you get him to the bedroom...all bets are off. i love the way he always cups his palm over the h’s neck to feel her pulse. it looks dominant but tender at the same time. 🥰

“This was always more, Abigail. I don’t blame you for wanting revenge. If you had told me from the start, I would have agreed. Richard’s an ass. An ass who won’t have a job after the holidays.”

my biggest quibble with this book is the “lie by omission” conflict (how the h takes advantage of the H to futher her own agenda). 😑 i understand perfectly why the h goes about involving the H the way she does, but it would be less drama if she’d simply propose her idea to the H (he would totally help her). i suppose their romance would have no stakes if it happened the way i preferred.

“Every day you showed me what I was worth and that I deserved more than someone tolerating my presence. I deserved to be equal in a relationship instead of an assistant to some man. It took one date with you to see you were nothing like I had been told. It took one visit to Rollard’s to know you were a good man. It took one trip home to realize that you and I were something more.”

another thing i object is the timeline. its fast how the h moves on from one man to the next. shes literally dumped by her long term boyfriend one night, goes on a date the next day, and sleeps with her date on their FIRST date (after which she claims the experience is soul-altering/doesnt feel like a rebound). it seems unrealistic, especially considering shes just gotten out of a toxic relationship. 🤧 there should be baggage & trauma to unpack and therapy appointments to go to.

“You consume me. I don’t know how you did it, but I have fallen madly, deeply, in love with you. Every moment of every day is consumed by thoughts of you, planning the future, dying to be with you.”

the friendship dynamic in this book is mostly supportive and heartwarming. however, the last minor niggle i have is with one of the h’s two best friends. shes a jilted man hater who keeps projecting her heartbreak on the h. she annoyed me. i would say Tis the Season for Revenge is NOT perfect, but it was a fun read. i think it would make for a great Christmas romcom movie. FYI, both MCs are childfree, which is fairly rare in this genre. 🙌

I’m disappointed i didn’t like this more…

Right off the bat, I knew I wasn’t going to be that big of a fan of Abbie’s. I really couldn’t stand her personality but at the same time I felt sorry for her because her ex really did a number on her. But idk something with her didn’t hit right.

I really liked Damien. I loved that he showed Abbie what she was missing in a man who treats his woman right. Literally everything he did was very swoon worthy. Especially the scene at Thanksgiving dinner?? THAT was so sweet.

I don’t think we got enough… honestly anything? It just didn’t feel like we got to know each of the characters individually.
We didn’t really see them outside of each other. Like I wanted to see more of Damien’s day as a lawyer kind of thing. And we get a brief glimpse of that in the end but not anything substantial.

Their whole relationship starts out as her getting revenge on her ex by getting with his boss which I loved that. And they both weren’t looking for anything serious but as soon as they go out on one date and they sleep together, those “nothing serious” lines get totally blurred. And that suddenness just didn’t work for me here.

When it all is revealed at the Christmas party, I got second hand embarrassment bcos like we all knew it was going to crash and burn at some point. And then i expected her to have to grovel or at least SOMETHING. And nope. She runs after him and explains and all is well. 🫠 like it was cute what he says in that scene but like ??? Idk. If i expect the men to grovel when they mess up, the same goes for the women.

I really didn’t like her friend Camille? she just wanted this whole thing to go down to get closure for her fuxked up past which made me feel mixed things. Her other friend kat was alright.

Richard is an absolute douche and he deserves to rot and the pranks they pulled on him were absolute top notch 😂

Also, the dialogue was meh. I swear if I have to read the exchange :
“oh?”
“Yeah oh”
One more time…im gonna lose it 😂
And Damien…every time he asked a question it was most always followed up by “,yeah?” For example:
“A little harsh, yeah?” he asks, and it’s a relief.”
“Got it, rubia. See you tomorrow, yeah?”
There’s a lot more but I think you get the idea. Totally fine, it just became really repetitive.
Also, I know it’s been a while since I’ve taken high school Spanish but isn’t “rubia” Spanish for blonde? So my assumption is that it was meant to be used as a term of endearment like “blondie” but what was being used was the word that describes someone’s hair color…so idk that’s just what I substituted every time he called her “rubia”.

And i gotta be honest the smut wasn’t that great 😂 it was so cringey to the point where I really debated if this was worth continuing 💀 it was giving p0rno imo 😅

“Oh.”
“Yeah, oh.”

‘Tis the damn season!! Also, This was the perfect pick for my “one holiday romance per year” because I’m such a moody reader and too much fluff is too much for me!!

This is a book that I know if I think about it too seriously, I’ll see and recognize many red flags. However, I chose to ignore them all for the sake of the holiday spirit and all. It’s a book that is not meant to be taken seriously and I just think that there’s a charm in that.

Damien was such a sweet caring character. I loved how he showed her the affection and love she needed. Abigail was all pink and sparkle. Yes, knowing that this whole thing was just wrong -and begging her internally to just confess even though you know she won’t- was frustrating, because Damien didn’t deserve that. Actually no one deserves that. I actually though that the whole thing will be planned between them before I read this.

“What brings joy should never be embarrassing”

Another time I gave into the hype! This was my first Morgan Elizabeth book and it was a good time. Legally Blonde holiday vibes, age gap romance with a heroine focused on revenge.

When Abbie gets dumped on Halloween by her boyfriend of four years she's crushed. The way he broke it off was awful and he was a trash human being so when she saw his boss on a dating app, she went there. It was all fun and games at first until real feelings started to develop.

I loved watching Abbie come back into her own. Her ex couldn't handle all she was and wanted a watered down version of her. Reminds me of that quote- 'If I'm too much, go find less'. I loved watching her be with someone who not only appreciated her but let her be her. Damien was the best and though this was a bit predictable, it was a lot of fun.

"She loves surprises, I've learned. Not big extravagant things, but little ones. She's simple, my Abigail."

DAMIEN was an absolute delight he's sweet, caring and so hot 🔥🥵 i'm so obsessed with my new husband

ABBIE is my(and damien's) dream girl. as a girl who adores elle woods and pink it was obvious that i was going to love her 🫀and i loved how she gain her self respect throughout the book 🫂

"I punched Richard." He looks at me, confused.
"No, I punched Richard."

my babes were so ready to defend each other!!!! wish i also could punch richard 😡

It was just ok for me. A story about a girl getting petty revenge on her emotionally abusive ex-boyfriend seems right up my alley but I just couldn't vibe with this book. I did love Mr. Damien Martinez though, that man was ridiculously sexy and sweet. Naranja? So damn cute!
I think that I could never really get around her using him like that and letting it go so far. (I never buy in to the "I tried to tell him excuse" it's weak)
I also didn't realize this is book 5 in a series, so there were so many secondary characters I didn't know and it was a bit hard to keep track.

Apparently tis the season for me to read garbage books with cute covers.

Tis the Season for Revenge is definitely the worst one though.
Really, it fucking sucks.

It's a cheap Legally Blonde rip off with terrible characters, an unrealistic as hell love story and the promised revenge that is... just not there.
The only thing this book has going for it is the smut and that's so not enough to not make me regret wasting 7 hours of my life on this bullshit.

But the worst thing is 100% the characters.

Richard the ex-boyfriend is the worst guy you will ever encounter in a book. Like seriously forget Lord Voldemort, Sauron, Dracula and all those other losers.
He treats Abbie like his employee/ sex slave, cheats on her, fat-shames, is misogynistic as hell, and not to mention is he a snob who feels like he is soooo much better than literally anyone else and .... do I really need to say more?

He made Abbie PRETEND to be his fucking secretary in public for fuck's sake.

While I usually love to hate a character, this was just getting ridiculous. He has not a single good quality and it doesn't make any sense that Abbie was with him for 4 fucking years.

Every time she had yet another flashback of Richard doing something horrible to her (and there were a lot of flashbacks) I didn't feel sympathy for her. I was fucking annoyed.

Richard is a walking red flag in any way, but the worst thing that he isn't even clever about it.

I've recently read the Flat Share and while it wasn't exactly my favorite book, I was kind of impressed how manipulative the ex-boyfriend was. There was also a scene that was almost identical to one in this book, so I can't help but compare them:

So for context, the heroines of both books love to dress in a fun colorful way and their bf hate it

In the Flat Share, the guy told her: "Are you sure you want to go like this? Everyone there will look way more professional than you, and I just don't want you to feel uncomfortable"

In Tis the Season for Revenge, Richards tells her: "What are you wearing? Are you dumb? Go change"

Tis the Season For Revenge has the subtlety of a fucking sledgehammer.

Anyway, after Richard breaks up with Abbie she goes from being soooo in love with him to realizing that he is human dog shit in like 3 pages and I was like: oh wow... isn't that a bit too fast?

But then I realized that bouncing between 2 extremes it basically Abbie's whole character. She is either super confident that she can do everything or completely insecure about everything, her life is wonderful or it's awful, she thinks her job as a makeup artist is nothing specially or she thinks she's ✨ an artist and changing lives ✨

.... and that goes on for the whole book like bro please get some help I am concerned for you.

(Not to mention that she also always believes what the last male creature she talks to tells her)

After immediately realizing how terrible Richard treated her, she and her girlfriends want revenge and that's the part I was most excited for and the biggest letdown, as their revenge is fucking shit.

Basically they just put glitter into the vent of his car and the worst thing is WE DON'T EVEN GET SO SEE THAT we just know they did because someone was like "hey man do you glitter a bit?" and Richard is like "yeah, an ex did that" and that's fucking it!?

Then it focuses on their biggest revenge plan: Abbie getting it on with Richard's boss to get invited to the Christmas party Richard never took her to because he was too embarrassed to be seen with her.

Which is already not the most flawless plan if you think about it, but as we already established: Abbie is not the most stable woman.

But that brings me to the next male creature in the book: Damien.
I've seen so many people gush about how perfect he is and I have to agree, He really is perfect

... and that is why hate him.

He always says exactly the right thing at the right time, immediately drops everything to be with Abbie and grants her every single one of her wishes (even the once she didn't know she had. Natrually.)
Damien is also a fancy lawyer but OF COURSE only takes on clients who are poor or abused and have absolutely no money so that he can win for them and ✨ justice ✨ and so that he can pay his clients rent for the next 3 months without expecting anything in return and is overall so perfect that he barely seems human.

Like literally barely human, as he doesn't seem to have a real personality.

(Unless coming up with terrible pet names is a personality trait, duh)

He also basically invites her ON THEIR FIRST DATE to the Christmas party. Which is totally something a real human would do, taking a complete stranger who might or might not turn out to be a fucking psychopath to your most important work event of the year.
Sure, that totally sounds like a good idea.

If you want to tell me how wrong I am about this book, please note that I only read 60% of it until my sister basically forced me to dnf it after I raged about how fucking awful it is for the 1283x time.
Have a nice day.

After Abbie is broken up with by her total asshat ex on Halloween, she hatches a plan. Get back at her ex by fucking his boss. But that plan goes out with window because Damien is the perfect man. He’s supportive, caring, thoughtful, and can dirty talk like no other. I absolutely loved this one.

Because the nature of the plot, there was miscommunication throughout. Abbie tried to tell Damien about her plan multiple times and he kept being like “tell me later,” which annoyed me. But the FINALE. THE LOVE CONFESSIONS. They made up for it. Also for my “why does every romance novel need to have babies in the epilogue 🙄” girlies you’re gonna be really happy with this one.

Okay, I was in between 1 and 2 stars for this. Straight to the point, this was not for me. The plot didn't have anything interesting to offer, everything felt like a random filler, except for the main story of revenge for crappy ex.

Even so, I was hoping to love this book because I'm fine with a simple plot IF the characters, dialogue and spicy times are great. But that wasn't the case.

Well, Damien was definitely dreamy. The perfect guy (no, seriously, he had *zero* faults to his character). Despite dating many women who apparently look just like Abigail, he falls for her immediately after one date and good sexy times.

Abigail.. I wanted to like her and I'm happy Damien treated her well but the entire book, i was cringing. so. damn. painfully.

Hear this, I shit you not:

"A woman should never make the call after a first date. She waits so as not to sound desperate," I said near instantly and then regretted it almost instantly because it sounded like a bitchy thing.

🤡

Her self-esteem was lower than the flooor and everything was about how both Richard and then Damien were important rich lawyer men and she was nothing. It annoyed me that Damien was tasked with uncovering her major (majormajor) issues with self-esteem and self-respect.

There were a hundred instances of something like this:

[ A high-powered man like Damien wouldn't take a train, much less on someone else's schedule. I should have thought of that. ]

Gee, who'd take the train, what a peasant 🙉
(I mean, of course they drove in the end lol. )

[ The reality is when you're dating busy, high-profile men, you should be happy when they take any portion of their time out to be with you. It's something I had taught myself to understand, and the few times I had conversations with the wives of Richard's equally important and wealthy friends, they echoed the sentiment. When time is money, any spent on you should be an honor. ]

☠️🙂

Then there's the super casual mentioning of sexual harassment:

[ "I'm just glad she's not focused on me," Hunter said under his breath, and I scoffed a laugh, because he wasn't wrong - Maggie loves to hit on my brother-in-law, trying to make him as uncomfortable as possible. *cue total change of topic]

Funny how it wouldn't sound the same if it was a sister-in-law and a creepy uncle or whoever that Maggie was (a part of the fam, apparently). Just gross, and, just no.

☠️☠️☠️

Okay, but there's more.

While I see others loving the sex scenes, I thought it was a bit bland with the back-arching whimpering - i believe the word 'whining' was actually used - and the 'no, you WILL come from my cock alone'! attitude (srsly, Damien dude, it's possible for that to not be possible for a woman no matter how dominatingly you demand it lmao. you should know better).

Also, that 'you dirty whore' was a surprise, as I thought this isn't casual sex lingo? 👀 I mean, to each their own but it just came out of nowhere. I get the sex was supposed to be filthy and your girl enjoys some of that like any other lady but some things were just off.

Didn't like the final scene but that's a pet peeve of mine.

I get I shouldn't overthink a simple fantasy holiday love story but it was just not believable enough to even get me to immerse myself in the story. Not only that, but it had major issues.

Or maybe I'm just not into the rich guy saving poor girl with no self-esteem plot line. It's not charming for me.
I saw this author has another book out with a nanny and a wealthy businessman love story (this fmc's sister probs). Looks like she's into a big power dynamic difference. Meh. Am I supposed to swoon if she gets the rich guy in the end who - yayyy - treats her as an equal human being?

This was just a disappointment and I'm done now, my soul is free from this book and when i wake up tomorrow, i will have forgotten i ever read it.

After forcing myself to re-read those 'cringe highlights', 1 star.
