I reread this one the other day and upped my rating. Stacy Johnson is very down to earth, offers great advice on taking control of your finances, and more importantly, he writes lightly, but philosophically about what life is all about. He discourages the idea that budgeting is "going without" and rather encourages you to list the things in life that really make you happy, then cut out the rest that people are trying to sell you. It's quality advice.
Life or Debt: A One-Week Plan for a Lifetime of Financial Freedom by Stacy Johnson
This book was okay, most of the advice is stuff I've read in other books. The Debt Destroyer method is a good one to review now and then though. I found the book in a box of old stuff I was going through and decided to look through it.
Much of the book is sorely out of date since Life or Debit was written in 2002. So many things have changed since then that the advice contained isn't relevant anymore. I wonder if SJ has updated this book since the 2008 meltdown? Stacy Johnson's website, www.moneytalksnews.com, offers up-to-date and helpful articles on every kind of financial topic you can think of. And he often responds to comments left on articles.
It is a good book for anyone that wants to start taking control of their financial life and debt. After all, who wants to be controlled by the things they own and not able to do what they choose to do rather than what they have to do? I wonder if he ever made it to sailing?
