A perfect, sleepy town is the perfect, sleepy home for all of its happy, sleepy inhabitants. all but one, who feels like something is off. The misfit longs for an escape, and a chance encounter with a librarian with a Hell of a secret makes life a whole lot stranger, a whole lot more interesting, and a whole lot more intense. Horns In The Library aims to introduce the reader to paranormal concepts in a way you've never seen them before, and then proceeds to put the Horn back in Horny. Things heat up quickly and slow down only to give the characters time to breathe and explore their feelings. Underneath the succubi, the horns and the tails is an exploration of queer relationships and identity which are treated with respect and a playful sense of humor.
You know that feeling when you're a lonely young woman stuck in the wrong body who finds escape in the fantasy section of the local library? And the hot librarian sees you--really sees you--and with a kiss, she turns you into a beautiful sexy red demon woman with wings and a tail and really sensitive horns?
Here you have the premise of this horny trans sapphic book, all of which I expected.
What I did not expect, but which I really should have, given how much smutty trans romance I read, is how emotionally touching the book would be. Body transformation is a common theme in such stories, where someone born in the wrong body is magically transformed into the right one. There are other fun tropes and twists, which I won't spoil, but the trans themes are well done, the perfect mix of playful and thoughtful. Maxima does an amazing job showing the effect of the transformation on the protagonist, and the relationship that forms with the sexy librarian (and let's be honest, who doesn't love those?) is delightfully dom/sub switchy and just horny enough without going into full-on erotica territory. There's a lot of delicious teasing, and the payoff is volcanically hot and explosive.
