Mark Crilley is an American comic book creator and children's book author/illustrator. He is the creator of Miki Falls, Akiko, and Brody's Ghost. He is also noted for his instructional videos for drawing in the manga-style. Crilley distributes drawing advice to artists via YouTube videos and his DeviantArt account. In August 2010, he starred in some how to draw videos for Funimation on demand. Mark Crilley's wife is Miki Crilley who he named Miki Falls after. The two have a daughter, Mio, and a son, Matthew.

It was good, a quick read once you sit down with it! Not world changing, but sweet. Glad to see another girl character in this one.

This kids book has a classic episodic feeling. The story was read without reading book one. There is context missing but most of the blanks were filled in. And, at the end of the book, the epic story hasn't actually moved very far.
That said, it was a fun quick read that late elementary kids will probably enjoy.

I have looked forward to picking up the second book in this series...and I wasn't disappointed with Akiko in the Sprubly Islands. Akiko is a perfect character for children to read about. Never one to be a leader back in her hometown on Earth, she is thrust into the role of leading the rescue of a young prince.

I quite enjoy seeing her make decisions and become a leader. The band of misfits she travels with are fun and seem to find themselves in all kinds of trouble everywhere they go. But they compliment each other well, and they are able to escape unharmed from all their adventures.

Mark Crilley has done a wonderful job in creating characters that are easy for a younger audience to relate to. The wondrous journey that he has created will leave the reading craving for more . . . and more. I wonder what will happen when this series continues in Akiko and the Great Wall of Trudd?

What was funny about this book was how the Sprubbly Island inhabitants are humans, but they are only 3 inches tall. Akiko is laying down, so they aren't scared of her. The admiral tells her to stand up, and 2 groups of soldiers run away. Then she has to duck to get into Queen Pwip's palace. Akiko, Spuckler and the others run into a meteor shower, that's why the ship crashed on the Sprubbly Islands. So they need directions from the Sprubly Islanders. Queen Pwip has an amazing sense of direction.

This book is about Akiko who is traveling with her space friends who have to travel to save the prince. However when a storm hits their ship they end up swimming to the shore of the sprubly islands. There, they await the help of the evil queen. However there is something strange about the inhibitants of the island.
I thought this book was very boring, I wouldn't read it unless you have a lower reading level. It wasn't suspensful and part of a trilogy that I didn't want to keep reading.

I didn't read the first few chapters but from where I started Akiko and her friends where trapped inside a giant sea creature. And then after they got out her friends got captured. and a miny man came and captured her and took her to a palace. Will the prince be here? Will they get out? Where are her friends? read this book and find out.

"Akiko in the Sprubly Islands", while not as good as "Akiko on the Planet Smoo", is still a fun and exciting story. It reminds me strongly of "Gulliver's Travels" with its adventures at sea, giant monsters, and the Lilliputian-like people. A great book for young girls who love sci-fi.

I read this story because I was curious about what is popular with pre-teens/teens. The story is imaginative and well written. It is sprinkled with tidbits of wisdom nicely worked into the tale. I enjoyed reading it.
